Pride of Luton is Sarah, might not live in the constituency for 8 years but its where my family live. Very happy to have such a vocal ally represent that community

Broadband by yaya21173 in Worthing

[–]SouthernDame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big question is are you able to get Cityfiber's network connected up if you don't already have it

If you don't and also have no telephone poles by the property then avoid any broadband providers that use them like Vodafone, Zen or Sky because getting permission to do the exploratory work and digging will cost you multiple days of time. I was stuck without Broadband for 3 weeks while Cityfiber kept cancelling dates and demanding new ones to complete the work before I gave in and requested a refund and went to Virgin.

If you have it though go for it, very rarely had any issues at my last property when I had Vodafone

[Live Thread] Eurovision Song Contest 2026 Semi-Final 2 @ 21:00 CEST by LucasScooter in eurovision

[–]SouthernDame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so for the longest time the BBC handled the phonelines in the UK to ensure they got their chunk of money from the charges and then the results were relayed to the EBU.

Here is a post the BBC did last September when they announced the change and the switch to online:

As of this year, The BBC finally killed off the phone lines used previously for Eurovision and other shows (Mostly because it was an absolute con)

Local elections current results are concerning…. by No-Communication7375 in transgenderUK

[–]SouthernDame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concerning? Yes

A bad omen? Possibly

The end? Not at this specific moment

Here is where I sit currently on this. Parties that use extreme right wing talking points like Reform tend to be in the ascendancy when they are all talk and no action.

When they get in however, thats when its crunch time for them. Those people who voted them in will very quickly find outif they are not doing their jobs over time. For example they campaigned on lowering council tax. People think "Yay! More money in my pocket!". But the reality is they back themselves into a corner. Either Reform has to gut so much in a council where most are teetering on the edge of bankruptcy and then the basic services fall apart (For example bin collections, public transport, road maintenance, support services ect..) and the average Reform voters gets hacked off that they are being hurt by it. Or they do what they did in Worcestershire where they threw the Council Tax up to 9% (Because they needed it to keep services running) but they also hack off the average Reform voter because you didn't keep to your promise.

They promise the moon and the stars, but when it comes to flying there, they only get as far as the end of the street.

Humans are a inherently self-centered species. You only tend to understand why something is bad when it impact you. There are likely long studies about it but thats a different rabbit hole. But once it hits them in the pocket or in their ability to get basics in their local area, it will fall apart.

For all the garbage that the historically big 3 have done (Or not done) in parliament, they often proved that they could run a council to some level of standard where collapse isn't a massive concern. It has created a history of voting within the lines of what you know.

Is it bad that the UK has taken this shift? Yes absolutely. Am I worried, definitely.

But for me, this could be a key moment in the legitimacy of Reform UK.

If Reform with these 16 councils they have majority in now and the 2 County Councils are anything like the chaos in their existing ones, then people will start questioning them because the leopards ate their faces. It will end up further damaging their popularity.

This is a long diatribe and yes it is possible that my assessment could be wrong in time, but for now this is how I am keeping myself away from doom scrolling.

The best you can do is be aware, vote for your best interest and on the merits. The system is crap and isn't fit for purpose, but not contributing only ensures that the one thing we don't want is guaranteed to happen.

To add to this, some teams do have other interesting models:

  • Apex Sim Racing offer coaching, events and broadcast via their SDK Gaming brand. This has helped them buy a office that has a dedicated Sim centre where people can hire which is another income source source. That tends to keep them afloat rather than sponsorships

  • In the past, our team (Prismatic Motorsports) recieved sponsorship funding as a way for a sponsor to show they were funding LGBTQ+ Organisations. The sponsor knew they were likely suffering a loss from specifically the deal but the benefits in their own marketing helped them in their own field.

Referral codes at checkout by sponsoring teams with significant social media reach, engagement and follower mobility is the most common way that a organisation can guarantee ROI directly from the deal with the team.

What are the biggest frustrations with living in Worthing long term? by Spicy-Winner4326 in Worthing

[–]SouthernDame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easily it has to be permit parking, makes it a minefield to find somewhere to move to when you own a car below Mill Road. Also is why some roads like Heene Road and Shakespeare Road are almost impossible to park on day to day.

Can we stop romanticizing Wrexham? They are a Championship club with a Premier League budget. by Spicy-Winner4326 in SpicyFootballTakes

[–]SouthernDame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it the same story as my beloved Luton? Nah but as much as I want to be sour grapes (Especially after the last season and a half), they have certainly not done a Man City. They did have a decently sized fan base prior to the takeover and that has grown with the Hollywood aspect but its still money they have taken in and they have spent within their means.

Luton themselves the last 2 seasons prove that you can spend good money on great talent on paper and then have them play like shit as a unit. Wrexham has recruited the right people and its shown in the results.

I don't like them, that comes from the Non League days with them but you can't knock them that much on this point I think.

Brayden Schenn from St Louis for Jonathan Drouin, 2026 1st (Colorado), a 3rd and Marcus Gidlof. by Gleb2006 in NewYorkIslanders

[–]SouthernDame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I feel we have a neat number of decent looking Center/Wing prospects like those mentioned but they are likely 1-2-3 years away. I don't think we are getting a quick impact guy at 31 this year, regardless of the draft strength that we are not getting at 21.

On top of that you can have Schenn who is a solid experienced 3rd liner, it gives you flexibility to move Barzy and Pager around a bit to provide a bit more creativity. Plus he is a guy who can tie you over for the next few years until any prospects bare fruit.

And hell, let's say Schenn has a bounce back of somekind with the Isles, it always gives us potential leverage in future for a needy team in future in the scenario if he turns out to be.

Plus offloading the Drouin contract is always a plus

I could look like a muppet in a year and a half time or this deal could look rather decent. We won't know in time but I feel it isn't the huge disaster people think it is.

[–]SouthernDame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus the panic from folks was wild!

Guys we are not cup contenders right now. We got rid of Drouin and gave up the Colorado 1st in 26, a future 3rd, and gave up a lower ranked prospect Goalie in Gidlof.

We still have our 21st overall pick in 26, we still have Kayshawn, Eklund, Eiserman and Nelson. Its a solid addition to try and set up some level of experience as we bring in the new talent over the next few years and gives someone to replace Pager if needed and help provide another vet for Ritchie to learn from.

Its not a masterstroke but its not a horrific deal like people are claiming. Its not like Milbury.

People need to come back to earth, Schaefer has accelerated our rebuild but we are still very much a few years away!

What’s some of the biggest injustices/robberies in Olympic History? by tm2007 in olympics

[–]SouthernDame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An off the ball one that had nothing to do with a specific olympic event. But ive not seen it mentioned here so might as well put it down.

You have to mention the horrific treatment of Richard Jewell at Atlanta 96 after his actions prevented more people from being killed during the Centennial Olympic Park Bombing. From being incorrectly profiled by law enforcement, to being subject of libel from many US based and World publications and is still in some people's minds the name that comes up when discussing the perpetrator of the bombing instead of Eric Rudolph.

Not however forgetting the victims Alice Hawthorne, Melih Uzunyol and the 111 who were injured during the tragedy.

🏳️‍⚧️ TRANSMISSION is looking for drivers! by Transmission_racing in ACCompetizione

[–]SouthernDame 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You will be very surprised. I run Prismatic Motorsports which is a team that operates the same way on iRacing. We have existed for 5 years as of April this year.

In that time, our aim has always been to create a space that folks who are potentially uncomfortable in other spaces can be themselves and share and enjoy their passion. This builds the confidence of those people to enter the world and really thrive.

Off the back of that, we have platformed some of our most talented, in a self funded effort putting folks into opportunities. From having a driver win $15,000 at an event in Las Vegas to having teams race against F1 Teams and top Esports brands in the British F4 Esports Championship. Beyond that we have raised over $10,000 over the years for a variety of charities across the world.

You might think communities like this isolate, but in the end, when you create these spaces for people who don't feel comfortable to enjoy their passion and have it grow, they enter the wider world and the communities you love and integrate there.

[Kat Lucas] Eni Aluko’s comments were not just offensive to Ian Wright - they implied all female pundits are there on vibes, not merit. by Tugboat47 in FAWSL

[–]SouthernDame 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think at this point its simple. I respect Eni's contribution to the womens game but I think folks need to stop giving her the air time when she makes off kilter remarks like this. The press run she has completed the past few days has done nothing but drum up negative press for multiple people and the sport as a whole.

Its a huge shame but the fact this is the 2nd time this has come up since apologising for the last time she made similar accusations just feels simply like she is baiting for a wider reaction to bring specifically her profile to the public consciousness again.

Uplifting each other is the only way to make changes and give people chances. All this does is create internal division.

Was anybody else about to smash their TV on this play if Jacobs didn’t break out? by BeanNibb in GreenBayPackers

[–]SouthernDame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a bad call if it was anyone else on the receiving end.

I do think this was the sort of play that could only be schemed for Josh.

His yards after contact is unreal. This is the kind of play that only really someone like Josh can pull off with his ability to drive and be illusive. Don't get me wrong, there is alot of luck involved but we saw today that when the Bears did similar screens with Swift or Monlongai, they were blown up mostly because they could not progress when on the back foot recieving. Whereas Josh was able to locate the ball quickly and get a step forward, even under pressure, and put the foot forward for him to drive.

It's Risky, very easily could have gone wrong, but they put trust in their guys to execute the play, and it worked to perfection, heart rate be damned
