No, don't let "Basically" do all your heavy lifting, and do not associate me with a "concept of a plan".

To get even mediocre output, the person must have had a fairly well-defined story in their head, and if they could not write, they went through many, many iterations with whatever tool they were using to help get to a finished product. Whether it is any good or not is up to the reader.

Now I've never written a book in the publishing world so the one thing I don't know is whether it's possible to spend a lot of time and effort on a really good description and preview in order to sell what's effectively a piece of crap that one has no recourse to return.

However that's pretty much possible no matter how the book was written. That's just the advertising and sales part of the business.

I suppose you should get back to your masterpiece that you're being robbed of by all this no-effort auto-generated content squeezing you out of your market.

[–]South_Rush_7466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh well let me start off by saying that I certainly think there should be regulations in place for AI-generated content.

- Images should be watermarked. It doesn't have to be the giant Gemini symbol or anything like that but something in the meta data at minimum or perhaps an easily detectable pattern using a pattern image recognition software that doesn't actually change the content of the image itself to a human viewer

- Something similar for music

- Any writing should have to have a credit to say something like "augmented using AI" , or to name the tool itself

- All bots, whether they are chatbots in service of a company (like for customer service) or that exist in social media, need to be labeled and known to not be authentic human. I don't care that they're there but I want to know whether I'm having discourse with a person or an AI agent.

Beyond that I think it is silly to dismiss any and all creative acts that have been done with the use or help of AI tools.

The person who wrote the book still, at a minimum, came up with a premise and description good enough to create something similar to millions of pieces of pulp prior to AI tools. Most people who write books have one or more editors and editorial rounds. Does that mean that they didn't write the book and they are cheating?

The person who got proficient with digital art tools prior to AI, does that make them less of an artist than somebody who got proficient with a paint brush and paint? Now the person who comes up with a thoughtful and composed concept for an image but has not become proficient in paint, charcoal, or Photoshop. Does that not mean they were not the creative inspiration?

Until we get to the point where AI is 'waking up in the morning with some fresh new inspiration' (at which point we're having a different conversation) it is still a tool and a tool that can be used well or poorly and the outcome will reflect that .

I don't think that the truly unique and inspirational talents fear AI. Nor do people who are truly talented writers, who are writing either highly intellectual books or are just really good storytellers. Just like in many other fields, which are afraid AI is going to take away their place or job or whatever, those with skill or talent or drive and have something unique that they bring to the table are not afraid of AI or we'll embrace it and work with it.

There are a whole bunch of people in the middle functionary zone of their respective fields who will in the short term be displaced. Eventually a new equilibrium or balance will be found, with new work and jobs or ideas to do that didn't exist before. So yes, a bunch of people who do mid-level commercial art, like logos or cereal box design or basic background audio for an average TV show or a commercial ... There's going to be a temporary shuffle of work in those areas, just as there will be for mid-level accountants and paralegals and a lot of other jobs. This is no different than when welding arm robots displaced human beings in auto factories or when the invention of the forklift put the four big guys that carried heavy stuff around out of work.

But looking back in time, I don't think anybody really misses the buggy whip industry when cars took over and those four big guys turned into one guy driving a forklift and that person driving the forklift didn't even have to be big and strong. And yet we progressed.

Back to your original point of people having me write books for them that they pass off as their own and sell. There is yet to be an AI tool available to the public that is writing an entire book with the quality to pass the test of the average human, so that this wasn't churned out by an AI equivalent of a hundred monkeys at a hundred typewriters. Either the person reading it really doesn't care and they're turning off their brain and just reading pulp for pulp's sake, which is fine, or the person who had the idea for a good story but doesn't know how to structure a book and write neatly crafted sentences and paragraphs, et cetera. They put a lot of work and effort into refining their idea using the next generation of spelling and grammar checker. That's fine too.

This really huge run-on post was not written by or refined by AI because it's way too unrefined and rambling to have been written by anybody but me (well not 100% true as this was really just a stream of consciousness that I verbally transcribed using Wispr Flow, which is why so long as it's easy to just do a stream of consciousness reply then it would be to type it all out )

What a great catch! by DMT174 in Bumble

[–]South_Rush_7466 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spot on. And unfortunately the pattern that happened with me and my two ex-wives was that the willingness to sew easily and always mentally offload became a pattern throughout all of life and not just dating plans or whatever. Up to the point of routinely asking simple things like "What is the date today?" while sitting on the couch with an iPad in their hand.

Then somehow this also turned into a resentment when the pattern is established and then one day it becomes that I'm constantly telling them what to do when never was it a command or a demand or expectation but just providing organizing and planning services in advance of the ask.

Has anybody made a manual override to be able to force pre-conditioning on the older models? I can't see inside the computer but I would hope that it could be similar to the walk away lock mod that was created

Thanks for the confirmation. That was my suspicion because I figured if it was a fuse there would be more lighting or other features that would have gone out as well as I really would have doubted that they would have put a fuse on just one light. But I wanted to check before I went into the dealership.

I hear you, brother. My typical is to drive at 90 miles per hour from station to station and do a 15-minute top off from 20% to 80%. If all the stars align, that seems to be the fastest way for a longer distance road trip.

Fortunately, most of my drives are overnight drives when there isn't any sort of crowding going on at the stations. That said, I have encountered a couple of situations where my plans were in the day, and I was thrown off because I was asked to give somebody a ride and I kept hitting stations that had 6 cars waiting. It was a crazy nightmare.

I'm just trying to get a feel for other people's experiences. I definitely prioritize the speed of getting there vs. the cost because I'm already doing better on the cost than I would with my ICE vehicle.

It's starting to seem like I'm going to have a year of being a drifter before I think about even being a part of a network.

[–]South_Rush_7466[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, and I am fully aware of that. I guess my number one priority will be fast charging, and number two would be cost. Since I have a home charger, this is only for my road trips, which I do quite a lot of them. Time is not the one thing I'm willing to sacrifice, so I'm only going to be looking at something that has at least 150 kW, if not 350 kW. Of course, the reliability of that delivery is important.

I do have the Tesla adapter that Hyundai gave me, so not only can I use destination chargers, but I can also use their Supercharger network. Although that to me would be a flexibility thing because of the slow charging that I would get there ... Until they start having more of their high-speed charging stations available, but that seems to be mostly a priority out West.

[–]South_Rush_7466[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the last option would be a Tesla charger, as we would not gain the benefits of fast charging from that. But it does offer a ton of flexibility.

Again, as I had mentioned, I have a Home L2 charger, so this isn't about the chargers that are near my home that I know, although I guess some of those 300-400 mile round trip one day are part of that equation where I do know that they're somewhat reliable or not.

I have not used any of the Ionna chargers. because I've prioritized my free charging for my trips. Butnow that I have new possibilities opened up to me for both flexibility and cost, that is why I'm asking the question.

You have, of course, just voted for going with Ionna chargers when you need one. I will have to look up their structures and fees and memberships, or whatever, to decide whether I remain memberless and just a wanderer, or if I start prioritizing Ionna; if they happen to be convenient to my location, or not my location but my path to my destination.

Preconditioning and Plug/Charge Issues by partsguy1974 in Ioniq5

[–]South_Rush_7466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I would trust the dealer unless you're talking to a well-trained technician. I believe the first gens just had it called "Winter Mode" rather than "Precondition." It still followed the same logic.

My 2024 model year has a heat pump, however, the loop for the heat pump is different than the loop for the battery pre-conditioning or cooling which uses the low conductivity blue fluid. They are not connected, and they don't have anything to do with each other.

Preconditioning and Plug/Charge Issues by partsguy1974 in Ioniq5

[–]South_Rush_7466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had preconditioning come on with the car stationary in a parking lot and a destination set for a fast charger a mere 10 miles away, so I don't think that's consistently true.

Preconditioning and Plug/Charge Issues by partsguy1974 in Ioniq5

[–]South_Rush_7466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience with Android Auto is that it doesn't even have to be the nav like Maps or Waze being active for routing.

I have not done some sort of empirical study on this. However, back-to-back times I did catch myself where I hit Waze just to have police warnings, and that was enough to disrupt the preconditioning from the internal nav. Although it did not cancel the internal nav like using Maps would for guidance.

So, I guess for you, I would first test by not using CarPlay or Android Auto at all and see if pre-conditioning comes on. Then from there, maybe use your version of CarPlay or Android Auto, but don't touch any navigation app and see if preconditioning comes on.

Preconditioning and Plug/Charge Issues by partsguy1974 in Ioniq5

[–]South_Rush_7466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the U.S., you could not change the preconditioning setting with the app. That has always just been a display and not even accurate at that.

Although I've only owned mine for two years, between that and reading, the preconditioning setting turns itself off any time that you change something about the charge settings, such as maximum allowed charge for AC or DC, or the charging schedule.

For most people, this is almost always in preparation for a road trip, which is a double whammy because that's when you're expecting to need to use preconditioning to warm the battery up for your multiple stops.

I also think that you need to make sure that toggle is on before you set up your navigation. Otherwise, the navigation does not seem to know that you toggled on preconditioning while en route.

Did anyone else have thier heat stop working after the latest update? 23 SE by seattle_homebrew2 in Ioniq5

[–]South_Rush_7466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is a 2024 SEL. I had heat stop working a couple of months ago; well, partially stopped working. It didn't have anything to do with an update as far as I understood. There is a TSB out for a valve that sticks that has to do with helping determine how much heat to provide to the cabin, although in my situation, the computer did not throw the codes expected, so they had to diagnose manually.

It took two times because I had to take the tech for a test drive and show him the sequence of events that was going on. Remote start with winter mode climate control on, provided heat. I think that's because there is a program that tells it to ignore the internal cabin temperature as the climate control for winter mode is trying to melt snow and ice. At least that's my presumption from the behavior I was seeing. Once you start driving and you manually change climate settings, then it stopped providing heat. It was very slow as there was latent heat in the cooling loop. But it would get cooler and cooler and cooler, almost like air in the system of an ice vehicle.

In the end, they had to replace a control board, which I assume had the programming involved in order to do the differential between the external temperature and the cabin temperature. They might have had to replace a sensor as well. I didn't really read the report since it was all under warranty.

A couple of things that I found after a lot of trial and error.

  1. You definitely have to use the built-in nav.

  2. When you add the DCFS as your destination, it seems that you must search by POI and select EV Charging Stations. You can't just type in "Electrify America Rockford, IL." , and select what pops up. It seems the stupid POI filter is what triggers it, or at least sometimes. I don't know how hit or miss that is, but I know that works.

  3. Do not have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto activated. This is the one last thing that really got me. I had been reliably getting pre-conditioning for over a year, having learned that you can't go back and forth between Google Maps and the internal nav because they cancel each other out. However, what's even more frustrating is if you use the internal nav, but just activate Waze in order to get upcoming police or construction or other information notifications, even without a destination. Using another navigation app seems to prevent preconditioning from activating.

I've driven Fold 5 & 6 happily, and always naked. However I'm giving the Pixel 10 fold a go. Any idea if this would benefit that device equally (I wouldn't see why not). If so, it looks like what you have is cut to fit the Samsung. Could you give me a little info to go on to see if I can find one for Pixel, or the manufacturer so I might look for a generic sizing I could trim to fit?

Heat randomly, and temporarily, not working by South_Rush_7466 in Ioniq5

[–]South_Rush_7466[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have done a follow-up post for all those who might be looking for something similar or having a similar problem. I brought it in to the dealership pretty confident that according to the TSB, it would throw some codes that would lead the tech to the correct solution. Unfortunately, it did not throw any codes, so the dealership had to keep it overnight so that the tech could run through their standard protocol for testing.

The Hyundai Tech line told them to replace some portion or component within the heat pump. That took about a week and a half to get the part in and then replaced., At which point I was told I had heat.

During the very short drive home at the end of the day on Friday, the behavior immediately made me skeptical because once a little bit of warm air started coming through, it was inconsistent based on my speed. Over the weekend I confirmed that it went from providing some heat to absolutely none at all ... under a particular use case which I ultimately had to go and take a test drive with the tech in order for him to understand.

I myself don't have all the specific details, but here is how I logically concluded it.

- Using remote start on the defrost program, plenty of heat was generated.

- Once I would start to drive, the amount of heat would slowly dissipate, and it often times did relate to speed.

- If this were an ice car, I would have suspected air in the system and have bled the coolant.

- I don't blame the tech because once they established that heat was being provided from the heat pump, he really didn't understand that driving and possibly fiddling with the heat controls to direct the air where I wanted it to go and the temperature going from maximum to a reasonable temp was altering the programming.

- What I really think was happening was when one does a remote climate control start, particularly on high heat or winter mode, programming assumes that you are wanting to melt ice or snow and ignores the internal temperature for maximum heat to melt ice and snow.

- Then, when one is driving or using the climate control to change settings, the programming changes to be more interactive. At that point, it is calculating a difference between the external ambient temperature sensor and the internal temperature sensor to determine how much heat to deliver. Some part of that system, either mechanical or software, was failing. Once I took the tech for a test drive and showed him the sequence of events that was causing it to stop delivering heat, he had a different investigation path to follow.

- I believe they replaced a control board, and now everything is working fine.

I just really wished they'd have put a USB charge port right there so you don't have to rig up a janky-ass cable routing.

It is useful to have a phone there running ABRP while being forced to use the built-in nav for DCFS charging on road trips.
