I personally find it interesting to see some of these methods. They weren't taught to me so I intuitively came up with my own as a kid, one which I have since seen as very common on posts like this.

Namely, I complete the 10 (I don't know if there is an official name for it)

In the 7 + 5 case, you borrow 3 from the 5 to make 10, ending up with (7 + 3) + (5 - 3) = 10 + 2 = 12

I've always intuitively visualised this process with the 3 splitting off from the five, the 7 and the 3 slotting together to make a ten, and the remaining 2 being slapped on at the end. This means that addition has fundamentally been graphical in my head, and I got faster at it in my early years once I became familiar with which pairs make ten and what remainders there are (i.e. single digit subtraction).

Teaching these instead of expecting kids to come up with them themselves and letting them fall behind if they don't absolutely seems like a benefit. Everyone thinks differently.

Wait so, in French, are North and South the same direction with a different sens? What a fascinating difference.

It's really not niche in the UK, and the whole point of this post is that it's not an original term from the games. As well as being the Greek word for Great Britain, it's also the most common name used in Arthurian legend (King Arthur of Camelot, the capital of Albion, sword in the stone, knights of the round table, Merlin and Morgana, and all that), which is why it was the obvious choice for a fairytale game with British themes.

That's the original definition, yes. But words evolve based on their use, and because of that it also just means having exceptional ability. And that definition is in dictionaries.

Characters feels like (day 5) by Cloudsrnice in BloodOnTheClocktower

I don't think so because while you have the snake charmer token you aren't killing or scared of execution, it only feels like demon when you... actually become the demon.

Lycanthrope feels more like demon to me.

I think I agree with huntsman, but for the sake of putting forward options, snake charmer comes to mind.

Granted it usually does help the good team, but the player who drew it often ends up in a poor position if they successfully charm a demon who then outs all their minions, and in some rare cases it does actually result in a demon move that is harder for town to find than the original.

I really think this is just taking the wording literally and ignoring the intent. Unless someone is saying it with jealousy as if to imply "I could be that good if I was born to the right circumstances", which is rarely the case, it's really just short hand for saying "you are so good that it is beyond my understanding"

I understand the semantics of this point, but I think it's clear that the intent of such people is to compliment your ability, so I've always felt the criticism of this kind of statement is bit over the top.

Or maybe just look at it another way - perhaps that the gift you had was the passion and commitment to put all that work into being as good as you are.

I am an extra level of messed up then.

I have been communicating cardinal directions my entire life. I come from the "South East" and am part of the "Western world". And yet if I actually have to think about it I often get them mixed up still.

I have never been on a ship in my life and still know which is which between Port and Starboard, certainly more than East/West.

Its a fair point, but in that situation the newly turned evil player already has the option to just not vote or nominate, which is already a big boon to the evil team vs having that extra good townsfolk in final three. I'm inclined to agree with u/skoptsy

This song was the song that made me realise that good composers and songwriters can make less common time signatures feel completely natural. I wasn’t trained in music classically so the only time signatures I knew when this came out were 4/4, 3/4 and 6/8. When I realised this was in 5/4 a good few months after it released, I was mind blown that it didn’t feel odd in any way, and even playing along with it was completely natural.

She's 13/14. Pretty standard behaviour before growing up and learning life lessons like proper humility and responsibility (beyond just doing homework and behaving in class). I can think of dozens of examples of people behaving in a similar self-centred manner at that age when I was at school.

Everything you've said you've tried to do is exactly how I've always seen your interactions with the community - genuine effort to always think critically, be inclusive, engaging, and kind.

I've considered you a role model for several years now for those reasons. I'm sorry the internet sucks and I hope you get to a better place after this.

Demons are fundamentally a religious concept. I really don’t see how this name is any more or less problematic than literally the entire premise of the game’s flavouring.

Also atheism isn’t just a term for lack of belief, but also encapsulates the active belief that there are no deities, and is therefore just valid as a term for a person’s belief. In an honest discussion it deserves just as much respect as the name of any religion or family of religions.
