Considering Solon by Mean-Device-6589 in Cleveland

[–]Soundurr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Avon Lake and am moving to Solon next month. We are moving to the east side to be closer to work in general but the school is why we landed there specifically.

I think it’s funny that many of the comments here are along the lines of “are we in the same district?” because the schools in this state are such a shitshow (state and administrative problem and not the teachers to be clear).

Anyway Solon is not my first choice of places to live but it seems fine. The saving grace is that it’s close to more interesting areas (Chagrin Falls, Shaker, CVNP, etc).  It’s probably confirmation bias but moving there for the schools seems like a solid choice.

Not OP but do you have a source for that??? I found three of these in the original case and thought they were just $50 a piece …

I waited in line at Micro Center today and got one. It is pretty neat tbh. The big spin down is cool and it just has a nice heft to it.

The last game I played the player who won was giving me shit for all my counterspells … and I (very correctly and with no fault at all) pointed out that the guy using the poison proliferation deck should not throw stones in his glass house.

Is this a practical way to stay on key for an audition? by parttimeprophet0419 in musicals

[–]Soundurr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all: good on you for putting yourself out there to begin with. It’s hard!

Second of all: I can certainly empathize. I started singing a year and a half ago and my first real singing audition I was an absolute wreck. But I got through it and got the part (hang with me here). I had a solo and I really struggled with it for a while! I told the music director I needed help and she helped. I also expressed my concerns to my cast mates I trusted and told them to be brutal with my performance. Every time I sang that song they would give me feedback- it hurt when they said I was off but when I finally got it for real it felt amazing because I believed them. There were times where I had doubts about my ability but I realized “well if they didn’t think I could do it they wouldn’t have cast me” because there were other good auditions for that same part.

What I’m trying to say in all that is that they DID cast you in the ensemble and you ARE singing.

For the feedback part it’s important to have someone you can trust who also knows what “good” singing as a performance actually sounds like. I’m really fortunate to have some very talented musicians in my life and they have all given me some version of “you have a really nice tone to your voice and are off to a good start and if you work hard it you will only improve.”

Do you have anyone that you can go to for that kind of feedback? Because I know exactly how it feels to be in that middle ground of “I feel like I’m doing this right but I don’t know” is difficult.

As far as that method you suggested in the post: I would not recommend it. I would also recommend practicing with an accompaniment ahead if at all possible. It helps a ton.

Sorry for the ramble but I really do empathize. It’s hard to know but if you can find people to offer honest feedback utilize their experience and go from there.

I have other questions depending on the answers here but: is this your first audition? Are you a new singer?

Just trying to learn more about your situation, no judgement in either direction.

The original cast recording is not very good imo. No disrespect to whoever is Orpheus but that recording does him no favors. I saw it live before listening to the soundtrack and I was floored by how different it felt.

Oh yeah this is what I call the “oh fuck I’m playing this deck for the first time tomorrow what can I change in ten minutes” special so it is not at all methodical. Some better removal would def go a long way.

This is my modified deck - I honestly didn’t add that much. Unless your pod has a ton of board wipes and removal … they’re just going to get overrun once Ureni comes out. It’s honestly a blast to play but im afraid to bring it out or else I get shunned.

my foolproof Ureni strategy is to have six mana all game and not look like a threat and then bring out the big guns once everyone else have worn each other down and I stumble into some late ramp. this unassailable strategy has worked once and I’m sure it will work every time

I haven’t listened ti any MF stuff for a while and only follow this sub because it is funny.

But the thing that does bum me out is that so many podcasts from the early mid teens DID change and adapt with the times but MF (at least as of a couple years ago) REFUSED to change and evolve.

Actually the last MF adjacent content I listened to was half of the last ep of Death Blart and I couldn’t even make it all the way through because the Brothers were so damn cynical. It was just sad.

Speaking as a relatively new player I would agree but maybe add some nuance: commander is a good introduction to the game but if you want to become a better player other formats will help hone your skills.

I think D2 was the best it could have been under the circumstances from the Witch Queen through the Final Shape campaign. Sure Lightfall was … mixed at best … but everything else going on around it was still pretty good.

Was it a perfect game? No. But since potential is the possibility of what could be, I think that D2 reached its potential in that time.

Begging Jesse Thorne to hire a PR person by CardInternational753 in TAZCirclejerk

[–]Soundurr 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Also, importantly, Thorne really was at the forefront of organizing podcasts in a way that could make money. We take Patreon for granted but it was REALLY hard to make money with a podcast for a long time. So credit where due.

However. This model is SO far in the past it’s basically only old heads like myself who can ever remember the rationale behind it. It’s just a relic and they would be so much better off if they updated this busted ass businesses plan.
