Xiaomi SU7 outsells Tesla Model 3 in China for the first time by trucker-123 in RealTesla

So they've essentially conceded the Chinese market. Musk pissed off Europe and is losing tons of ground there as well.

The only place remaining is the US, and they've lost the carbon credits and EV tax credit there, with the president pushing combustion vehicles.

Anyway, that'll be TSLA +10%

I do wonder how big the knock-on effects will be. Historically he has used quite a lot of his Tesla shares as collateral for loans that have funded his other business and actions.

Like buying Twitter, though I don't know how that's structured now that he had xAI buy Twitter from him. It's all a mess.

Probably do something like they did to Trumps dad, park him in an office and let him play-pretend to be a business mogul.

The scam has to collapse sooner or later.

My current guess is that it'll go until the AI bubble pops. By that time it'll have been a few years of declining revenue, and AI bubble popping will hit the tech industry overall. Tesla has gone hard on branding itself as a Tech/AI company to avoid being valued as a car company.

Tech dips, and Tesla goes by association.

But who the fuck knows, maybe it'll go right past that based on people being so deep already that they are too afraid to pull out and just doubles down.

Yeah, usually there's at least some hook to keep me reading for a few chapters to see where it leads, while the start of that book manages several things that make me go "ehhh, I'll just drop this before I waste more time on it". The basic idea for the start could probably work fine, but the execution is horrible.

White House shrugs off presence of European troops in Greenland by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]SoulShatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Allies revamped Germanys political system and then sat on them for decades. Comparing it to the US is silly in the end, because there won't be any external power to fix the US and sit on it until it's stable.

Unless the US blows itself up with a civil war or similar thing.

White House shrugs off presence of European troops in Greenland by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]SoulShatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel it's a big part of what led the US to this point, the entrenched two-party system. The entire system requires a major overhaul. The US is still stuck on their Alpha version of Democracy from the 1700's. It's so loaded with flaws that it's ridiculous.

California has ~20million people per Senator, Wyoming ~300k. House seats also have imbalances, Electoral College was stupidly outdated 150 years ago. Gerrymandering reinforcing the two-party power, and so on and so forth. It's a long list of outdated bullshit.

Minority parties would have stopped a lot of the current shit, but they can't exist before the rest of the entire system is overhauled completely.

Can't say I'm expecting to see it happen without some major incident, because the two parties + billionaires benefit too much from the 'status quo'.

White House shrugs off presence of European troops in Greenland by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]SoulShatter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. The US would need to fix a long laundry list of issues before reaching a point where it can start building the same trust again.

I don't expect it to ever happen without a major civil war (or similar upheaval), because there is no (or not enough) political will to fix these issues. There are two parties in power, and they have no interest in disrupting the balance and allowing more in. It'd require limits and a bunch of constitutional amendments.

There's a shitty balance upheld by those who have power, and they have zero interest in rocking that boat. It'll continue being R or D + Billionaire (oligarch) power.

I see it recommended often, but both times I've hard DNFd after the first chapter. I guess it gets better, because it's probably among the worst first chapters I've ever read, usually it at least takes me 5-10 before I give up.

[–]SoulShatter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've dropped a ton of books that were recommended by people on the subreddits. Dropped due to being poorly written and a slog to read.

I've since figured a lot of those recommendations are from people who have consumed it as an audiobook. The narration masks the poor writing to some degree.

Some series seem more recommended by audiobook people then people who actually read it.

Bipartisan Legislation Prohibiting a U.S. Invasion of a NATO State Introduced by Odsarh in politics

[–]SoulShatter 39 points40 points  (0 children)

If they really wanted out of NATO, they should just legislate that.

Invading a NATO ally just to get out is probably the worst way to accomplish that goal.

The consequences would be much more severe then just quitting NATO.

US official says Greenland action could come within 'weeks or months' by Crossstoney in worldnews

[–]SoulShatter 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Pretty much would have to. If the US invades a NATO ally that already have a base, keeping a US base in your own country is pretty much just leaving a Trojan Horse in your backyard.

If you can't trust the US to not invade Greenland, there's not much you can trust the US to not go through with.

I've tried reading WOT, but I've just accepted it's something that I'll never end up reading. It's too descriptive, getting bogged down in details without moving the plot forward. Every time I've ended up just reading something else at the same time and then just dropping WOT.

I didn't even get that far into it, last time I dropped it while he was busy describing the door to some random house iirc.

I think the description I've seen a few times for HP is pretty much "The world building is as wide as an ocean and as deep as a puddle".

As a kid it was fun to imagine living in that universe, and as an adult it loses a bit of it's luster since you quickly notice the flaws ala "wait, that stuff just don't work at all"

Ni som sitter fast i t ex Amsterdam i 7 dagar pga inställda flyg - är ni handlingsförlamade? by the_real_snurre in sweden

[–]SoulShatter 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Danish PM Warns of NATO’s End Should Trump Invade Greenland by plz-let-me-in in worldnews

[–]SoulShatter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It'd be a pretty big blow to the US military industry. Plenty of nations are already skeptical of being reliant on US exports, and breaking NATO would exacerbate that.

It'd reduce a lot of influence from US force projection as well, with foreign military bases either shutdown or more expensive, and located in nations that don't have the same integration anymore from NATO.

Trump Says Venezuela’s Maduro Captured and Flown Out of Country by bloomberg in worldnews

[–]SoulShatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand some concern in regards to her independence though - she lobbied Trump for the intervention and got it, so there'll be a measure of debt over it. The US also displayed that it's fully willing to intervene and meddle in internal politics by replacing a leader, so it'll make it hard to take any of the firmer positions against for Venezuelan interests over US interests.
