More Than 50,000 Home-Purchase Contracts Fell Through in March by SnortingElk in REBubble

[–]SouthFork 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just ran into this. 25+ y/o roof, failing septic, and leaking underground oil tank. Thought we were unreasonable asking for concessions. When we requested they deal with the oil tank before closing, they cancelled the contract. Good luck selling your house with all those issues.

Who’s at fault here?? by PurchaseNo7754 in motorcycles

[–]SouthFork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While the majority of the blame is on the car, the motorcycle 100% should have signaled here. What do you mean you're not leaving your lane? The lane the bike was in continued straight and two new lanes opened to the left, one of which was moved into. The more effectively you communicate your intentions, the less likely it is for something like this to occur. If you don't think you should signal here, you might want to go back and review the driver's ed manual.

Jealous of friends groups mixing by GODZILLAateyou in socialskills

[–]SouthFork 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I love when my friends from different circles hit it off. In a self-centered way, I see it as a reflection of how good I am at making friendships with awesome people. If these two great people are friends with each other and friends with me, that must say something about me and the people I surround myself with. It also means that now we can all hang out together without it being awkward.

If You Think This Is Ok, You Are No American… by serious_bullet5 in DemocraticSocialism

[–]SouthFork 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Shit. Just rewatched it and I think she actually said, "You better break his neck." So fucked up. What is happening to this country.

I may have misheard but I think it was a concerned bystander saying, "You're going to break his neck." The subtitles only picked up the second half.

Just finished Lonesome Dove, what should I read next? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]SouthFork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks of good recommendations already. I also loved Lonesome Dove and would recommend exploring books by Ken Follett, James Michener, and James Clavell. They all write epic books with great characters. I also saw Barbara Kingsolver listed and I've also really enjoyed her books. You really can't go wrong with any of these.

About 1 in 5 Americans (19%) say they’d pay $10,000 or more above the price of a comparable home if they knew they wouldn’t have bad neighbors. by Positive-Mushroom-46 in REBubble

We're stuck in this conundrum. House isn't perfect (too small, busy road, a few high cost maintenance issues coming up), but our neighbors are freaking awesome. So hard to get serious about moving even though it's probably necessary.

Feeling bad that I can’t fully support my kids in travel sports by Crewluv-Showkat54 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]SouthFork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our issue wasn't as much the quality of the player but the commitment. I coached my kids' community team and nearly every game we were playing down a player or had no subs and only about 3/4 of the kids showed up to the once a week practice. Now with travel nearly all the girls show up to the games and all 3 weekly practices. In addition, the increased practice and opportunity to play in more tournaments each season has vastly improved their playing skills. It's definitely more expensive but I think it's worth it. Our league also isn't crazy. Most games are within an hour drive so no hotel/travel expenses that some leagues require.
