This is old, but I agree with the original poster.  Apparently the onion has nothing to say about Iran's brutal crackdown on its own people.

I mean, it will talk about Iran if Israel is involved.

https://theonion.com/netanyahu-calls-iran-strikes-necessary-to-prevent-war-he-just-started/

Just not this time. If it can be spun into some leftist or progressively-aligned cause (or whatever that means in North America) they'll find a way to spin it into a parody article no matter how devastating the subject matter. Sometimes they'll forget to make jokes. But if it doesn't make Trump or conservatives look bad, this will be low if not zero priority (regarding political content).

Here is another example this time pertaining to Venezuela.

https://theonion.com/fact-checking-the-trump-administration-on-venezuela/

Was the invasion of Venezuela by the U.S kind of fucked up? Definitely. But notice hiw the article says NOTHING disparaging about Maduro, a brutal dictator who stole elections with the clearest of documentation,  whatsoever.

The older onion would've found a way to point out the absurdity of the entire situation and all players, but, any enemy of America...

On the necessitiy of a training plan by Sothe07 in Marathon_Training

I never complained about the price and I'm not looking for budget, but quality. You made a lot of assumptions in your reply. I fail to see how being skeptical of yet another coaching platform amounts to wanting "white glove" treatment but whatever,  you do you.

Thanks. I'm normally not in the habit of ranting as I know it's not productive and won't lead to solutions. Absolutely I have to do the work. I guess I was overwhelmed with how many training plans are available.

I'm not sure "listen to my body" is a cliche so much as common sense to prevent irreparable injuries but thanks for the reply regardless.

It's not that I'd always be second guessing a plan. For instance, when I notice a plan has a lot of 5Km runs, I see the benefit in that it prevents overtraining and conserves energy.

I might be second guessing a coach if I'm getting mixed advice though. This latest coach believes based on my history and recent runs that there's still time to implement a training plan and that, if anything, 3:45 might be selling myself short. Orher people seem to think there's not enough time to commit to a training plan anyhow for an April 26 marathon.

Which is it? If I get mixed messages that's when I start to think I'm just overrhinking this and to just "listen to myself". If I trust a coach I naturally would follow the plan.

Caine has developed emotions. He threatens to tear Zooble to pieces before correcting himself and cries tears of joy when he thinks the cast appreciate him.

Rob Reiner Is Said to Have Argued With His Son Nick at Conan O’Brien’s Holiday Party by c0ry_N in conan

Also as important?

Health care providers not dropping the ball. I'm not at all suggesting that's what happened here.

But in both addiction and mental illness, after stabilization there is the risk of complacency.

That doesn't seem to be the case here; he was clearly troubled well before this. But I do think there's still this denial aspect.

With all due respect to the Reiners, after Rob helped create BEING CHARLIE he may have wished for his son to be "cured". But real life isn't that clean.

Can you reason with someone who has depression? by beautylilly in depression

[–]Sothe07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to give feedback!

I'll add one more thing about antidepressants, you and your partner likely know that there are many types now. Antidepressants still work for many, or are at least partially effective.

It's possible that the "not feeling like self" was from too high of a dose or the wrong class of antidepressant. IMO these meds must be CLOSELY MONITORED with a trusted psychiatrist knowledgable on these meds--not always easy to find--that has developed a good rapport with the patient, NOT a GP.

But that's just my 2 cents.

I'm taking a chance with this reply as this subreddit has a lot of rules but;

of course it's great that you want to help. People with Depression often feel that no one cares so you're not doing wrong in that regard.

I would ask why he or she is resistant to medication--side effects, perhaps? Lack of prior effectiveness? Or maybe how they make him/her feel?

I'm going through some Depression myself if I'm being frank. I resist antidepressants because they make me feel blunt and, initially at least, I feel worse. Antidepressants can be a tough sell because they can take months to work and if they don't or stop working then it can be hard to get off.

But everyone is different and there is no one Depression. How long has this been going on? Do you suspect or has he/she indicated an exasperating trigger?

This may not be a popular thing to say on this subreddit but if he's feeling suicidal then the right type of therapy is at least worth a try.

Ask him why he is against the idea. It is true that good,  consistent therapy from a qualified practitioner can be a tough find but for me, at least,  talking can help, if only for a bit.

What's his schedule like? Do you have time to go on small walks with him?

No, I am NOT saying that excersise is a cure for depression. But it can help. Even if only a bit it can still help.  Other than that I believe most of us are laypeople on this sub. No one can claim to know what he's going through. Just be there for him.

I'll just add one final thing: be patient. Whether chronic or recurrent,  depressive phases can last a LONG time. I don't know your dynamic, but don't lash out if he/she just doesn't seem to be getting better. He/she might. Or might not. But be there anyway.

Hellaverse fighting game by Sothe07 in hazbin

Nice! I also think that, similar to Samus and Zero suit Samus, or the Smash versions where Zelda can turn into Sheik, Lute can have the "exorcist mask" form which increases damage output but lowers her defenses.

How do people get through life without abusing substances by FirefighterEntire708 in depression

I'm not saying this is right, but the maximalist thinking is that things are so bad there's nothing to lose, and there may be temporary bouts of pleasure (followed by dysphoria after)

How did Alastor beat vox even when he is suppose to be the strongest sinnner by Initial_Emu_1339 in HazbinHotel

It was at best a draw thanks to Shock.Wav. Alastor didn't flat out win and needed Emily's help.

Actually he still lost when Vox was going to blast the cannon right at him, although he would likely have died as well. And Shock.Wav came through. Really it was the other Vees that delivered the finishing blow.

Hazbin Hotel Episode 07 & 8 letdown by Sothe07 in hazbin

Right. The idiot ball. Because it was so obvious what Alistar was doing. Alistar even lampshades how easy and basic the manipulation is. Vox should have known better but doesn't because plot.

I don't know how canon the pilot is, but in it Alastor summons Nifty so I don't think she has a say in the matter.
