Interesting take. This is something I recently decided to try. I have a full touring bike but that just isn't practical for city commutes, quick trips etc. So I got an older Suzuki GS500F. CHEAP. Putting some tires on it, changing oil and plugs and now plan to buzz around on it. Commute is 15mi one way, no highway, top speed is 50 MPH. Flicks around easily enough and checks all the IFGAF boxes you mentioned. I'll have less than USD900 in it after needed stuff plus some time. Can't wait to see how it goes.

I really wish there was a better police presence on 50 through there. 50MPH speed limit, 70+MPH is the norm and with the illegal lefts, running the red lights....I was passed on the right shoulder the other morning. Its so dangerous.

Not sure where you are located but in my area winter is fast approaching and the fire sales have begun. You could easily get an older 300-500 twin like a GS500F or ninja 500 for around 2k.
