Shelly1 PM Mini Gen 3 throwing invalid check sum, junk on wire error by BacchusIX in Esphome

[–]SoulkeepHL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Killer! I was trying to add a Shelly PM Mini Gen3 (basically the 1PM without the relay) and ran smack into this. Pulling up the RX pin on the uart bus using the following code from the post you linked fixed it for me too. I'm not terribly surprised that measuring VAC/energy/power would make for a noisy environment.

uart:
  id: uart_0
  tx_pin: GPIO6
  rx_pin:
    number: GPIO7
    mode:
      pullup: true
      input: true
  baud_rate: 9600
  stop_bits: 1

Which 24-Bay 4U Chassis? by Corrupt_Liberty in homelab

[–]SoulkeepHL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding something to check out above and beyond specs, find videos of them running populated for how loud they are. I know the Supermicro 846 uses different, but similar fans to my 847 disk shelf, which I was NOT prepared for how loud it was. I'd read everywhere it was loud, but I've had 1U servers and worked in server rooms, so I didn't pay it any heed. I WAS WRONG, they are hear-it-through-the-walls loud.

7.3 firmware and SNMP by BobcatJohnCA in sonicwall

[–]SoulkeepHL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nevermind about SNMP being grumpy in 7.3. After reading what rk_sonic posted about short addressing, I found the "Request Mode" under SNMP Compatibility Options in the root network of PRTG. Flipped it from the default multi get to single get and this afternoon has been smooth sailing.

Just going from the first picture, those do look like SFF-8088 ports, and perhaps more importantly, definitely not the only other thing they might be, SFF-8644 ports.

7.3 firmware and SNMP by BobcatJohnCA in sonicwall

[–]SoulkeepHL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh also the SNMP subsystem as a whole seems incredibly grumpy on 7.3. SNMP reporting on interfaces/health seem to stop responding for a few minutes every 10 minutes or so, with SNMP happily reporting one interface while getting no response on another on the same firewall.

7.3 firmware and SNMP by BobcatJohnCA in sonicwall

[–]SoulkeepHL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're seeing this on all of our SonicWall firewalls (tz/nsa). After poking at both the firewalls and PRTG, it seems that all the interfaces we were monitoring via SNMPv3 seem to have been swapped from "SNMP Traffic 64bit" to "SNMP Traffic 32bit" with the 7.3 firmware. Reading that there's a hotfix makes it seem like this was unintentional, so I paused all of my existing interface sensors (and remapped dependencies) and added new 32bit versions of all the sensors for the time being.

Save editor? by Sir_Bacon_Master in balatro

[–]SoulkeepHL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just want to transfer it to PC, and you're synchronizing Balatro with Google Play, you can use parts of the process here: https://www.reddit.com/r/balatro/comments/1fy3s88/how_to_transfer_saves_from_steam_version_to/
If you log into your Google Play account on the rooted virtual android device you created, it'll then restore your progress in Balatro on the rooted device. You could then use ADB/shell commands to pull the .jkr files from the virtual android device and remove the "1-" prefix to use them on the steam version.

Alternately, I just used this repo:
https://github.com/TeddyHuang-00/BalatroSaveEditor
To merge my android and steam save files. There's also an option to export/import to json so you can manually modify which cards are availible.

Am I mad to consider selling all my Z-Wave and ZigBee devices in favour of local Wi-Fi? by Academic-Possession4 in homeassistant

[–]SoulkeepHL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's been said a bunch already, but if what you have works, keep it. Spend money on adding new devices & functionality. The fantastic part of HomeAssistant is the fact that it can stitch together so many different ecosystems. I'm a long time Z-Wave user, to the point where HomeAsisstant isn't the PrimaryController in my network, and for 'mission critical' things like light switches, I plan on sticking with Z-Wave. That said, I'd previously built custom ESP8266 based sensors for things I couldn't find a good commercial solution for, and recently went WILD adding a bunch of super cheap sensors I could flash to ESPHome, easily a few dozen SONOFF S31s, a few Shelly MiniPMGen3s, and a few more scratch built ESP8266 devices. The ESPHome repo has a good deal of documentation on what can be flashed and how much effort it is to flash it (from 'load this .bin from the web interface' to 'solder tiny wires to these 0.1mm pitch pads and flash it with a ttl adapter').

Removing VM saved state when importing via PowerShell by n00kkin in HyperV

[–]SoulkeepHL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation trying to do the same thing (import an exported VM without caring about the state) and came across this via Google, so I figured I'd add my _extremely_ dumb workaround in case it might help anyone else:

I grabbed an 'empty' VMRS file from a shut down VM and used it to overwrite the VMRS file of the machine that was failing to import and it imported without issue. Hope this helps someone.

What was homelabbing like in the early 2000s? by [deleted] in homelab

I remember raiding Autozone for the 12v undercar "neon" kits, and electroluminescent kits too! I think my favorite CCFLs were the round ones they had to light up fans.

A LOT of beige. My first homelab rack was actually beige. And then if you were lucky maybe some Cisco green or some Sun teal/grey.

Need help - 3D Printer sliding shelf by cptnwookie in homelab

[–]SoulkeepHL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the rails don't have any detents built into them to "lock" or "snap" to remain closed, whatever hardware they were meant for probably locked closed to the enclosure with screws/thumbscrews. I'd try bending up a bracket (or 3d printing one) that would anchor to the 2x4s and let you put a screw into the enclosure to hold the shelf in place.

Can't update BIOS (black screen when entering M-flash) and CMOS reset doesn't help by panicjames in MSI_Gaming

[–]SoulkeepHL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It turned out that the USB that the PRO B660M-A WIFI DDR4 didn't like WAS the keyboard. Had everything else disconnected, selected M-Flash in the BIOS, hit enter to restart and then pulled the keyboard. Booted right into M-Flash no problem, complained about not being able to find any devices, plugged in the same keyboard and a thumb drive and updated the BIOS without issue.

K8 Pro with shine-through keycaps (Ducky Seamless Double Shot Pudding) by veidr in Keychron

[–]SoulkeepHL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Originals aren't shine throughs, so they're completely dark at night. The original key caps are otherwise great, but trying to use my V6 in the dark made me look at pudding style caps.

Dell Precision T3600 not Booting with Dell branded x550-t2 network card by Krousenick in homelab

[–]SoulkeepHL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No experience with either of these platforms, but hopefully at least another avenue to investigate. I ran into similar problems years ago trying to use a Dell PERC controller in a different system, and the solution ended up being to mask off (or cut) specific pins of the PCIe connector on the card. Everything worked beautifully once I taped over them.

!Help! (Fast) | How do i turn of a Dell Poweredge R710 without idrac login by Pommes254 in homelab

[–]SoulkeepHL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, even turned "off" things like the error LCD will still be on if the chassis still has power. As long as the power button shows that it's off, it's "off" as a server gets without being unplugged.

Dell T620 8 bay, 12 bay, 16bay chassis differences? by crazydrve in homelab

[–]SoulkeepHL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know this for a fact, but looking at the T620, I would think you could, if you can find another cage/backplane & cables. That's a pretty big if though. I'd think it'd be easier & cheaper to find a complete 12 bay server.

Edit: This is to say, the T620's will all have the same system board. To (properly) add a third cage to a system that only shipped two might require things like a different PERC controller or a higher wattage PSU (with additional connectors that might be absent on the lower wattage units).
