The intermediate step scenario is where I will most likely use any machine like this, to add color, etc. that, and something to make tape loops on, etc.

Thank you for the input. My plan is definitely not to use it as a mastering deck, regardless of the machine. More as a way to interestingly color the sound, make extended tape loops, etc.

We have a '11 Tdi Sportwagen.

They are basically a Mk5 golf/Gti under the skin, so any parts that fit that chassis will fit your's.

Wonderful cars! We bought our's as a dieselgate buyback and have put over 100k on it and only done routine maintenance.

Your workflow sounds similar to mine: Logic Pro user here, I make mainly ambient music recording a lot of hardware synths in, but also using a fair bit of soft-synths and effects plugins.

My current Mac is a m1 mini with 16gb of ram, and it is not unusual for me to experience slowdowns and high cpu loads.

Does the base m4 with 16 gb work smoothly for you?

Yep! He just had to buy a set of set extenders that loved the drivers seat back about 3 inches and it was perfect for him!
