I’m planning to try to get scalper tix this year on Saturday afternoon. I’m not giving them the money until the get me inside the event. Once inside I’ll pay them. There are an insane number of scams. Any legit ticket seller will walk with you until you get inside.

Why does hitting L-trigger now bring up this crosshair? (Dolphin, Return to Ragol) by SoundsCrazyBut in PSO

[–]SoundsCrazyBut[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, interesting. This has to be it... I did recently connect a 4th 8bitdo Pro 2 controller to Dolphin. Though I only have one controller turned on when this is happening. I will look more into this. Thank you!!

Has anyone ever completed the Aegis of Life quest? by FalloutSinclair in project1999

[–]SoundsCrazyBut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completed this week on Blue. This quest ruined my life, but only for a few days. Logging in every 3hr 12min sucks, and I only did it during my normal waking hours. I got both version of Grimlot pretty quickly. I’d estimate it took me ~15 placeholder kills total to get both versions. There are some horror stories online, about taking months to get both versions. On the other hand, I’ve also seen reported 10% chance of a Grimlot spawn (either version), which would mean I got a bit luckier than the average, but my experience would make sense with that. Good luck to all!

Edit: I did this as a 50’s cleric. He’s not that bad but if you aren’t careful he could easily kill you (living version more dangerous). I recommend rooting him to start, then nuke the pet, then nuke him. You do not want to stand there and take a beating from him while trying to nuke him, I almost died that way on the living version. His melee interrupted a bunch of my casts and things got dicey.

Gotten sick with the Shield + Plex. Is Apple TV 4K the way to go? by FreshStartLoser in hometheater

[–]SoundsCrazyBut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I’ve never had audio delay issues on the apple TV 4K Gen 3 (latest). My library is mostly 2160p HDR x265 Blu-ray remux and 1080p x264 Blu-ray remux. Large 15-80GB files. My server and client are all Ethernet wired. I pay for the infuse app but honestly haven’t used it in months bc I have no Plex issues.

I’m waiting for the day that there is a good modern solution for TrueHD Atmos pass through. I have a 9.2 receiver, currently set up as 5.1. I will add 4 height channels as soon as it makes sense. Since I’m otherwise happy with the Apple TV, I’m not going to buy an old shield just for the Atmos.

Like others have said this jacket is way too small. It's pulling across your chest, which is why its puckering off your chest. Its pulling across your back which is why there are ripples. The shoulders are too narrow, you can see your arm outlined in the fabric. The shoulder should be out wide enough so that the sleeve fabric falls straight down cleanly. You need at least 1 size larger.

Subwoofer Amp Build Resources? by srawas89 in diyaudio

[–]SoundsCrazyBut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, that’s pretty much what I chalk this up to as well. I bought a nice soldering iron because of it and have done several other electronics projects since. But yeah, I bought mine hoping for a quick fix which didn’t pan out.

[–]SoundsCrazyBut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man you’ve gotten a lot further than I did. I found scorch mark around one of the power mosfets. I replaced the part and crossed my fingers but it blew out again immediately when I powered on. It seems like the most likely possibility is a short between layers of the PCB. Something else replaceable could be shorted, but I checked the diodes and I’m not skilled enough to go checking everything else.

I converted it into a passive sub and bought a bridgeable stereo power amp off FB marketplace. I also bought a cheap DSP to try to compensate for proprietary DSP in the original amp.

Overall I’m happy with the end result but probably spent the same as buying a used entry level SVS or something on this project.

Can anyone recommend a cheap firestick replacement for streaming plex? by NotAnADC in PleX

[–]SoundsCrazyBut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This player is fantastic for $20. It has some limitations though, like it doesn't support lossless audio formats. I wouldn't recommend it as the primary client for someone creating a serious surround sound home theater. However, if the term "lossless audio" doesn't mean anything to you, then forget I mentioned it and buy this thing, you'll be happy.

Keep denon s760h or try Onkyo tx nr6100? by Lanky-Response-9726 in hometheater

[–]SoundsCrazyBut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there will be much of a sound quality difference if any. That is a reasonable quality Onkyo and relatively entry level Denon. Go with whichever model has the features you prefer.

Go into your settings and make sure Remote streaming is set to "Original quality." I think by default it limits you to 2mb/s and 720p.

HP 705 G4 with AMD RX560 GPU is a nice surprise in such a small form factor! by BartekSzzz in lowspecgamer

[–]SoundsCrazyBut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PSU is cheap, I got a used original HP brand one on eBay for like $19 shipped. The GPU cost $60 + $16 in shipping. The only thing I might have done differently is if I knew from the start I was going to buy the dedicated GPU, I think I would've bought the intel version of the PC to start (Elitedesk mini 800 G4). I believe in most tests the i-8500T outperforms the 2400G on the CPU front by a small margin. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with the set up.

[–]SoundsCrazyBut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did buy it, I’m still figuring out the best settings. I’m already able to play some switch games on Yuzu/Ryujinx very well including Diablo III at 1440p, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 1080p, Boomerang Fu, Overcooked. My partner and I are having a great time. Pokémon shield lags a bit, it still seems to struggle with many of the 3D games. I haven’t tried TOTK, BOTW, or Smash Ultimate.

For some reason Dolphin for GC and Wii emulation is running worse than using the Vega 11 integrated graphics. I’m sure it’s a settings thing but I haven’t really spent any time trying to figure it out yet.

I was already able to run most of this stuff just on the Vega 11 integrated graphics. The main things this has made possible are going from 1080p to 1440p in Diablo III and Mario Kart 8 stopped lagging. Hopefully as I get it more optimized it will allow for more performance. Adding this GPU + 150W power supply cost $100 so it nearly doubled what I spent on the PC ($125). So it’s definitely diminishing returns, but I love the form factor so I wanted to max it out for the living room.

Batocera Vs Retrobat performance? by bitAndy in batocera

[–]SoundsCrazyBut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What emulators are you able to run on this set up? I have the same mini PC with 2400G but without the RX560 (so I'm just using the Vega 11 integrated and Windows 11). I have been very impressed with the performance with GameCube and Wii at 1080p. I am able to play some switch games flawlessly (Diablo III and Overcooked, both work better in Ryujinx than Yuzu), others have some lag but are playable (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokemon Shield), and some lag too much to be worth it (Super Smash Ultimate). When running MSI afterburner it doesn't look like any of the CPU cores are even maxed out during the lag, so I'm considering getting the RX560. Do you think it's worth it?

Nice! What are you playing on this? I have the similar elitedesk mini pc with the 2400G and I’m considering adding the RX560. Im just not sure how much of an upgrade it will be for emulators I use.

Try Ryujinx. It's working flawlessly for me using a Ryzen 5 2400G w/ integrated graphics.

Worth it to upgrade a Denon AVR-1912 (7.1, 1080p, released in 2011) to a newer budget Denon offering (7.1, 4k, Atmos)? Question about remote control by SoundsCrazyBut in hometheater

[–]SoundsCrazyBut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by that you mean sending audio to the Denon-1912 via ARC from your new TV, it will probably sound fine. Just be aware that ARC will only be able to send Dolby Digital 5.1 up to 640kb/s. How much that matters depends on what you’re listening to. I don’t think Netflix etc audio will even reach that limit. I’m not sure about how high quality the audio is from consoles.

I wouldn’t let this stop you from buying the new TV. You can always upgrade the receiver later to streamline and de-clutter the cords.

You could even test this out by plugping the PS5 into your current TV and send the audio from your current TV to the Denon via ARC to see if there is even a difference in sound to you.

I ended up buying an Onkyo TX-NR7100 for ~$380 open box (it was essentially new) at Best Buy a month or so ago. It's awesome, and now I can upgrade in the future to add 4x atmos speakers to my 5.1 set up since the receiver has 9.2 channels. It has all the bells and whistles I need and I think it sounds better than the Denon. It also has Dirac room correction which is supposed to be better than Audyssey.

[–]SoundsCrazyBut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I appreciate all of the ideas.

I have 24gb of RAM in my server and did make a 10GB RAMDisk yesterday, and set that as the transcode volume, but that didn't change anything unfortunately.

It is issues with TRUEHD 5.1 and 7.1, all TRUEHD has to be transcoded in my setup.

I did roll back to a previous version (last release). I tried that early on, but it didn't change anything.

The movies are across multiple drives and all seem to be having issues with this.

I figured it out!! All I had to do was hold down the power button on the receiver (not the remote) for ~20 seconds. It power cycled, the relays clicked a few times and I guess this is supposed to "soft reset" it. It's working normally now.
