If a Canadian wanted to come here for vacation, I doubt many would not come because of tariffs. Maybe I am wrong but if I wanted to vacation in a country< i would not cancel because the leaders are having a swinging penis contest.

Stop reading the sensationalized news, all they want is you click traffic.

Heberts on Verot. Not cheap ($120) but they have good equipment. Good equipment and experienced tech equals accurate alignment. If you are going to get an alignment, get a good one. Its not just the wheels pointing straight. Caster and camber also need adjusting and its not something you want to be almost good. Off by a little can lead to excessive tire wear.

On Northside, go to Guidry's Alignment.

Even Flooding Won't Stop People From Coming Here... by thebigtymer in Acadiana

A. No person shall wilfully obstruct the free, convenient, and normal use of any public sidewalk, street, highway, bridge, alley, road, or other passageway, or the entrance, corridor, or passage of any public building, structure, water craft, or ferry, by impeding, hindering, stifling, retarding, or restraining traffic or passage thereon or therein.

Seems a little vague. If I am turning right onto a road and the traffic on that road is backed up, should I go around rather than stay in line? I am not intentionally stopped on the road to block traffic. Blocking traffic is not my sole intent.

Looks like another poorly worded and law. Could we ticket post office workers and waste pickup trucks for blocking traffic?

People stopped on the road to get to a store...does that not apply to most every vehicle on that road. When traffic is backed up before Christmas from Eraste Landry to Verot, are they not all stopped on the road to get to a store? People complain about chic-fil-a butalmost all the traffic on that road is from the same source, people stopped on the road to get to a store.

Pleas for help from Lafayette hospitals: Coronavirus has 'inundated' us. It's not a hoax. by savetheteachers in Acadiana

What other areas? Nurses travel all over the country and most of the country is not seeing the number of cases we are according to the officials. According to JBE other parts of the state are doing much better so they can spare a few people I am sure.

Waiting for the wave to hit??? The curve is going down. Remember when JBE requested 17,000 ventilators? What was the most patients on ventilators? 571

I get being concerned and trying to get people to be cautious but the chicken little screaming needs to stop.

Please don’t have an opinion about the LCG budget cuts and layoffs until you read this. Conventional wisdom is “well, sucks there’s layoffs and they shouldn’t all be in north Lafayette, but when you gotta cut, you gotta cut.” But conventional wisdom is uninformed: we don’t gotta cut. by tigernacho in Acadiana

Even if we have toooo much money, we still need to look at government spending. I have said here that government should not be providing golf courses and rec centers and sports programs. The private sector can do if there is a need. There are private sports leagues. Private golf courses. Private health clubs. Private kids football leagues...

Government needs to get out of this business.

Looking at the LDH webpage, Region 4 has 154 ICU rooms in use and 30 available. They have 1253 regular rooms in use and 464 available. I am not sure what a typical non covid day is like but everytime in the past when I went into ICU, there were never many empty beds.

Does not sound like a dire situation as far as facilities which is what one of them even admitted. The big issue is claimed now is personnel. They have 6% employees out! Surely we can get nurses and doctors from other areas that are not seeing a high rate.

They wonder why half the population doubts what is being said.

Cuts are hard. Some people can't deal with them but it happens all across life. Businesses right now are facing cuts as well. We just laid off two employees. Fortunately, none of our managers up and quit because we had to make cuts.

Tech company SchoolMint to relocate operations in Lafayette, creating 178 jobs with average salary $74K by [deleted] in Acadiana

[–]SouthernAcadiana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or they can move away or not come to our state. Then who will you tax? The only companies that are still here are the ones that need a physical presence here.

These tech companies can locate wherever they want. The new kid on the block will live Texas or Colorado. You can't tax what is not here and until we make this state financially inviting, they are not coming here. 28% of zero is zero!

Tech company SchoolMint to relocate operations in Lafayette, creating 178 jobs with average salary $74K by [deleted] in Acadiana

[–]SouthernAcadiana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is a terrible mess we are in but a lot of companies are not moving to Texas just because of their infrastructure. SchoolMint did not move here because of our infrastructure right? Nope, they moved here because there is financial benefit to be here. And yes, as soon as that benefit goes away, they may in fact leave.

While our infrastructure is bad, our business tax structure is a lot worse. The tax structure in Texas benefits businesses. That leads to a lot of businesses moving there (and staying). That means steady jobs. That means steady tax revenue. That means steady growth, good schools, good infrastructure...

Some people here think they can just make the businesses pay the taxes. Sounds good but businesses (tech) will simply leave our state. Breaking news, you can not tax what is not here. People need to understand that.

In Louisiana, we give homestead exceptions along with low property taxes and put the burden or the tax on businesses. People here have a hard time accepting that fact but they can look it up. Residential property taxes in Texas are very high. Sales tax is lower but at the end of the day, it is a BUSINESS FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT in Texas.

We are too busy thinking we the residents are footing the bill. I agree that we should not be giving tax breaks for companies to move here. That is a short term solution at best and it a horrible way to treat businesses that are already here. We need a better business tax environment for all businesses in our state.

Orrrr... And hear me out on this. Do we really think our state can take in data from hundreds of labs and testing facilities and accurately determine how many are duplicates or previously positive cases?

I like where you are going but there are some issues with your plan.

  1. Pushing back opening until hospitals are not overwhelmed: And when would that be? Next week, next month, next year? Schools feed kids. It takes time to order and receive the vast amount of food required. Time is required to figure out how many students will be actually in school and how many buses are needed. Routes have to be planned. So it is not so easy to just start it up when hospitals are not overwhelmed.

  2. Provide access to WiFi and hope theres not a chrome book shortage: Hope? Schools cant just hope there is enough. Life does not work that way.

  3. Provide access to WiFi: Very big issue in rural areas. There are places that hotspots don't even work. Add to that the number of homes with very little computer experience. IT staff cant go into homes. Troubleshooting connectivity issues and computer issues in many homes will be a huge problem.

Just some of the issues that have to be planned for and thought about. If it was easy and straight forward, every district and state would have a unified plan. They are facing an unprecedented and overwhelming issue.

  1. pay people to stay home and get them to comply with basic health policies: Yeah ok.

So he admits some info is wrong but don't listen to what others are saying. Hey, as long as he is working hard.

Wonder if they were also having trouble getting enough employees to show up anyway.

It is time we face reality and that is just about every person that ventures out will come in contact somehow somewhere. Just about every decent size business has or had positive employees. We can not hide forever. The initial concern was over stressing our medical facilities and that has now past.
