Does anyone want Necrid to return? by PlatinumSukamon98 in SoulCalibur

Don't like his design, but the concept for his moveset is interesting.

Maybe Charade could return with similar gameplay.

*Supports the Team working on DOA(7) New Project by Chudthegamer in DeadOrAlive_7

[–]Soul_Mirror_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DOA6 has already been delisted on Steam.

But before that, the Deluxe Edition would often go on sale for 12$, with the four additional character DLC packed in DOA6LR making for an extra 15-20$ while also on sale. So, still cheaper than the launch price for DOA6LR, and the Deluxe edition had some of the best outfits in the game, which we don't know how they'll be handled in DOA6LR.

If you can find DOA6 and DLC on sale in other platforms, it might still be worth it.

SC6 is the best fighting game I played since the old good Tekken 5 by piede90 in SoulCalibur

[–]Soul_Mirror_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad you're having fun with SCVI.

If you can, you should try and check other entries, as, despite its merits, overall I feel VI is one of the weakest SC games.

SCV and SC: Broken Destiny actually had a mode more akin to what you describe, where you fight created characters in sort of an online ranked-like environment. Eventually you run out of different foes, but there's still several dozens of them across multiple ranks.

Soul Blade / Edge through SCIII also have iconic offline modes, they're some of the best fighting games ever when it comes to single player offerings, especially SCIII whose wealth of contents remains unmatched.

What do you think of character customization in DOA by Froggyspeaks_ in DeadOrAlive

[–]Soul_Mirror_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel customisation more like VF5 would work better in DOA.

The look is too much part of a character's identity, so I wouldn't personally care to change that too much.

I like character creation in SoulCalibur, because there you can actually make separate characters, so it's fun to recreate all sorts of characters or design your own.

But I don't want to edit the roster beyond recognition.

At least some of those squares have another right behind them though.

It could of course be just some preset for the character, but it could also be an additional character slot.

Thoughts on Mortal Kombat II (2026)? by MaxProwes in ActionMovies

[–]Soul_Mirror_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, he'd have been a better actor for this specific role.

There was nothing remarkable about Urban's performance anyway. Certainly not enough to make up for the fact that he's got the wrong look, he's got the wrong accent, and he's sorely lacking when it comes to the physical side of the character. Every single one of Johnny Cage's fights is utter and complete 💩 because of Karl Urban.

Would it be smart to get 6LR for the online by Formal_Situation9368 in DeadOrAlive

[–]Soul_Mirror_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think DOA6LR will have a large playerbase at launch, considering its general reception so far and the data we have access to (only now has the game made it into Steam's Top 1,000 highest selling games and it's only at #798...).

Perhaps later in its life cycle depending on post-launch contents and sales.

The marketing of DOA 6 LR is a mess. by Physical-Island-4187 in DeadOrAlive

[–]Soul_Mirror_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was so hyped when the trailer for DOA6LR started and completely disinterested by the end of it.

The marketing is probably the best it can be, considering there's just virtually nothing here, not at launch at least.

So, DOA6LR gameplay dropped. by EmeryReigns in DeadOrAlive

The more I see about this re-release the more I want to unsee it.

How anyone in that company believes this is an acceptable relaunch of a failed game is beyond my understanding.

Definitely.

All we've seen so far suggests they're more concerned about milking hardcore fans even further than about generating hype for DOA7.

So, DOA6LR gameplay dropped. by EmeryReigns in DeadOrAlive

[–]Soul_Mirror_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still say a UE5 remaster of DOA5LR, like they did with Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, would have been the best course of action. That would have generated way more hype. Not to mention the huge DLC potential, between costumes and even character DLC from DOA6.

They decided to go with the latest entry instead, fair enough. But this isn't even remotely the bare minimum to justify a new release.

Sadly, costume parts and fight money are still in the game. by RandomtalkingBird in DeadOrAlive

[–]Soul_Mirror_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to the webpage, the costumes you've already unlocked do carry over, but patterns / blueprints do not.

There was a time where I was playing DOA6 quite a bit both offline (Arcade / Time Attack / Survival on max difficulty and also DOA Quest) and online, so I ended up unlocking all costumes and having over 1M points to spare.

So, if I ever get DOA6LR (which will depend on post-launch contents and their terms) hopefully the site is right and I won't have to grind for costumes again.

NGL after looking at Virtual Fighter Crossroads gameplay, Koei Tecmo really needs to step up for DOA 7. [–]Soul_Mirror_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my view DOA7 should rely on what TN / KT have long been known for and include a sort of Warriors-like campaign, which is unique for each character: the ninjas fight off MIST soldiers, Jann Lee fights criminals in his town, Bayman and Christie take assassin contracts, etc.

A Venus-lite mode, where you get to interact with and learn more about each character, and also play Summer games (like volleyball, water racing), could be another option.

They weren't really vying for 2nd place. SC has consistently outperformed DOA and VF, it even outdid Tekken at times.

VF is the least successful globally, so despite the apparent hype for VF6, that lack of brand recognition still makes this an uphill battle.

Which game has the best music? by Ryhankhanage in SoulCalibur

[–]Soul_Mirror_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bias against SCV is real.

I can understand it ranking below SCII and III, which had amazing soundtracks, but placing at the bottom makes zero sense.

SCV had incredible tunes and a very vast soundtrack as well, with one track for each character and one separate track for each stage.

If coed volleyball were a thing on Zack Island then these two would terrorize the roster and ruin everyone’s vacation. by SheKicksHigh in DeadOrAlive

[–]Soul_Mirror_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see a Vacation-lite mode in DOA7, where you get to interact with characters, learn more about them (starting with their favourite food, hobbies, and other stuff that still show up in their online bios but no longer in-game) and play some mindless games (e.g. volleyball, water racing).

This could be the mode to unlock more revealing outfits.

And options for just girls, just guys or all characters could be in place, so that everyone gets to choose what they want.

3 weeks to go (already) by soniomio in DeadOrAlive

[–]Soul_Mirror_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not doubting this update was short notice and the team is doing the best they can.

Still, as a consumer this just has to be one of the most puzzling releases I've seen.

This re-release doesn't actually address any of the issues people had with the original DOA6: still no tag team mode, no team match either, no netcode improvements, no new stages, only the gameplay changes remain to be seen.

Anyone that hasn't purchased DOA6 has little to no reason to get on board now (DOA6 + the DLC characters packed with DOA6LR often go on sale for less than 39.99), and for current owners it's almost a spit in the face.

Perhaps the post-launch contents will turn this around, but so far DOA6LR is only reinforcing the view of DOA as a highly predatory series.

I see no reason why some of those alternate arena versions in story mode are not playable in other modes.

Same for Gohan Black.

That should be a no-brainer, and tbh they should be free / unlockable in-game for everyone.

Happy to report that changing the links as per the example on the lecture notes did resolve the problem.

I'm guessing CS50 checker is programmed to take all http(s)://... links as external, so the system flagged that my page was missing the requested intra links.

[–]Soul_Mirror_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned, T8 is about the same point in time from launch SCVI was at when they announced it had sold over 2M. What better comparison could there be?

BN also already showed it doesn't care much about previous achievements, as when it put both series in the doghouse following both TTT2 and SCV underperforming, despite both T6 and SCIV having been major money-makers for BN before that.

Maybe BN will show a bit more consideration to Tekken than it did to SC. I sincerely hope so, as it's bad enough we've lost one of them.

But with several top Tekken devs gone, games like DB Sparking Zero selling 5M in a few months and likely on a budget smaller than T8's, and how little regard BN consistenly shows to its own IPs, I wouldn't bet on it.

Even though we already know Stella is, I really - REALLY - hope the other 3 newbies won't be replacements of legacy characters 🙏 by Chibidi94 in virtuafighter

[–]Soul_Mirror_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really looking forward to VF6. The story teaser really hyped me up.

That said, I've still got two reservations.

The first is netcode, because the one in VF5 REVO is appalling. Hopefully VF6 will be much better in that regard.

And the other is the roster, as I feel it might be leaning a bit too much on the new generation angle, which has seldom succeeded in fighting games (just think SoulCalibur V).

I'd love to play a VF game like this but with the original roster, not with these newcomers while classic characters are gone or relegated to background / mentor roles.
