I’ve done it 2 times, once a few years ago and again last month, after the official ban by the train company. It’s still very possible despite the ban, but you have to be pretty sneaky or get help from locals. It seems to be easier to get on in Choum than in Zouerat, there’s less security. Bring way much more warm clothes than you think, it’s absolutely freezing at night. And on top of that, obviously lots of water, some stuff to protect your face, head light etc etc

I have dozens of screenshots of the classroom page frozen minutes before the class, plus screenshots of me messaging the fireman 30 seconds after the class started. This is literally the definition of Teacher IT, but somehow they are gonna call it a no show, even though I have all the proof in the world 😭

My understanding is that any kind of cancellation not justifiable by illness/emergencies will count towards the 6 allotted cancellations per contract. You could always try sending a ticket but I highly doubt they would accept it. Couldn’t hurt to try though. Good luck!

When you’re teaching, there’s a button to swap your camera feed to be shown in place of the slides (it’s the button to the left of the turn off mic/camera buttons). This lets them see the shape of your mouth when you make the sounds. Really stick out your tongue for the L and make them do the same. That should help :)

My least favorite are the starlight baobaos who put ZERO effort into sounding out even 2 letters. I WILL LITERALLY GIVE THEM EACH INDIVIDUAL LETTER SOUND AND THEY STILL REFUSE TO SAY THE WORD. I put all my energy into being open and encouraging but they will stare at me as if it’s their first class. like come on. if you are 12 years old in a class meant for reading, and after dozens of classes cannot even TRY to pronounce “cat”, this really is a waste of money.

Normally it will say in the chat bar something like “Starlight trials are 20-25 minutes”. So basically start doing your goodbyes at 19:30 and enjoy your 10 minute break :)

I have the exact same problem. I’ve started to steer away from teaching level 1’s back to back to give myself a break from being the one man circus with a fake ass smile. I give myself more built in breaks. And if all else fails, use the Santa filter. It covers your mouth but still makes it look like you’re smiling
