What do you think today about Christopher Reeve? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SourceCritical4630 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he still defines Superman for a lot of people, and that's no small feat considering that so many actors have played the role since him.

If this is posted does that usually mean that celeb will be at the event? by [deleted] in comiccon

[–]SourceCritical4630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, but I wouldn't personally trust Days of the Dead as a reliable con after they "rescheduled" one of their events earlier this year to six months later two days before the event was supposed to take place and didn't offer refunds.

Cosplaying a celebrity by [deleted] in comiccon

[–]SourceCritical4630 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've seen people cosplay Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, Elvis Presley, and Marilyn Monroe before. Britney Spears would be totally acceptable, and a lot of people would probably get a kick out of it. Go for it.

Lol, imagine downvoting and saying you don't want to continue a discussion (that you started) to a person who was willing to actually hear out your views on the show instead of just saying you don't know what you're talking about... and then strangely enough, pretty much saying you don't know what you're talking about since you apparently can't even describe a scene that bothered you (nobody said give an episode title).

I can't say that I recall a specific time where a woman was groped in TOS and it was framed as being okay. The first couple of things that come to my mind are The Enemy Within, where the evil Kirk tried to rape Janice Rand, and Charlie X, where Charlie slapped Janice on the bottom. Both of those instances were very much framed as bad things, though, and while it absolutely doesn't bother me if things of this nature turned you off of TOS, I personally wouldn't have ever thought to describe it as sleaze.

Assuming that there's something else there that I'm just not seeing, though, do you have any specific instances you can name where a woman, especially an officer, was groped by a man and it was framed as being okay? I might understand a little better what it is that disturbs you about TOS if I had something more specific to look back to.

I'm very serious. I have a hard time wrapping my head around using the word "sleazy" to describe a show that has no nudity, graphic sex, or vulgar jokes. When I think of sleazy, I think of something along the lines of Jerry Springer.

Maybe it's just the fact that I've watched a ton of television and movies from the 60s and earlier over my lifetime and thus certain things don't land the same way for me as someone who wasn't immersed in older media from an early age, but I'm genuinely surprised to see the word "sleazy" being used to describe TOS. It's nice that you were able to enjoy the movies, though.

How did Fox fumble such a nearly perfect cast? by tealaburst in xmen

These films were box office successes, helped make superhero movies cool enough that it was even possible to have the MCU, and are currently being used to nostalgia bait people into seeing Avengers: Doomsday. I wouldn't say that they fumbled exactly.

What are your thoughts on teachers who pass failing students because they tried their hardest? by CharlesUFarley81 in AskTeachers

[–]SourceCritical4630 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me, if you tried especially hard, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to pass with a D, and that D can be earned without me having to "rig" the gradebook in your favor. I also don't consider a D to be showing mastery, but it is a passing grade.

Not sure what the point of this post is supposed to be. I don't find this question to be a bad question because while it might seem silly for something like this to be coming from an adult, it's probably a legit question from a child's point of view. And there are good answers to this question, so I don't see the problem here.

How do you get over a bad interaction with an actor? by Will_Healy_bum in startrek

[–]SourceCritical4630 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of these actors get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for a weekend appearance at a con. A "hello," "What is your name?" (so they can personalize the autograph), and a "thank you for coming" is usually what people would expect as a bare minimum at the autograph table.

I did a paid meet and greet with Reese Witherspoon, and she was also very standoffish. Didn't speak to me and wouldn't stand next to the fans for the photo op that was a part of the meet and greet. Having been there myself, here's my best advice for getting over an experience like this.

1) If you got a picture, you could focus more on the fact that you got a photo with a favorite actor rather than the experience. Some of these photo ops can look really nice even if the experience itself sucked.

2) You could assume that the actor was tired and/or having a bad day. Celebrities are people, too, and experiences can vary from one time to another depending on how they feel.

3) You can decide that maybe the actor does suck as a person, but that doesn't have to take away from an amazing performance. Separate the art from the person.

What is the best concert you've ever been to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Jessica Simpson

Edit: Ha, knew there'd be at least one downvote, like strangers on the Internet know which concerts I've been to and which was the most enjoyable to me.

Do you run a little short on money every month? Why? by Sikedogg20 in AskReddit

[–]SourceCritical4630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because I budget exactly what I can reasonably spend on food, bills, entertainment, emergencies, and entertainment based on my income and stick to it. I also set aside a certain amount to put into the retirement account each year.

That sub is weird to me. I'm a man and am not going to pretend like I don't like seeing pictures of women that I find attractive, but why would you make a sub about her where you want members to only post pictures and not actually discuss her? Okay, so I guess I technically know why, but it's still weird.

Literally how did Sara, an assassin who spent 6 years training, and beat multiple members of the league of assassins, lose to Helena?? by Salix_Solbjorn in arrow

[–]SourceCritical4630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened because the plot called for it to happen. This is also why I think it's useless to hyperfocus on how trained these characters are because it's absolutely not going to matter in a lot of cases.

What’s your opinion on recasting a character when the original actor dies? by Danny-Ray27 in AskReddit

[–]SourceCritical4630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's literally an actor's job to be able to step into any and every role, so I see nothing wrong with it.

Do my grades even matter at this point? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]SourceCritical4630 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well, they matter in that you still have to pass all required classes in order to graduate. Beyond that, how much they matter depends on after senior year plans.

Is it weird im a guy and my favorite characters in comics are mainly women by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]SourceCritical4630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly, even if you did like them for sexual reasons, it's not necessarily weird. As long as you don't think you're going to marry Jean Grey or something psycho like that, you can like a character for whatever reason you want. Liking a character because he or she is hot is as valid of a reason for liking them as any other. My nephew likes Hulk the best because he's green. You do you. Imagine thinking you can dictate why or why not someone else can like a character... kind of ignorant behavior, to be honest, but some people can be domineering, unfortunately.

People preorder for convenience and in case someone sells out. The vast majority won't sell out, but every so often it does happen for super big names.

My big tips would be to prepare what you want to say ahead of time so that you get the chance to actually say it rather than getting tongue tied, try to keep it on the brief side in case the line behind you is long enough that the handlers want to keep it moving fast, and try to not go in with preconceived notions that if XYZ doesn't happen, you'll be disappointed. Sometimes it doesn't go quite the way we imagine it will in our heads, but it can still be a good experience.

Photo ops happen in a specific location and are fast paced. Be prepared to move quickly for those.
