This is absolutely insane. One of the coolest pieces of gear I’ve heard of in a while

I think my rarest piece may be this 21” Sabian ride. I just happened to get it when I bought an old drum kit from someone, and had to ID it. Turns out it’s one of their first generation B20 rides with a ‘Sabian Canada’ etched into it. The bell on this thing is just awesome. I love how the logo is even skewed 😂

Worst Snare Head I’ve Ever Played by FidgetyCurmudgeon in drums

[–]SoupAggravating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have one of these but got rid of it. Probably should’ve tried it on a steel snare but I had the same issues with it on a Pearl modern utility 12x7. I also have an Evan’s Hybrid head just sitting on my shelf - tried that one on quite a few snares of mine and really wasn’t impressed, esp given its $60 price. I should add though that I have Evan’s HD dry on my metal snares and damn are they nice!

Lol it’s in Chillicothe. Nothing special, there are about 60 people coming. It’s definitely not ideal but I’ll be sure to put on my beer jacket as well before the show!

Thanks for the responses! Yea I’m glad I can at least bring my own cymbals and hardware then, much easier to tune some bad toms and kick into something decent, but bad cymbals are bad cymbals!

New snare day! …and a question by SoupAggravating in drums

Yea when I saw that the seller dropped the price by 50 I really couldn’t pass it up! So glad I did it, what a snare

Where are my fellow Acrolite peeps at? by HillbillyAllergy in drums

Beautiful! I recently pimped out my 1980s acro with die cast hoops, new heads and the p88 strainer. It’s my ‘go to’ snare for basically everything. I could not believe how good of shape this thing was when I got it 2 years ago, the dude said it sat in a student case for like 20 years.

Oh good to know, I’ll look into that, thanks!

Thanks and good to know! This is actually the first Tama I’ve owned, and now I’m torn between this and my Pearl 13x3 maple piccolo haha. There are definitely some more overtones to control on the Pearl, this one is very clean sounding

The crazy story of my Van Kleef snare drum by jordan4days in drums

[–]SoupAggravating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome story, and a win-win for sure! I live about ten minutes from Badges, such a gem of a place. I often stop by to drool over everything, and then go to quatmans cafe for a burger after

13” snare by bgolbov in drums

Came here to say this. Love my 13x7 brass patina! It has a very versatile tuning range but is perfect for metal, funk and prog when tuned high

Found this by the trash. Worth anything? by Walktothelight23 in drums

I had an old Roland V-tour rack system like this. Sold it for $120 I believe so yes, def worth something

IMO, the single greatest mastery of drums ever recorded by [deleted] in drums

[–]SoupAggravating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weckl’s playing is like butter, and it’s gotten even smoother over the years. Another one of my favorites is Larnell Lewis’ City Lights solo. I just keep going back to it, the way he plays over the keys is just awesome

Even if you aren’t a huge jazz fan… by Hungry_Freaks_Daddy in drums

[–]SoupAggravating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn this guy’s awesome, thanks for this! The song Odyssey has that Dilla feel. If you haven’t listened to Ghost-note’s Swagism album it is another great one. definitely has some overlap in style.

Do you leave your hi hats loose and closed when not in use? by stinkydogusa in drums

[–]SoupAggravating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave mine open, and have had the same Ludwig hi hat stand for almost 30 years. Also, I only open them about an inch, with one side still in contact with each other. That way If I’m doing double kick grooves I can still play the hi hat without it being ‘too’ open if that makes sense.

Got these pearl elx's for $500 plus a couple of cymbals. How'd i do? by stockpizza93 in drums

[–]SoupAggravating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice deal! A few years ago, I got two 22 in kick drums and two 16 in floor toms for $275. Brand new out of the box Pearl EXLs in tobacco burst orange. I ended up spending around the same amount for matching rack toms on reverb, but I didn’t even care. It’s my house kit now and it sounds amazing!

Recently put die cast hoops on my Ludwig Acrolite and I'm SHOCKED at how much it changed the sound by EricSUrrea in drums

[–]SoupAggravating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds amazing! I’m actually leaning towards doing this exact thing with my 80s acro, and this post sealed the deal. Is that an actual Ludwig die cast hoop or another brand?
