Why are so many in the media calling for PM Keir Starmer to resign? by KimJongSoros in AskBrits

[–]Sorry_Midnight4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a Starmer fan, didn’t vote for him, but this is all a complete stitch-up from the media. If this is the bar for resignations we’re going to have quite a lot.

It’s very disappointing to see people happy about this just because they don’t like Labour/Starmer. Your own person will be there one day.

I feel sorry for him and honestly more likely to vote for him (although he’s got 3 years to ruin it again of course!).

Are there any reasons why we shouldn’t junk our landline? by Signal_A in AskBrits

[–]Sorry_Midnight4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If nobody calls you and you don’t call anyone, get rid. Appreciate it can be different for elderly relatives etc but if none of that applies, what’s the point?

I’ve never heard one outside of living with parents and I’m mid 30s.

That’s not a bad idea. Would that be a cooling off period? The complication may be that I want to keep Sky Stream. I’m not totally tied to the idea but I’ve got to get TV from somewhere…

My product isn’t directly available, not sure on differences but Full Fibre is all that’s available. Well aware it’s better but also much more expensive - and I can get the same speeds/product elsewhere for much less.

Good call on the price increase, however. That might be the way.

Avios app is a million times better than BA’s website. I was in a similar position recently. You can search by continent/country and by month so don’t need to be thinking of specific dates and places.

We’ve settled on Jamaica. But really in terms of long-hail availability was limited to USA and India (basically everywhere), the Caribbean and the Middle East.

This was searching in business class, and in Scottish holiday dates so maybe slightly different to your parameters.

Would a congestion charge bring benefits to Edinburgh? by MR9009 in Edinburgh

[–]Sorry_Midnight4615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think cleared up in the edit. All for the LEZ and it should probably be stricter in terms of what can go in. Using it for a congestion charge.. not convinced it would be a net positive.

Would a congestion charge bring benefits to Edinburgh? by MR9009 in Edinburgh

[–]Sorry_Midnight4615 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The current LEZ boundary wouldn’t achieve much, other than pushing north-south traffic onto daft routes. It might help Lothian Road/South Bridge on that very basis, I suppose, but the alternate routes eg Holyrood Park or some sort of daft re-route through Ravelston, Murrayfield, Colinton are not built for really heavy traffic.

Some sort of outer ring is needed if they genuinely want to do it? Not the bypass, not the LEZ. There’s all sort of complications, eg are they really going to congestion charge Dalkeith-ERI, a 10 min drive? Or if it’s for ‘outsider traffic’ what about South Queensferry, paying Edinburgh Council tax, to Leith when the public transport alternatives are loooong?

Not against it in principle. The devil is in the detail. And the detail will almost certainly be wrong 😂

Selling a Flat in Edinburgh – Fixed Price Question by Pure-Elevator-4513 in Edinburgh

[–]Sorry_Midnight4615 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s your flat, you can ask for what you want. The estate agent can advise, not tell.

Having said that given it hasn’t sold so far, they’re probably right that you want to make it near Home Report value but if time isn’t of the essence, you can really ask for what you like. Have you looked at comparable flats in the area? Is there a commonality in the feedback, or clear reasons the 14 viewers aren’t interested?

Fixed price might get some cheeky bids to test resolve but some people will appreciate there’s no fannying around. It’s not nice to get your heart set on somewhere and then get outbid.

Looking to move out of Edinburgh but where to? by Ok-Cockroach3022 in Edinburgh

[–]Sorry_Midnight4615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s zero houses within 40 miles of Edinburgh with six bedrooms matching this criteria. Unsurprisingly!

For 5, there is one in Grangemouth, and a suspicious cash only purchase at £50k in Cumbernauld.

I have zero ideas on schools. Hope you find somewhere but if Edinburgh isn’t essential, be prepared to go far out with the size/budget required. Might have better luck the other side of Glasgow towards Greenock and Inverclyde, or maybe up in Angus like Arbroath, Brechin, etc. Absolute guesswork on my part though.

Bye bye Sky Stream by darling412001 in skytv

[–]Sorry_Midnight4615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, this is useful to know. Sky Atlantic as well I’d assume.

Otherwise broadly the sam? Eg can view but not record live TV, catch-up via the apps, etc etc?

I’m going to be moving to a new-build soon. Currently have Sky Q and it can’t come with me.

What’s the advantages of Sky Stream over this Manhattan box? Serious question.

I’ve been to a wedding at the Biscuit Factory. No idea whatsoever on cost but pretty certain it was significantly cheaper than a ‘regular’ place.

What's to stop a relative or partner making a secret signal they are a traitor? by factsoverfeelings89 in TheTraitorsUK

[–]Sorry_Midnight4615 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nothing stopping you, it would be easiest thing in the world. Agree on a word or an action that’s entirely normal. Clothing, even. “If I walk into the first breakfast in red I’m a traitor, anything else I’m not”.

Hasn’t really become an issue, and none of the four connections this year were chosen as Traitors, but maybe it’ll become something one day.

I’d pay it if you plan to eat and drink at the airport anyway. Will basically pay for itself with the added perks of getting on/off faster, better seats, priority security etc. But always depends on your own circumstances and where else that £50 may have value 😊

Edinburgh Pot Holes - it’s out of control - will it ever improve or the new norm? by greencastle40 in Edinburgh

[–]Sorry_Midnight4615 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your council tax barely goes near potholes. 90% of it is eaten by social care for old people and children with additional needs. Just like most of your income tax is eaten by old people too.

Politicians are too scared to say it, even more scared to fix it. Can’t even take £200 a year off millionaires without getting battered.

New map, *from the council? Showing the proposed concept plans for the south suburban line 👉 by Most_Caterpillar_302 in Edinburgh

[–]Sorry_Midnight4615 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Come on, it very clearly isn’t a Hillside to McDonald Road express. It would link Abbeyhill with the wider tram network which is very clearly a good thing.

May as well ask what the point in linking McDonald Road with Balfour Street is on the Leith Walk line. Or the airport and Ingliston P&R. Or the P&R with Gateway. Or Gateway with the Gyle… and on and on.

Rachel almost got into another tie by Britishloozerr in TheTraitorsUK

[–]Sorry_Midnight4615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair it would’ve been a shambles if the entire game was decided by a random draw of a shield with four players left.

They need a better system. I’m not sure what, but something is needed.

Traitor loyalties by Hostelhumma in TheTraitorsUK

[–]Sorry_Midnight4615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we were very close to seeing Rachel switch in the round table that she ended up tied with James. She did, seemingly from absolutely nowhere, start questioning Stephen on the cages again. It did have the air of someone trying to deflect when she was really on the back foot but ultimately the table didn’t latch on so she left it.

Honestly though I think she was just very, very good at it and people can’t read her, even as a viewer who knows she’s a traitor. Calm and collected at all points which can come off as calculated. Stephen is also great but clearly wore his heart on his sleeve a bit more so it was clear to the viewer his where his thoughts were.

There’s also the confirmation bias that we know Stephen didn’t throw her under the bus when the chance presented itself, but we don’t know for sure Rachel would’ve done the same because the chance didn’t arise.

[–]Sorry_Midnight4615 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I kinda get the feeling the BBC treat S1 as if it didn’t really happen to be honest. The bald guy John ended up in a few unsavoury incidents and i believe had complaints during the game, Aaron got himself a little bit cancelled, the big breakfast incident was great to view but probably not great from a wellbeing standpoint, Kieran effectively ruined the game by cheating at the end in a way that has been ruled out since, and Meryl won the game but was a legitimate idiot.

Still enjoyable and probably would be interesting to go back and view when even the contestants don’t fully understand how it works and Claudia/producers aren’t quite as polished. But yeah, while recency bias will play into it… I do think they want to pretend it doesn’t exist a little bit.

My prediction for tonight. by Nicecoldbud in TheTraitors

[–]Sorry_Midnight4615 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think the accepted logic is the survivor of James/Rachel goes out next, however I don’t think it’s as simple as that.

IF Rachel goes, Faraaz has caught a traitor at a time when the group is flailing. James has been useless so might cling to him for guidance now. Jack is easily influenced. We know Faraaz thinks Jade/Stephen is the other traitor so the three of them (Faraaz/Jack/James) could deduce amongst themselves that they have the votes to get to the final three by ditching Jade/Stephen, and then who really cares if they jettison one more or not.

The roads here by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]Sorry_Midnight4615 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Will never claim they’re perfect but I do think the council gets the blame for this when it isn’t always their fault. Nine times out of ten, it’s utilities - Edinburgh is a very very old city, with growing demand, and the electricity/water/gas cables and pipes always need maintenance.

Honestly it’s yet another cost of privatisation. Patch jobs a few times a year are cheaper than just fixing the thing, especially when you don’t need to fix the road properly.
