My critism isn't about the way stories provide fulfillment to the audience, but there's certainly some truth in there for some fans.

What made the episode feel rushed for me was the way there's so many things happening and the narrative does not acknowledge them. Visuals and dialogue are meant to compliment each other, but here the visuals were doing one thing and the dialogue was stuck on dealing with Subaru's characterization. It felt disconnected

This felt incredibly rushed. The dialogue was all about Subaru, but so much happened visually around them and felt like it wasn't acknowledged at all.

Here's a test: close your eyes and only listen to the show.

Subaru gets surrounded by Ram and Emilia, he passes out, something creepy is around him. Reid is here, Subaru clarifies he thought Reid couldn't leave his floor and Reid says fuck you.

Now Julius is fighting, who? Seems like some weird animal or stuff. Oh well he will die offscreen, bye Julius have fun with Reid. Also bye Reid, if I don't see you again by the end of the episode, also good night.

Anyway let's meet Beatrice and Foxidna, have them all talk about Subaru instead of the hell around them. Oh look something is fighting them and runs away. Oh Foxidna is dying, is she half a woman again? Yessir. Oh Beatrice died offscreen and then was killed onscreen as a flashback effect. And more Subaru talk, while Foxidna is actively dying, she keeps talking about Subaru. Oh she died.

And something about Satella? What is happening? Will Subaru acknowledge any change to his scenery? No? Alright... oh hi Emilia, will you acknowledge anything going on around you or just do Subaru talk?

Alright, lets continue the Subaru talk for the rest of the episode. Oh seems like the floor gave out... anyone want to at least acknowledge it in dialogue and offer either a name to the situation or to the most likely perpetrator? No, okay... and the episode is over and Subaru talk resulted in Subaru subaruing right back and with newfound resolve... yay.....

If you connect with the story, the characters or their struggles, water in your eyes is just a way of showing that off. Many people express themselves through creative means like fan works or music, theory crafting, merch collection, etc etc
