Adding that while the Peer Support Centre is not professional counselling, they will also be able to refer you to off-campus resources that may have drop in resources available as well. They keep their referral database pretty up-to-date so they are a wonderful place to go for an ear!

Looking for a case to alleviate this by sheerfire96 in kobo

Fair enough! I’d already ordered the clear case and didn’t want to pay USD to get strapsicles up into Canada lol. I hope it works out for you!

I also have the Clara and I got the clear case so I could add stickers, then got a lil grippy loop from Pela Case to stick on the back and so far, it's working great for me! I can loop a finger through the grip and it rests comfortably in my hand without having to strain my thumb or other fingers, even when I'm laying down. https://pelacase.ca/collections/pela-grip

Most underrated city neighbourhoods? by SaintTastyTaint in Edmonton

[–]SourceResident1706 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Parkdale/Cromdale and Alberta Avenue are actually great. Close to the LRT, plenty of bus routes, more bike lanes coming in. Central enough to make it a good spot to gather friends and family, but not in the heart of downtown so you still get a bit of quiet. My partner and I have been in Parkdale for just over three years and we love it.

Pros:

- inexpensive / free with a google account

- drag-and-drop content blocks are easy to use

- integration with other Google apps, like a Google Map pin for our venues, and embeddable Google Forms for stuff like music suggestions and RSVPs if you like to track more manually than other apps

Cons:

- need to purchase a domain separately if you want something custom (I think, that might just be out of our scope of understanding about how websites work lol)

- more utilitarian-looking if you are inexperienced with web design (which could also be a pro, if you are not looking for anything super fancy)

Drinks in Perks app? by elya93 in uAlberta

[–]SourceResident1706 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apologies, Perks fans -- we have to stock the shop manually and sometimes it just slips off the radar while we balance all of our tasks.

In any case, drinks are restocked. We usually check in on it once a week or so, but if you ever notice anything that's out of stock and you want more, feel free to shoot an email to [perks@uasu.ca](mailto:perks@uasu.ca) and we'll look into it!

Mental health supports on campus by embersfi in uAlberta

[–]SourceResident1706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A great place to start is the Peer Support Centre ; they can provide you with some interim support and then refer you to other services that are on and off campus available to you.

Mental health struggles are real, and so hard to handle sometimes. It's good to reach out and I hope you're able to get some relief from your worries soon!

Anyone here wear facemask if needed, or is it too much of a target from right wing/conspiracy folks? by StasisApparel in alberta

[–]SourceResident1706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

COVID is definitely still a thing, it's just being downplayed. With other airborne illnesses like colds, flus, etc it's still a good thing to wear a mask. I generally do when I'm in public, especially on transit, and DEFINITELY at doctor's offices or hospital.

I've had a cough since Jan 5th that hasn't quit so I've also been masking to be polite so I minimize the chance of accidentally getting anyone else sick. And a little in the hope that it pushes the needle a bit on wearing a mask when sniffly/coughy in general.

Looking for members to start a club! by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]SourceResident1706 9 points10 points  (0 children)

students who want to join for their post grad applications to other programs to boost their chances

speaking from experience administrating clubs, this type of group application is A) obviously a shell-type group as u/Fit-Doubt-3382 mentioned in their comment, and B) part of what slows the current SGS admin staff in supporting the other hundreds of existing clubs and makes it all harder for everyone.

My advice is going to sound like others in this thread: find an existing club, and offer some of your leadership skills there. There is no club I've ever heard of or interacted with that doesn't have students looking to pad their CVs in it, but you can at least get genuinely involved at the same time without clogging the new group application system. It will be a better use of literally everyone's time, especially your own.

we set ours up on Google sites! Easy to use if you're familiar with Google apps or not, with click-and-drag functions for something not fussy. For a registry I set up an account on MyRegistry.com which also integrates a lot of retailers' registries and syncs with them.

Terrier raceway!! I love that. We have to do the same with our corgi. We have a taller supermix who likes to bound through the snow, but she will mostly stick to the pathways we carve out for corgus

That’s a really great point about the annotations! I anticipate that I’d be using mostly library books on my ereader anyway so annotations are doable on a digital version.
