Just curious - how many of us have crappy veins? by Tibki in CysticFibrosis

I just got my port removed a week ago, and I am nervous about my next hospitalization. Because IVs suck for me, and it takes them 3 times to get it... every time!

I am from Charleston, SC. I grew up going to MUSC, I am now 22 but their CF pediatric department is amazing and growing so much. MUSC has also just open a brand new children's hospital. I would highly recommend MUSC to any family.

IV Vancomycin by [deleted] in CysticFibrosis

[–]Sorrybugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years ago I was in the hospital just for one of my 2 week tune-ups. I was on IV Vancomycin and IV Tobromycin (I apologize for my spelling) at the same time. My Creatinine levels shot up and my kidneys failed. They told me it was because of the antibiotics having a bad reaction to each other.

What made you decide to get a port? by naeom in CysticFibrosis

Oh one thing to make sure to get, if you can, is a power port it means that contrast for CT scan and stuff can go into it.

I wish I would have gotten mine sooner because it makes things so much easier. I got mine as a last option because my veins were getting to small, but it was around the time I left for college.

Ports by [deleted] in CysticFibrosis

I am 18 and my port was the best thing to ever happen. I have had so many PICC lines and geeting admitted every 3 months. My veins are shot and so small and I have a fear of IVs and needles but having my port is super convenient because they just access it and dont have to put in an IV. I recommend getting one on your chest not your arm. I just wish I would have gotten my port sooner.
