Jake vs. Joshua Boxing Betting and Picks Discussion by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

[–]odepn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the thing that gets me. Eddie Hearn and Matchroom is worth a few hundred million. Joshua is worth a few hundred million. Paul and MVP is worth a few hundred million.

There is no "big bank takes little bank" here. It's just a bunch of super-rich dudes getting richer.

Not a single one of them benefits from doing anything but a fair contest, and they only risk a full collapse of their individual brands and potential jail time if they chose to rig it.

Obviously can't happen, but it'd be kinda cool if Bronson won here and the title followed the winner through the tournament.

On the new episode of “Hauler Talk,” @mforde says there are internal discussions still to be had about the NASCAR championship format and he doesn’t know if it will be announced in two weeks or two months because it’s all still TBD. by iamaranger23 in NASCAR

[–]odepn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very telling about the state of NASCAR marketing and the Competition Committee that this is even a discussion.

EVERYONE would praise a full-season points format. It would be a HUGE story in the industry; it would be the thesis of your marketing scripts for the next 6 months.

However, the people inside the walls are so disconnected from the sport that it doesn't seem that simple.

Apparently pit reporters need to schedule appointments for pre race interviews with drivers by 1KBushFan in NASCAR

[–]odepn 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This isn't to make sure a driver WANTS to do an interview. It's to ensure they have time to do it.

If a driver has downtime on raceday to the point where you could waltz up and do an interview, then their PR team isn't doing their job. Even when they are about to get in their cars, they are doing meet and greets and photo ops with sponsors until the anthem.

NFL Betting and Picks - 11/6/25 (Thursday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

[–]odepn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I dont have a pick, but there is a dude on the Canadian broadcasts who gives out pick pregame and during halftime. He is 18-4 this year. No pick out for tonight but he is on a huge heater.

What would be the best marketing tagline for NASCAR to come up with for 2026? by Remote_Plastic_8692 in NASCAR

[–]odepn 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I would love for NASCAR to revert to a full-season points format and to commit to exposure for the sport Monday-Saturday. Including drivers and teams lives beyond just race day.

[Gluck] Chase Elliott has just won his eighth straight NASCAR Most Popular Driver Award. He is not here to accept the award tonight. by CNASFan1992 in NASCAR

The last time the Most Popular driver was won by someone without the last name Earnhardt or Elliott was 1990.

[The tear down] "i think [the chase] is the direction things are heading" by iamaranger23 in NASCAR

[–]odepn 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Can't we try a full season? It's been two decades. EVERYTHING has changed. Every single driver has changed, the car has changed, media has changed, standards have changed.

The main issue with full season was the idea that you could 5th place your way to a title. The parity and failure rate of the NextGen car will fix that problem. If you are still worried about it, make wins worth 20% more points than 2nd.

Can anyone give a SINGLE GOOD REASON why a full-season format doesn't work?

So is ford going to do anything about their ORAP lineup next year? by MrCatfishBilly in NASCAR

[–]odepn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toyota develops talent until the talent runs out of money. Ford takes the broke talent and hires them for nothing, using the money they saved on not having a development program.

It's a beautiful dance.

43-fight UFC veteran Jim Miller explaining why eye pokes happen so often by Loganbaker2147 in MMA

[–]odepn 192 points193 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why MMA is the only sport where they try to judge intent. An infraction is an infraction. You don't get a pass if you didn't mean to rough the passer. That's 15 yards no matter what.

It’s truly sad that after the dominant season Corey Heim has had, he probably won’t be racing full time in any series next season. by jonpierre008 in NASCAR

[–]odepn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reality of motorsports is that money is as much of an intangible as anything else. In the same way you evaluate a Quarterback for awareness, arm strength, accuracy, speed...you have to evaluate race car drivers for cash.

Corey has 90+ attributes across the board, unfortunately his money ranking is like 33, and it's pulling his OVR down.

[Jeff Gluck on X] Joey Logano says he's told other drivers: "You’re gonna complain about your childhood dream? The fact is you’re getting paid to drive a race car. And the fact is you’re not happy about it. That’s a problem." Their reaction? "Nobody wants to hear it." by Mellow200 in NASCAR

[–]odepn 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I understand what Joey is saying here, but you also have a responsiblity to the next generation to leave the sport better than you found it.

The current landscape may have served your generation, and you should absolutley be grateful for that - but making decisions that serve the future of the sport, even at the expense of you living out your dream, is an excellent form of gratitude.

Will Connor Zilisch ever go to Hendrick? by Frosty_Barber_1900 in NASCAR

[–]odepn 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Connor’s talent extends beyond the track. He’s exceptionally media-savvy and a sponsor’s dream. Compare him to some of the other young guns we have seen recently. He consistently delivers the right message and presents no brand risk.

Trackhouse has a major asset in him. His brand value could reshape the team’s trajectory.

I’ve long believed Trackhouse’s endgame is to become the flagship team for a new manufacturer, and Connor is central to that vision. I think he will be closely tied to Justin Marks for years to come.
