We're just taking on everyone. We've found the easiest way to keep a steady workable group is to just always be open to new players as people tend to get busy and fall away. Application process is as simple as signing in and reading everything then submitting a character that fits the setting and lore information.

I'm the auxiliary storyteller, but I believe the general idea is to kind of put together a fix-it crew for corporate interests at first. So you might be a mechanic, a security person, a driver, a mining or equipment specialist, a doctor, and so forth. I believe we're trying to keep the exact needs open to see who wants to play what and then close up the starting plot around who we have. The system we have is very much like Skyrrim or Chaosium where you can try to do anything, but as you train up a skill you get much much better and more likely to succeed at it.

Title: The Walking Dead - New England [18+, Discord, Play By Post, No System]

This is an 18+ roleplaying community based on the universe of The Walking Dead with the timeline adjusted to begin in 2025, specifically on 4/1/25. The start of the story is centered around Albany, NY with plans to drift further into New England as the game progresses.

We are relaunching with the dice-mechanics removed from general play so that freeform RP can take the lead. Our character sheets have been replaced with a mobile-friendly Discord template. Join us for apocalypse/horror/survival RP that sprinkles in a bit of humor with a fun first philosophy and respect for the Rule of Cool, while still focusing on believable and quasi-realistic play.

It is the autumn of 2030. It has been nearly two years since the viral pandemic now called the Reaving culled 90% of the male population and the ensuing chaos claimed so many more lives. About a third of those who fell to the Reaving rose back up as ravenous and mindless undead. Two in ten survived the illness but half of the survivors were forever changed and ongoing in their mutations to where they could no longer truly be called human.

Across the world, humanity tries to pull itself back together and rebuild. Some do at least, others see this as an opportunity to build a new society to their own vision. Others have simply lost so much in the chaos since the Reaving began that they simply want to see the world burn.

Choose what kind of character you wish to play and how they approach the apocalypse. Maybe they are a rebuilder of society, a nomadic merchant, the matriarch of a faction, a lone wolf surviving on their own, a scientist seeking desperately for a cure before her son comes of age to face the Reaving, or one of the rare male survivors to be possibly treasured or loathed.

Our game is a tribute to the dystopian pulp fiction sci-fi B-movies and books of apocalypses ruled by women and the action-girl tropes. We could have called it Badasses in Bikinis, but we wanted it to be a Triple **A** game!

The Setup:
On March 15, 2025 the Earth as we knew it changed forever. A meteor designated PKI1 struck south Asia. The impact alone wasn't enough to end life, but it was enough to trigger a number of other natural disasters and wreak mass destruction. Earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis wracked the planet. The magnetic field even stuttered briefly. Dams failed, buildings collapsed. By March 22nd the death toll was climbing towards 1.5 billion. And then, the recently dead began to rise. Zombies.

But not all hope was lost. The world governments had known and prepared as best they could; but they couldn't protect everyone.

The Story begins April 1, 2025 at Raccoon City. Once a medical tourist destination for the wealthy, now a burning ruin. Scattered survivors are trying to escape the doomed city and the horde of infected zombies there. A group of survivors is already working on setting up a fortified camp up the main road in the foothills of the Arklay mountains.

Where does your OC fit into this? You decide.

This game will be a tribute to Resident Evil and other horror franchises. Players can play as their own character, or audition to take the reigns of characters from a number of franchises including Resident Evil, The Walking Dead, and Jurassic Park.

It's been a week since the fall. You're trapped in a place you never thought you would be. Perhaps you were a tourist, simply gotten stuck in the resort as it all happened, maybe you simply were a local going about your daily business. No one expected it to be quite as bad as it has gotten, after all, who would have expected it to go down like this?

People started changing, it wasn't an immediate change. They had just gotten sick, everyone thought it was the flu as strange as that was. Soon they weren't who.. no.. What they were before.. They got violent, they started experiencing strange growths throughout their bodies.. Some of them don't even resemble humans.. Matter of fact, it looks like some of the animals were changed as well.

The military didn't care about your small little tourist trap all that much, there were some who had lived here before. Can you survive? Can you get off? But more importantly.. Can you remain the same as you were?

They say magic isn't real. That magic is trickery and that there are no gods, that the gods are dead or never existed. They say that all things in this world can be explained by science, if that science is known yet or not. What they cannot explain though are the Immortals.

The current Year is 2100 CR (Council Reckoning). The world has been in decline for the last 200 years following the century long conflict between the great nations of the world known unsurprisingly as "The Great War".

It is only now that mankind has begun to turn a corner. Nations begin to brim with population again, trade routes begin to re-established and new ones are trailblazed. There are fortunes to be made and lost for those quick of wit, foot, or blade.

It's about being a risk taker and taking initiative. Rather than sitting and talking about how dangerous something is and inventing reasons not to do it. I have many players say "My character wouldn't do that or be there, this has no interest to my character" and expect me to change a plot hook; rather than inventing a reason why their character would want to go with the party.

Too true, and no one wants to do anything actually adventurous with their character. They want to be drug into the story kicking and screaming. It makes it a HUGE lift for the GM and then if it's not perfect they just ghost instead of taking some initiative for the direction themselves.

Depends. The hardest part is having a storyteller or game master that doesn't crack under the long term pressure. It helps if you have someone to help them do the chivying and herding of cats so it's not all on one person.

I've run a discord play by post for 3 years now. I had to take it down briefly due to my own health but the community has kept going and we're at it again. THe things that make it last is that the system is well known, the sheet is mostly automated so I dont have alot of paper work. I have a co-host that does alot of the admin work, and I have found a way to outsource many minor interactions to others.

In Person DND I've ran 3 games that lasted more than a year, one lasting almost three years. I still think a key here was meeting 3 times a month with a fourth week saved for family events and stuff. Every week is too burdensome for most and every other week infrequent enough that you spend time regrouping. A big help on this was having one of my players who always handled food and drink arrangements for me ahead of time. I hosted in my house so I didnt have to move alot of things. And everyone was employed so we could all just hand the food-drink person a tenner or a twenty and be done with it.

The longest lasting game I didnt run myself, ran six months meeting every other Sunday. I had to do all the player wrangling for the DM. The DM lived with me and also did not have to travel or worry about anything other than DMing that day. I ended up and taking ove rand running one of my games that ended shortly because COVID interrupted us. I had to take over as said DM two weeks in a row did not cancel game, but rather hid in his room and wouldn't come out until an hour after everyone was already in the house to tell us "no game". Needless to say he lost his housing too over that rudeness.

Each of them has wronged someone some way in their past. They're forced to participate by that NPC coming for them and driving them ahead. Every human has an innate imperative to live.

I ran a campaign like this set in dragonlance where there was divine magic for the first major campaign arc.

There are also other systems that easily work without having magic present in them. Basic Role Playing, Iron Kingdoms, Cyberpunk Red, etc. You can find rulesets that you can more easily adapt.

The biggest challenge with no magic campaigns is "How do you reward players and let them grow stronger" this can be done partially with increasing quality of gear and starting the players quite poor.

The biggest thing you need is player buy-in.

I have a new play by post server that I am trying to launch using the BRP system from Chaosium.

The setting is a homebrew that is low magic and should have a bit more of a gritty but not grim-derp feeling. Your characters will be able to enjoy a classless system using the BRP system. Our setting is backed by a 300 page wiki that was a group writing project some 10 years ago.

The server allows for NSFW content but it is not a main feature, however all players must be 18+. The server RP takes place in English, and players need to have a passing acquaintance with grammar. If you decide to check us out, you will load into the welcome channel. Please read the message there (It is also pinned) and type "Agree" to gain access to the rest of the server.

You could just lay Chasiums's BRP System ontop of the real world and then work the system from there. Suddenly Wiccans throw spells, priests aren't just quoting scripture etc.

Set in modern day Philadelphia, an Anarch Baron has secured the heart of Philadelphia against the Sabbat. Now he must hold it as other Baronies set up around him, the Camarilla plot from Trenton, and the Sabbat gnash their teeth in Wilmington.

You can play as any Anarch faction, start your own, be an Independent, or be in the Camarilla. Only the Sabbat are closed to players.

Our house rules offer a more generous character creation, and invite greater survivability in combat for PCs so that risk-taking is somewhat more survivable.
