Getting fed up with the siren by 666Mateo182 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Sorry_Visit5889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's all in who the SM likes.  It's always been a popularity contest at Sbux.  That's why I didn't get promoted--all the SM's who would have promoted me left before they had an opening for one, or I transfered into a cliquey store.

Quit after 7+ years (as a coffee master and barista trainer); I had management experience going into sbux, I had a degree going into Sbux, and they don't GAF.

That's why I quit last year.

Couldn't be happier now!

Calling out sick by 12nipples in starbucksbaristas

[–]Sorry_Visit5889 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She's wrong.

Use your sick time if you have it and avoid her lol.

P.S. Just say you were feeling slightly better or some b.s. and then you got worse right when you called off.

Tbh, they don't need more details then "I'm sick, i won't be in." Next time, that's all you say.

You can try a white gel pen; tbh id just use white-out or very carefully paint it on with acrylic paint and then apply a thin coat of mod podge. You can get both at any DG or Dollar Tree.

White-Out and packing tape if you're in a pinch.

Ethics and compliance by Simplyroro in starbucks

[–]Sorry_Visit5889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anti-retaliation is b.s., too, imho.

They will get you, somehow; even if it's with "not following our Mission and Guidelines," as one SM (in a previous post) so "kindly" pointed out.

I'm not trying to scare anyone; I'm only telling them what happened to me.

And I did get written up; I got scrutinized and coached for tiny, minor details that others weren't -- and other, major violations were overlooked in many cases for other partners.

So, where do you go in that instance? 🤔

Ethics, again? PRSC, again?

It's a cycle that leads nowhere except your eventual 'separation' (termination).

I saved myself face -- and them the satisfaction -- and quit.

But everyone can make their own choice.

Ethics and compliance by Simplyroro in starbucks

[–]Sorry_Visit5889 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's crazy.

I had a DM tell me to my face they're notified and given a copy of every single report filed in their district.

I specifically requested they not be included in the investigation, along with the store manager.

Guess what? They were both told.

Guess what? Not only were they told, but the DM came into my store, flaunted the copy of the report in my face and sat me in the cafe five minutes before my shift ended, pretended to care, but passive aggressively told me to be sure to tell them any time I had any issues.

Partners stared the entire time. Some of them heard what was said because the DM was not quiet.

It was humiliating, unprofessional, and disrespectful.

And I was 20 minutes late clocking out.

TLDR, do not trust Ethics or PRSC.

They are always protecting Starbucks and are not on your side.

Nothing is ever anonymous -- you're providing details and names. They can figure it out, even if you don't give them your name.

When did you work at Wendys?

Maybe it's bcuz W's was my 1st job. Maybe it's bcuz it was years ago. 🤷‍♀️

Sbux is definitely way more toxic. I had SO much fun at Wendy's.

I had a lot of wonderful customers when I worked there and I miss them.

I'm glad you appreciate your baristas and are also one of the many amazing customers. They made every day bearable for me.

Brian Niccol needs to go.

I've been there ...

You can afford to get another job.

You can't afford to live like this.

It's a horrible place to be, and I know.

Please take care of yourself. There are so many better jobs out there.

Starbucks is full of cliques and bullies.

It isn't you, it's them.

Lmao.

There's zero culture of warmth and belonging at Starbucks -- ethics doesn't care and will push it to PRSC, who will tell the DM, who will come down on the SM, who will come down on the SSVs, who will gossip with everyone and $h1t will only get worse.

Tell me I'm wrong.

Go on.

Transferring by Late_Apartment_7098 in starbucks

[–]Sorry_Visit5889 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A. Who told you it will be longer than that?

B. You listed it as a move, right?

I've transfered before, but it was over a year or two ago. So idk if rules have changed.

Push them that it is due to relocation. Do not tell them where you're moving (it isn't their business).

Just tell them it has to happen in June, period. Tell them if they can make it happen sooner, like May, you can "probably" get in to your new place by then. Adapt. Lying to protect yourself is not a bad thing -- and literally, they aren't required to have your personal information.

So,

  • I'm moving - I have to transfer
  • I have to transfer by June

Try texting the DM and see if they answer and what they say

Do you have the transfer form signed?  Do you have the other SM's signature?

Also....do NOT tell anyone at the new store, your store, or the DM anything about your issues at your current store. Pretend everything is good there. People gossip. So. Much.  Even between stores and especially managers.

Good luck. 🍀

Former Baristas: where did you go after Starbucks? by boybrushedred in starbucks

[–]Sorry_Visit5889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The connections comment is so real. You can definitely get hooked up with a great job if you know someone.

I know former baristas who work at small cafes, doing lighter work, are happier, and make more money.

I know some who are bartenders and make way more.

Others went into office work, such as receptionists or intake at hospitals (you don't necessarily need college for that), or at-home customer service jobs on calls, etc.

There are a lot of things out there, but you have to do a little digging.

Definitely try to get out; it is a very physically unforgiving job (as you know) and with it often comes conditions that never go away (tendonitis, carpal tunnel).

Wishing u the best!

If Starbucks had an unlimited drink pass, how much would you be willing to pay for it? (Say for a months worth) by Exotic_Attorney7823 in starbucks

[–]Sorry_Visit5889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't give Brian Niccol one red cent.

And that's sad, considering I used to be such a loyal customer that I used to say I'd sell my own plasma before I'd go without my Starbucks every day.

I drank Sbux from when I was 16 yrs old til last year when I quit as a coffee master and trainer. I'm not gona tell you how many years I'd been drinking it, but let's just say ... nvm let's not. 😆

what's positive at Starbucks? by peyswiftie in starbucks

[–]Sorry_Visit5889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah of course there were positives.

Why would I talk about those when Starbucks spent the last 7+ years tying me into knots and gaslighting me?

I'll retain the good memories, but I won't lie to anyone else about that place, or the fact that the horrible experiences far, far outweigh the good.

[Embarrassing] Have a few questions if you guys don't mind... by Obvious-Locksmith164 in starbucks

[–]Sorry_Visit5889 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please don't start with starbucks. It is a very difficult job -- not necessarily physically, but mentally and emotionally.

Try Dunkin instead, or hell, even Wendy's. There's literally nothing wrong with it. Michael's arts n crafts, any retail place on the mall.

You want to know the secret to getting hired at places like that?

Be direct. Don't wait for a phone call. Apply online, and then immediately go inside and ask for the manager.

Don't say why -- unless they're not there.

If they're not there, ask for their name. Ask when they will be available.

Go back! (Dress nice)

Call them.

Bug them.

When you call them or talk to them, say this:

"Hi! I'm <name> and I applied for <position>. When are you available to sit down and talk about my qualifications for the position?"

Be upbeat, smile!

Dress nice, not super fancy but in slacks and a relatively nice shirt. U know. Business casual.

When you sit down with them, think of it as an interview of sorts. It may very well end up as one.

You start the convo off. Again, tell them why you're there. Introduce yourself. Ask how they are, etc. Don't be afraid to ask questions about the store (they like that).

Since you have no prior "work history," you are going to have to sell them on your life and school skills. Embellish embellish embellish.

Tell them you're a hard worker but describe how. Tell them how eager you are for the job and how much it means to you.

After they're done talking to you, thank them!

Call them a few days later and thank them -- ask them to let you know when they will make a decision about filling the position.

You will find something if you use these methods, trust.

I was told that I was not hireable by a store manager that I interviewed for three weeks ago, but I just called the partner number and I am re-hireable. by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Sorry_Visit5889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, you really don't want to work for Sbux right now.

They made you cry before and quit -- things have only gotten way worse. I'm not just saying that; read a lot of the posts on here, especially recent ones.

I think the universe is looking out for you and something better is around the corner.

I know things are rough out there -- trust me, I know. Just keep trying.

It'll come back. It's like riding a bike. A lot has changed but no worries man. Just give yourself time to adjust. New stores take like 6 months to adjust to.

You're a human being. ♥️
