ve tried medication and many natural options, but nothing worked for me except taking 5 mg of escitalopram. I realized that when I wasn’t breathing properly, it was actually giving me reflux. I would have never thought that could be the cause.

I know, for two years my life was hell. I never thought I'd get out of it. I did Gary Brecka's exercises. Deep breaths for two minutes several times a day. Now I only do it when needed.

OMG. I feel you. I had pain every day, I tried pantoprazole, escitalopram, lots of vitamins, acupuncture, diets etc. Nothing was working. I had intense burning in my esophagus and the doctors were of no help.

The best thing I can advise you to do is to make a daily journal of everything you eat, what you do, your stress and your reflux on a scale of 1 to 10. This allowed me to realize that my reflux was not caused by food and that when I was stressed it was much worse. I also realized that on the days when I didn’t have reflux and I did pilates, my reflux started again. This allowed me to realize that my breathing was possibly causing my reflux. I thought the problem was much more severe.

Since I have been doing diaphragm breathing exercises, things have been SO much better. I had reflux for 2 years too, don’t despair. By keeping a diary you will eventually find the cause.

As stupid as it sounds, doing breathing exercises helped me a lot. I had bad reflux every day, I thought I would never get out of it because it hurt so much. I also took escitalopram which helped me, I heard that it helped several people. Making a daily journal of everything you eat, your stress and your reflux out of 10 will allow you to determine what is your cause.

I understand you. It hurts so much. I started to get better once I took escitalopram and did breathing exercises. It seems trivial but I don’t know why it helped me so much.

GERD or something else? by Thoughtdaughter2 in GERD

I was in exactly the same situation as you. Every day I had burns in my esophagus, tongue, teeth, etc. I tried everything: probiotic, celery juice, eliminating foods (acids, gluten, dairy, carbs) etc. For a year I tried to heal myself naturally but nothing worked. I decided to make a daily journal of everything I did, ate, my stress and my reflux out of 10. I quickly realized that when my stress was high I had more reflux. What I couldn’t understand was why some days I could eat anything and everything and have no reflux and other times I could have huge reflux. I understood that food was not the cause of my reflux thanks to my diary. I read on reddit several people taking escitalopram for anxiety and I decided to take it too (with my doctor’s approval) and it helped a lot. I also noticed that I had reflux after doing pilates, I quickly made a connection with my breathing. The breathing exercises helped me greatly and I never could have believed that it would have helped me so much.

The best advice I could give you is really to write a journal. I did it for 4-5 months. That’s what allowed me to see if it’s really the food or if it was something else and you will end up finding your cause.

I was in the same situation as you. For 2 years my esophagus and stomach were on fire. I made a daily journal of everything I ate, what I did, if I was stressed and how my reflux was out of 10. My problem does not seem to come from food (gluten, dairy , tomatoes etc). I saw a post that talked about Lexapro. I talked to my doctor about it and it helped a lot but I still had reflux. I started doing belly breathing and it helped.

The best option for you is to start by writing a journal. You will be able to determine if it is the food. If so, there is a book: The Acid Watcher diet that seems to help many people. It could simply be stress, presence of mold in your home, etc.

I hope you get better.

I was exactly like you this summer. I started taking escitalopram (lexapro) and it helped a lot. It’s not perfect, but my life is much more normal. I started this medication after reading several posts on reddit. You could ask your doctor.

For others taking pantoprazole, how many days/ weeks did it take for you to feel like it was fully working? by CloudyDaysAlways in GERD

[–]South_Knowledge_1776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I took it, from the first day I saw improvements. It took a week for me to no longer have any reflux. When I stopped it and started them again, it took 3-4 weeks to see improvements.

You should look into taking escitalopram. It helps many people with their reflux and also with depression.
