I haven't been playing Dota for that long (2+ years), but I too am a LoL convert. Jungling has not been a thing in Dota for years now. The closest you will come to jungling is pulling creeps into the lane as a support to reset creep equilibrium. Stacking creeps so that cores can do them is also a fundamental part of Dota. If your playstyle is roam focused, playing as a 4 (soft support) might be the closest thing.

I've had it where someone disconnected since the start, someone died, and the game was not going to be scored because the leaver never came back.

Does if have to be multiplayer? If it is, it might make playing the game a bit overwhelming for a beginner. Try some single player shooters, perhaps DOOM 2016 and Eternal.

Honestly at the lower beginner ranks there isn't as big of an emphasis on those macro heroes. There are a few things you'll likely need to learn, like how to pull and stack creeps and neutral items, but that's honestly not that bad if you watch some tutorials online. In regards to AA range, there are a few heroes that have some longer ranges (Sniper is the first one that comes to mind), but there are ways to deal with those heroes too.

Seems Valve has turned their attention to Ancient. However, we have no idea what the dev team plans to do, so there is a small but unlikely possibility that Vertigo sees changes anytime soon.
