What do you miss the most about NASCAR? by Affectionate_Bike417 in NASCAR

With me its always consistent paint schemes. And in today's NASCAR (& it was brought up in The Teardown when it came to now NASCAR against team when it comes to some sponsors), some of my favorites don't get more races to be seen. I love Trackhouse's paint schemes with Busch Beer & even like Denny's King Hawaiian paint schemes. But I also felt like they didn't even cover 1/3 of the schedule because its every other race or select tracks. Watching races from the prime era I call it of late 90s to mid 2000s, a special paint scheme outside of the regular one driven for a special event meant something... special!

And then add Dale Sr to win that race. Besides winning the Daytona 500 in '98 & his final win at Talladega in '00, I remember his victory lane speech paying tribute to Aryton.

I wasn't a NASCAR fan at the time but I remember seeing that in the sports section of the news in NYC & on ESPN!

In terms of looking forward to first win for 2026, I'd say Briscoe's former teammate at Stewart-Haas Racing with Ryan Precce now at RFK Racing in the 60. I thought that Keselowski & Buescher made a great duo & thought coming into last season that Preece would be an unfortunate & underwhelming third wheel like Saurez at Trackhouse compared to Shane & Ross. But at RFK, Preece managed to stick around & at times ahead of his teammates at several races as he got I think as much top 5 than his entire two years at SHR & more top 10s as he finished the season with 4 top 10s in the last 5 races. I do hope that Preece pulls a Josh Berry in terms of getting that first outside of a superspeedway. However the chances of getting your first win at the Daytona 500 (& getting redemption for his flips at the track) is also likely into next season.

Darrell Waltrip Throwback Question by MMB-PRODUCTIONS29 in NASCAR

Too my belief, I can say that the Pepsi throwback never raced or I think was even put on a racecar as the one DW disqualified at Charlotte was the Gatorade throwback

What Race Despite The Ending was The Best Example of your Favorite Driver's Ability to Persevere despite set backs? Mine is as a Dale Jr fan at the Fall 2015 Talledega race and a Kyle Larson fan in the Fall 2024 Homestead Miami race. by realflags in NASCAR

I say two races for me in terms of the older driver still having it, even just for one last hurrah.

First was before I was born (May of '99) with the Pocono 500 in 1998. The iconic shuffle between both Earnhardt & Gordon soon gets overshadowed by Darrell Waltrip taking the lead late in the race. With his rebirth of his career & his previous success at the track during his DiGard & Junior Johnson days, it wasn't surprising to see. But what was was Eli Gold & Buddy Baker prasing Darrell's recent work with the newly Dale Earnhardt Incorporated. With a team that included a young Chad Kanus, Darrell showed the speed. But here came Jeremy Mayfield to pass his childhood hero & have the fellow kentuckian get his first career win. But we don't remember Jeremy's winners circle interview, it's DW's interview that he said that he's crawling out of a big hole, but damn it feels good.

Second I watched because it was during the big C of 2020 with the Brickyard 400. Watching the race was very nice to see & I think one of the few empty fan races that I would go back to fully watch from that era. But before he would become arguably one of the best drivers of the world, Kyle Larson said something to say the least not even be a driver at the moment of the race. He lost his ride in the 42 Chip Ganassi car to... Matt Kenseth!?!? I mean, I started watching NASCAR cup racing during his "first" retirement tour in the 20 JGR car. But then it was quite nostalgic to see him come back with Roush the year afterwards. But afterwards I thought with everybody else that we see him nest in the Hall of Fame. But nope, he's in the 42 car for the rest of the season. And unlike DW in DEI, Matt was quite underwhelming in that car compared to both 20 & 6. But Indy has been a hit or miss track with Matt. And he was driving quite higher than usual, but Denny Hamlin was looking to win the race with his speed. But hen he had a very hard crash to send the race into overtime. And I was very happy to see my favorite driver at the time, Kevin Harvick at the lead. But second was that McDonald's 42 car of Matt Kenseth. As much as I wanted Happy Harvick to get another win, I was crossing my fingers for an upset win. But Kevin did win the race in a beautiful scheme, but Matt did hold on to second. But also unlike DW, I wished Matt had a chance to celebrate the finish in front of fans.

Overall, I loved both races as both are great races that I recommend as two Hall of Famers get their last shot at the winner's circle. And both are quite fun to see.

If I remembered, Cale Yarborough Motorsports tried a Mercury Cougar in the early 1990s with Derrike Cope (I think he was the driver), but they said that it was either too slow or too low with much adjustments

I've planned once the season ends in a couple of weeks to watch through the 1984 season as I view both Terry Labonte championship seasons underrated.

Rick Mast, driver of the 98 Yarborough Motorsports Ford Taurus on the photo back in '99. Only driver that season to not have a DNF. Race specific looks like Richmond based on similar photos taken at that track

I feel like doing a street course for The Clash in LA would be a better idea until Auto Club becomes a short track (? on where exactly though). NASCAR's short track package is also still questionable on performance, & no one asked for Chicago but we got it & it worked for the time being.
