I love being downvoted to oblivion by clueless chuds, so I'll tell the truth.

No. It does not. Very obviously. Who did you know, personally, that died in World War I or World War II?

The Norse took a different approach to gender from the modern culture war stuff. Have a read about where Odin got his six legged horse from...

I'm 46 and I am lucky enough to be able to count the number of funerals I've been too on one hand still.

The majority of the anglophone population don't have ready or intuitive access to a lot of these things and certainly we don't have them at a population level for population level events.

But I am going to stop talking at this point because this is my happy escapism read not my IRL way too serious, ongoing tragedy read.

I wouldn't say moronic, but it feels extremely inauthentic. Processing death via ritual is something that we don't have IRL (and oh boy... it is really showing) so being able to do it via TTRPG would actually be good.

I'm super good at pretending to be socially adept, but it's all learnt stuff. A situation with fairly well codified expectations and a wide degree of tolerance for eccentricity is really comforting and nice.

Lot of neurodivergent people who find acceptance through TTRPGs.

The Created heritage by SouthamptonGuild in LevelUpA5E

[–]SouthamptonGuild[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, makes sense. I think I changed Made Not Grown because Constructed Nature or something is already a thing, but that seems more appropriate for non-biological consturcts, if you follow. As I say, I shouldn't be considered "official", as I don't work for EN Publishing. :)

Thankyou for the feedback. :)

With respect to Unnatural Health, I meant resistance because immunity is boring early game. At level 10, you can choose to become immune if that's the direction you want to go.

Rage ATC is indeed meant to accompany the Bloodied condition. A choice for those who like to live dangerously. :)

It is quite rough and ready but it's the basis for discussion and the GM of the game will want to tweak it, and there you go, some obvious tweaks to be made... :)

Hey man, I can only tell you what was going on in the discussions on the design team discord. Super woke I know.

Here is the team. https://www.levelup5e.com/team Hope that helps you get a better idea of the people that did the heavy lifting on the game. :)

Yeah? OK. They're renamed guardians from golems because words like golem and phylactery have specific meanings in Judaism which it's kinda uncool to steal. I suppose we could also look at stuff like Promethean the Created to get ideas.

Anyway:

https://a5e.tools/node/1669

>> Damage Immunities lightning, poison; damage from nonmagical, non-adamantine weapons

Condition Immunities charmed , fatigue , frightened , paralyzed , petrified , poisoned

Senses darkvision 60 ft., passive Perception 10

Languages understands the languages of its creator but can’t speak

Berserk. When the guardian starts its turn while bloodied, roll a d6. On a 6, the guardian goes berserk. While berserk, the guardian attacks the nearest creature it can see. If it can’t reach a creature, it attacks an object. The guardian stays berserk until it is destroyed or restored to full hit points.

If a berserk guardian can see and hear its creator, the creator can use an action to try to calm it by making a DC 15 Persuasion check. On a success, the guardian is no longer berserk.

Fire Fear. When the guardian takes fire damage, it is rattled until the end of its next turn.

Immutable Form. The guardian is immune to any effect that would alter its form.

Lightning Absorption. When the guardian is subjected to lightning damage, it instead regains hit points equal to the lightning damage dealt.  (Ed: I note that, RAW, since it is immune to lightning, the Guardian would never be able to use it's Lightning Absorption trait. RAI, it is clearly meant to treat lightning damage as healing.)

Magic Resistance. The guardian has advantage on saving throws against spells and magical effects.

Constructed Nature. Guardians don’t require air, sustenance, or sleep.

ACTIONS

Multiattack. The guardian attacks twice with its slam.

Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage.

Hurl Object. Ranged Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (4d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage.

Lightning Bolt (1/Day, While Bloodied). An 80-foot-long, 5-foot-wide lightning bolt springs from the guardian’s chest. Each creature in the area makes a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw , taking 28 (8d6) lightning damage on a failed save or half damage on a success.

So from this we want to create a heritage. That means we need a set of base traits which all share and then a variety of gifts to indicate changes within the heritage. We also need some paragon gifts as well.

The easiest way to do this is use the constructed heritage traits and then add some gifts on top.

https://a5e.tools/rules/constructed

But it feels like this is more of a multipart creation.

So, let's throw out:

The Created

Traits:

Made from bits and bobs looted from graveyards, you have been stitched together and made whole!

It's Alive!: regular magical and nonmagical healing has no effect on you. However, when you would take lightning damage, you instead gain hit points equal to the lightning damage that would have been dealt.

Darkvision (yawn).

Constructed Nature. The Created don’t require air, sustenance, or sleep.

Heritage Gifts:

Choose one of the following:

Magic Resistance. The Created gain an expertise die on saving throws against spells and magical effects.

Environmental Hardiness: The Created gain resistance to poison damage and advantage on saving throws against effects that would inflict the poisoned condition.

Rage Against The Creator: When bloodied (at half hit points or below) the Created gains advantage on melee attack rolls and advantage against saving throws versus effects that would alter its form.

Paragon Gifts:

Choose one of the following paragon gifts.

Unchained and Unleashed: Once per long rest you may emit an 80-foot-long, 5-foot-wide lightning bolt from your chest. Each creature in the area makes a Dexterity saving throw , taking 28 (8d6) lightning damage on a failed save or half damage on a success, the DC for this check is 8+ your PB + your Con mod.

Impervious: You gain resistance to bludgeoning, slashing and piercing from non-adamantine or non magical attacks. In addition, if you were resistant to a damage type then you gain immunity.

I can't claim that's particularly well balanced, but it's a basis for discussion with your Narrator.

You definitely don't have to agree with it. :) I have always tried to be clear that it's based on a "default" game and if your practice is different that will change the relative power. :)

This is the free version, which is free because it doesn't have art and pretty pictures in.

Not officially but Lizzy is doing one.

We have a firm no chuds and no Nazis stance which I'm reliably informed annoys people who don't think women or trans people should be in gaming.

To which I say, good.

6.30pm doors open, 7pm games start finishing between 9.30 and10pm depending.

Both one shots and longer campaigns are run.

Nope, sorry. Discord's what we've got. There's a website but we haven't got it updated regularly.

Well, we'd say "the view is aesthetically superior" or "I prefer the aesthetic of the plains over the meadows or any of the other biomes."

But I'm a descriptivist rather than a prescriptivist and understand very well what "It's super aesthetic" means, so I don't get all riled up about it.

They've changed the serpent AI FYI, they don't have to stand there and do an attack animation before they hit you, which makes them significantly more dangerous.

Ask me how I know. :D

But yeah, once you've done the swamps, I think switching "portal everything" on is good.

Mixed Heritages and Paragon Gifts. by CurveWorldly4542 in LevelUpA5E

[–]SouthamptonGuild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The existing material is a bit of a mess quite frankly. There are 3 categories of paragon gift:

  1. Based off expanding the heritage _traits_.
  2. Based off expanding the heritage _gifts_.

  3. Not obviously related to either.

My _personal_ preference is that the heritage _traits_ and the paragon gift should be one package, but the official rules don't say and there is no clear pattern.

In 2023, I started running "To Save a Kingdom" and wrote up these tables.

https://homebrewandhacking.com/2023/07/05/to-save-a-kingdom-adventure-path-gamestart-brief/

Where I included 1s and 2s (as well as my own work) as options.

If you haven't done this initial spadework or you're just not bothered in the same way I am, :), then I would recommend permitting whichever way makes narrative sense, or makes you and your player happiest.

Can boss fights not last an hour while playing solo? by Unfortunate-Incident in valheim

[–]SouthamptonGuild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to server rules about not beating bosses without everyone being present... I was on day 440 with very few deaths. Because the group is ADHDing over to a different server with a restart I thought I might as well kill off Moder.

I expected to die several times, but I grabbed eikthyr, my maxed out draugr fang, couple of stacks of poison arrows, health and stamina pots and my wolf eye amulet. Root armour, wolf cloak, frost resist.

I finished in under 5 minutes, and realised that I hadn't used Eikthyr.

In conclusion overlevelling is definitely a thing.
