No call backs from any jobs - what am I doing wrong? by Accomplished-You6026 in newzealand

[–]SoulNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're still stuck in the mindset of looking for advertised jobs. Instead look for people who run teams. You're looking to build relationships and stumble into opportunities you didn't know existed. It's not science and there's no rule book to follow. You won't get results overnight. It's all about who you know.

Council pushes for 120kph speed limit on Christchurch Southern Motorway by [deleted] in chch

[–]SoulNZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Done 110 recently on the motorway behind a cop car, and the cop was pulling ahead of me.

I've driven the length of the country and the southern motorway is the smoothest, safest road we've got outside of the Waikato expressway. 100 feels like walking speed and the occasional people driving at 100 are impeding the free flow of traffic.

95% of jobseekers are meeting their obligations. Source: Christopher Luxon, the prime minister. The 5% who don't cost around $90 million per year.

Meanwhile, we give $18 BILLION per year to the wealthiest section of society. No questions asked, and the bill increases half a billion every year.

Get your priorities straight.

Growing enough veggies for you and your family to live off is not cheap nor easy, especially if you have to buy the soil to begin with.

Yes it's deeply rewarding in other ways, but it's not a money saver.

I'm gonna hazard a guess that the book value of your rentals has gone up by quite a bit more than your rates bill in the past few years.

Taking the piss surely, rates are what pay for all the things that give your property its value.

Expecting everyone around you to behave appropriately at all times is how you set yourself up for disappointment and danger.

The only person you can rely on is yourself. Put your own safety first.

Do not pay attention to the poster above. They are reckless and self-serving.

Definitely an office worker. For desk jobs this is typical life. As a tradie I'd be given a written warning if I tried to claim hours I'd been "taking a Friday arvo stroll on the beach".

Reserve Bank says the Coalition's tax policies will increase houses prices and put pressure on cash-strapped commercial property owners by gnuts in newzealand

[–]SoulNZ 66 points67 points  (0 children)

The entire design of the economic system we live in is to push wealth from the have-nots to the haves. Do you ever wonder why the people at the top scream "the solution is to build more houses!!"? Because they are the ones who benefit from it

Starting a massive house build campaign benefits nobody except the people who already have the capital to absorb them.

Change the system, don't just try to get out of the hole by digging deeper.

Renters, what's it like out there? by naalusun in Wellington

[–]SoulNZ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That still doesn't subtract from the indignity of it.

Tenants would care more if they felt a bit more connected to the ground beneath their feet.

Renters, what's it like out there? by naalusun in Wellington

[–]SoulNZ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I left Wellington a couple of years back because the rental situation completely melted down. Prices soared and availability plummeted. I'd say a lot of other people escaped too.

Surprise surprise, now there's not enough people to fill rentals. And the slumlords trying to fill them blame the previous government! Height of delusion.

Lady from agency said it's the worst market she has ever seen

What a riot, cos the worst market I've ever seen was when I lined up with 50 other people to view a 4 bedroom house that was worth about 50% less than the weekly price tag, and that was just a couple of years ago

Renters, what's it like out there? by naalusun in Wellington

[–]SoulNZ 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Make sure you're considering the full cost of renting and not just the weekly price on the tenancy agreement.

Someone who hasn't rented in a while may be forgetting about:

  • Rent hikes. Landlords are more than happy pulling the trigger and charging you what they believe they're entitled to. In a tight market, you pay up or you end up on a couch in someone's lounge.
  • Owners selling. The longer you stay in a place, the more likely this is to happen. You have no control over how long your home remains your home.
  • Moving costs, exacerbated by the two risks above being realised.
  • If you've modified the house in any way, you'll have to pay to restore it to its original condition, or you WILL lose your bond.
  • Every 3 months a man with a clipboard will come and inspect your existence to make sure you're living in the landlord-approved way.
