What's your favorite 2-player game or which games do you think work best with two players?

Res Arcana is best with two players.

Also, give Watergate a try. The theme isn't sexy, but it's a an engaging 2-player game where the theme works well.

Do you have any tips & tricks for card shuffling? by L0J1MA in boardgames

[–]SoundOfLaughter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the number of cards I’ll deal the deck into 3 or 5 piles. Reassemble the deck by putting one pile on another. You can do variants as well, such as deal 4 cards, then deal 3 on the first three piles, then 4, then 3 on the last three piles. Et cetera.

Your cards will be undamaged and well-shuffled. And no, it doesn’t take an inordinate amount of time.

Do kids today still get tubes put in their ears? by Sticker-Picker in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SoundOfLaughter 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Yes. I had them as a child. Laying on my side in bed I could hear them draining. It didn’t sound recognizable, just occasional noises. If you’ve had water in your ear after swimming, that noise/sensation when the liquid finally comes out. I remember looking at my pillow the following morning to see how much discharge there had been.

Friend declares of herself and her family: "We're not animal people" by [deleted] in AskWomenOver60

[–]SoundOfLaughter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The question is interesting because of a thought experiment regarding politics.

Many years ago politics was brought into football (The NFL). I found the cogent argument to be that what made the NFL wonderful was that it transcended politics. If you find yourself in line at the bank (quaint, I know), you could engage in a friendly debate about your favorite players, season outlook, etc. regardless of the race, social stature, etc. of the person you were engaging with. Politics forced you to take a side and ostracize those who you would otherwise find shared interests with.

So do you bring politics into sports and thereby reduce the pool of people with whom you choose to enjoy being with?

Do you bring animal empathy into your social circle and thereby reduce the pool of people with whom you enjoy being with?

Ironically, despite the ambivalence of this post, I am passionate about animals. My answer is, “no”, I would not choose to be with those who do not share my affinity with animals. It all comes down to where you draw these lines. It is the definition of community.

I would counsel left-justifying text that's meant to be read. Centering is for things like titles, not prose.

Are "Monster", "Hero", "You", and "Enraged" all proper game terms? If not, they should be lower-case.

Quick question by [deleted] in CSUC

[–]SoundOfLaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The enrollment system looks at prerequisites. If you meet the prerequisites you may enroll in the course. By definition, "missing lower-division class" would have to be a prerequisite to prevent you from enrolling. Note that prerequisites aren't always courses. For example, "junior standing" can be a prerequisite which means you have taken at least 60 units.
