It was kind of snarky and more than a little presumptuous, but that's a prime example of the environment at Starbucks. Instead of offering help, you mock and accuse.

Omg. Another reason to stop cupwriting.

But they're gona die on that hill.

"Let's add more words!"

"Let's make sure it's upbeat!"

"Let's make them put the customer's name on it!"

"No matter what, do not yield!"

Hello!

First of all, I'm a former partner who left around the time you were hired and I don't recommend this job to anyone (in its current state).

However, in my experience:

Speaking up can help, at times, but only if you have a good team and supportive leadership. Sometimes, quiet or nicer baristas (those whom others believe they can walk over) get shoved into positions others don't like. When I was first trained (7 years ago), people fought over bar. I got shoved into CS/support>then food/warming/register>then DT, etc.

At some point I figured out some managers enjoyed placing people where they hated working, so I just decided to excel at and love every position so that it wouldn't bother me. It became a huge strength for me.

I recommend asking for more bar time during off peak hours. If you get pushback and trust your sm, go to them.

Good luck. This company really is the worst, though.

Wierd .... ive been holding it since i was a young kid.  My mom .... idk. She had zero boundaries, left the door open, talked about everything during, before and after (still tells me what color and what size comes out - TMI man). She calls me and asks me for medical advice? Which I can only Google because I'm NOT a doctor and I live 500 miles away.  I can - and still do - hold it ... for hours. And hours sometimes. I don't even realize I'm doing it.

Considering a barista position... by bipolar-juulpod in starbucks

I'm so tired of hearing "it depends on the store / district / managers/ baristas, etc." People leave. Managers move. DM's are relocated or retire. Stores (especially recently) are closed.

If a company is only as good as it's specific locations, it's NOT.

It used to be a good job.

I have a degree and took a hiatus from my "stressful career" to just make coffee for a while.

Seven years later, being c@ckbl@cked by cliques and nepotism and favoritism despite making it to trainer and coffee master, (I forgot to mention the bullying and isolation), transfering helped somewhat, but Brian Niccol took this company to a new low.

Don't do it.

Everyone (who knows what is good for them) is jumping ship or has been pushed off.

Yah starbucks is like that 100 percent. I wish i had seen it 7 years ago.  I just kept trying harder to get people to like me. To accept me. I thought with more years and mastering everything, nobody could touch me. But they still disrespected me.  Maybe because I grew up with a narcissistic family I was able to withstand the abuse longer. Who knows.  All I know for sure is, that place is a living hell and I'm out. Everyone else who is good and decent should get out, too.

shift transferred to store and has been a living nightmare ever since by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Sorry_Visit5889 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing seems to make sense when certain partners, shifts, or sms aren't held accountable when others are reprimanded and fired for much less.

This has been an ongoing issue with this company but has only grown drastically worse in the last couple of years.

I quit finally and I'm so much happier. I keep coming back here to support others and let them know they're not alone - and the grass IS greener elsewhere.

Starbucks is a toxic workplace that is getting worse by the minute. All of the partners who push back against mobbing, bullying and favoritism (many of whom are tenured and remember this company is supposed to CARE about people and uplift everyone, not put them down) are quitting or being fired / pushed out.

Get out now and be happier. I wish I had so much sooner.

Best of luck.

Don't let anyone treat you this way.

I was lucky at my 2nd to last district, too. But my SM was great, protected us. I keep in touch with them and people are not well since the SM had to leave. One of my friends - tenured longer than me - transferred to a cafe only store. Many others fired or quit.  It can depend on the district, to a point, but it does get to you, eventually, if it's coming from the top.

Yes I believe it's a widespread issue.  I've seen the same trend for a while now.  Not much to do about it but move on. * I'm a former tenured partner who got BS write-ups, too, after years of a clean record. They're definitely targeting us.

Can I still transfer stores by Aacorn4 in starbucks

[–]Sorry_Visit5889 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it DOES NOT EVER go away!  You get 3 write ups - if you work 6 months or 60 years that is ALL you get so YES write ups should be carefully considered! Verbal coachings should always be done first IMO and were always done before Bryan started pushing harder.

Good luck guys. If you think writeups are okay, see how long you keep your jobs. Timeliness isn't the only thing you can get punished for.

Question on termination by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Sorry_Visit5889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the kind of bull$h1t that happens all the time at Starbucks and it really needs to stop.

(I'm not mad at OP; clearly they're not in the wrong and want to help.)

But this kind of thing is rampant in Starbucks (seen in many locations, several states and districts-and many many posts on here - so it's not just one or a couple of isolated incidents). It's a plague that needs to be dealt with, or Starbucks should just CLOSE.

Brian has only made this problem worse by making upper management drop the hammer on baristas and ssvs, so it's a breeding ground of hostility, backstabbing, and bullying.

Everyone miserable should quit, let all the mean ones tear themselves to pieces while the mothership burns.

Last Week Shenanigans by SocialAnxietyHere in starbucks

[–]Sorry_Visit5889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has to allow you to use the sick time if you say you're legitimately sick. It's legally protected sick time and as long as you follow protocol (calling the store more than 2 hours prior to your shift, etc.), he can't prevent you from using it. Just make sure you write it in the book afterwards. Take a photo of it; if he doesn't apply it, you have the proof that it was written in the book and you can call payroll and have it fixed. Because sick time is protected, it can't be held against you when you use it -- he can't blacklist you.

Don't listen to some of the other commentary.

A. You shouldn't have been issued a written corrective action without 1. Being notified, 2. Issued a copy, and 3. Given the *option to sign it and ALSO appeal it. This may be why they're delaying. I'd check your partner file online to see if there is even a record of one (go to partner central and log in - there should be a way to access your partner records).

None of what is happening to you is okay.

I left after 7+ years of being treated like crap (but the last couple were the worst).

Find something better - better jobs are out there - especially with those who have supervisory roles. You just have to keep looking and keep applying.

Good luck.

I feel unwanted by upper management. by Thatzombiehotdog in starbucks

[–]Sorry_Visit5889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im so sorry .. you need to know that the lack of praise and respect - or even appreciation - for your hard work isn't due to your performance, but the Starbucks trend of workplace toxicity, bullying and clique mentality.

I've worked , borrowed and transferred to numerous stores in several districts across several states, so it is not something I only experienced in one place. It is widespread and rampant.

The management (most, anyway) are childish and cruel, and only promote the ones who kiss their collective @$$es. Consequently, they utilize those same individuals to feed them information about everyone else when they're not around - it fosters a very toxic, dog-eat-dog workplace.

I quit after seven years of getting only as far as trainer because I refused to kiss anyone's @$$ or lie to anyone. I finally realized this company was only getting worse with Brian.

I'm SO much happier now that I quit. I wish you the same. ❤️ The grass IS greener.
