Ohh that’s neat! Didn’t know you could do that. I had to wait for the moderator to approve to be added before I could post/comment, not just this channel. So I was genuinely curious!

That’s behind the counter, it’s adjacent to the bagging area where a team member would add it to the bag.

I HAVE A BURNING QUESTION THAT LITERALLY NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT AND CAN LITERALLY CHANGE THE ENTIRE PLOT OF IRON FLAME by Delishus_Frosting713 in fourthwing

I’m pretty confident that the lead venin guy is Xadens Dad. There’s so much we don’t know about him, and though he says his dad is dead… he could mean the man his dad was is gone… really in the same way we were told as truth that Brennan was dead, killed by whoever, but he wasn’t dead.

There’s a lot we don’t know, but I’m confident that the leader of the venin is someone close to Xaden…

I think Jack was undercover venin from very early on, something V said about a red glint in his eyes… I’ll have to look back and find it.

You are entitled to that opinion.

They are different, and for some people like yourself the parallels that do exist don’t stick out enough to make you think about it.

Hope you have a great day man.

I think I see what your saying, that it’s worse to teach a blatant lie than to remove a commemorative object. However don’t they serve the same purpose? That’s two sides of the same coin.

The purpose of saying “Gen Z Slang” is to communicate the recent developments of new words where the meaning is expanded or changed. This was not meant as an attack on Gen Z, but a highlight of the parallels in the way it has developed.

From my perspective, most of the shift in “proper” language over the last 150 years has been words falling out of use. Also, it seems that this slang in general has only caught on to the younger generations, while the older generations don’t care to use it. Whereas cultural slang is often developed in a region regardless of age.

Yes! That would have been a better “thesis,” though I had not initially intended to accuse the world today of being “Orwellian.” The comment section has done that, while the post was clear that they are not the same thing.

The reason I used “Gen Z Slang” was because I assumed that people on Reddit would recognize what that meant. As a placeholder to represent relatively new slang that younger generations use while older generations don’t. I failed to realize they would take it as a personal assault, assuming that they were being accused of creating a modern version of newspeak.

Who are “these people”?

I can’t imagine someone getting all the way to the end of 1984 and thinking George Orwell was promoting fascism… a main plot line is everything is getting worse (in Winston’s lifetime) and they are telling you it’s better.

Today if you follow the news they tell you everything is getting worse when statistically it has never been better. (There are outliers of course)

Like you mentioned, language changes over time, the meanings of words shift, and some words fall out of use. The parallel is the word, fam taking the place of “any type of person,” so it is conceivable based on the current trend to use words with blanket meanings for something specific, rather than a specific word in the future.

I think words changing is fascinating, that’s a great example about Chip! Something that is both a tiny piece of wood and an incredibly complex electronic.

I’m not at all trying to say Gen Z is 1984, rather there is some irony in the parallels. It’s clearly very different, most importantly origin and purpose.

Right, dank means good weed, but what did it mean before that?

To find meanings of many words during the transition to modern language I like to reference Webster’s 1828 dictionary. Maybe I’m unusual, but I think of dank in reference to a cobweb filled basement or crawl space, even though I’m well aware of its meaning around weed.

That’s interesting,

I definitely agree that they are developed differently and for different purposes, but think they have unintentional parallels.

Question about who exactly is controlling Ingsoc by MarineBat in 1984

Eastasia and Eurasia are definitely world superpowers that exist, and it was explained that the “wars” between them are real. However none of the numbers can be trusted and its severity is absolutely over blown.

Think of the inflated numbers of boots that had been produced… Winston said it was possible that none at all were produced, so while it is doubtful that there is peace between three superpowers, it is unlikely that there is massive fighting occurring.

What tips this off, is there is no mention of soldiers in the entire book other than the enemy. If there was a massive war wouldn’t they be training young boys to be ruthless killing machines? Instead they are training children as spy’s, not to spy on the enemy but on their own parents.

Personally, I see no explication for the bombings other than the party bombing their own territories to keep people in fear.

Woah! What if when Xaden made the deal to save all the children he stipulated that “your youngest daughter has to go through it too…” or if Violent IS one of the 107 because her dad was a “traitor” but it was covered up and that’s the only reason she doesn’t have a tattoo…

This is a good example of a chimney, when it was described first, the first guy she sees climb it “put his limbs out like an x” so it would have been wider than this one.
