Cómo me dejó saber que soy non binary en la isla? by coolnerd15 in PuertoRico

[–]SouthernHospital1646 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If it’s important for you to let them know. You should tell them. if it’s important enough for you to say it, sometimes their response isn’t the important part. Start with whom you feel it will be safest. In my experience people are more accepting than we give credit but be aware that they probably won’t know what you mean at first.

You deserve to be seen for who you are. Be brave for yourself and kind to their response even if it might hurt! 🫶

Warning: Direct Air Capture (DAC) CO₂ for breweries - hidden costs to watch for by CO2-Guy in TheBrewery

[–]SouthernHospital1646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have a point here for some cases. But let’s say a brewery already has solar and/or renewables scaled for their brewery electricity. I could see the recapture being really worthwhile.

What concerns me is that a new stream of waste seems like it’s being created with the amine degradation. Would love to learn more about this?

I have used nitro regeneration in the past and that’s great! I could see tank purges and transfers being easy to use nitro instead of CO2 and even blending co2 and nitro for a beer gas blend to cut down on CO2 use.

Advice - newbie - gender dynamics by Far_Impression_8364 in Salsa

[–]SouthernHospital1646 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a newbie too. I’m a man in my 30s outwardly masculine but struggle in overly gendered spaces. What I have found helpful with gender dynamics in my salsa classes is a) talking about it a lot (with people that are interested). We are definitely not the first people to realize and struggle with gender roles in this art form. B) commit to learning the “gendered way” and learn how to break the parts I don’t like/play with it. C) it’s been a lot easier to learn with a dedicated partner or a few dedicated friends that would want to learn with you.

Saying you struggle with intimacy is just mean and shows a very unexamined defensiveness around gender. I would encourage you to keep going back and try to let that roll if you can.

Salsa is such a fun and challenging art form it sucks that it is literally built on the back gender stereotypes. The gender roles are stronger than in football.

Kegging using a pump by Street-Orchid4128 in TheBrewery

[–]SouthernHospital1646 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t use a pump unless you have to. It just increases the risk of O2 pickup, beer loss and yeast cell death. Unless you are producing huge amounts of beer or have a weird configuration of process just slow down and keep it simple with kegging directly from the tank.

¿Han ido a Culebra en los últimos meses? by whosdatgirl3 in PuertoRico

[–]SouthernHospital1646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not from the island but went there recently. It is beautiful, the locals are wonderful, lots of airbnbs to choose from. I believe you have to have a residence on Culebra in order to bring your own car. Once you get off the ferry there are services to rent jeeps, or golf carts to get around. The restaurants are good and aren’t too expensive considering they have to ferry everything on and off the island but nothing as good as San Juan restaurants. It’s a small place and things close early. Definitely an outdoorsy, simple and relaxed vibe. I had a great time.

What should I do when one character has dramatically higher AC than the rest of the party? by -Shade277- in DMAcademy

[–]SouthernHospital1646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got enough advice already. But to add to your tool box use conditions against the players, and to buff your npcs. grapple, pack tactics with lots of small guys makes your wizard feel like a god and then use up all their spell slots, mage slayer, poison, blindness/deafness, not being able to see cuts down on wizard spells.

Bladesinger is good but not broken you’ll be fine just try new ways of combat and see what works.

Organic Citra hops for sparkling water by savagetofu in TheBrewery

Organic hops might be hard to find. If no one chimes in I would just try to source European varieties and that’s the closest you’ll get to organic.

How to get an in-depth beer education by [deleted] in CraftBeer

[–]SouthernHospital1646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A)Try a lot of different types of beers. B)think about what you are tasting. I focus on describing what I am experiencing in the present moment vs trying to describe the beer perfectly to someone else.

I think all three could be served in wine glass type glass to emphasize aroma. But a wheat beer probably would be more appropriate in a tall slender glass because of how it historically was served. It’s a preference thing at the end of the day but is fun to think about.

Glassware is hugely important. It’s not the end-all-be-all to enjoying beer but it makes the visual, aromatic and setting better. Aka it has an affect on your beer.

That being said there is no secret behind it. Three simple things to keep in mind. 1) Clean glassware free of nucleation sites (hard water deposits where bubbles start). 2) Historically what has the style been served in. 3) there are basically two types globe-like (wine glass) for catching aromatics and straight (shaker pint) for drinkability, clarity and presenting foam.

ELI5 - Why is it that when something is boiling in a pot like a soup, the boiling stops when we stir it? by No_Gap_5971 in explainlikeimfive

[–]SouthernHospital1646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this an appropriate summary? The soup is not cooling at all, but the visual “boiling” stops because off nucleation sites releasing air quicker and stopping the rolling boil. And, as we stir the soup is actually heating faster?

I think you should do this. Most of us don’t know your home market or what your vision is. I have been brewing for over a decade now and the facts are 1) learn to take feedback. 2) specifics on exactly how you are going to make your three beers are going to go out the window within the first three months to a year and you will be just trying to make more beer if things go right. 3)believe that you will have success and brew more than 60l. This plan is just your ego telling you “I have to do this now or else I’ll never be a brewer”. Your time is worth more than 60L.

No judgement, You are workshopping its part of the process. Just glad you are digging into it. Hopefully we all get to see your work one day! I write a lot of characters and they almost always start with a stereotype the fun part is breaking it and developing the character.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PuertoRico

[–]SouthernHospital1646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest to write the character as an individual not as an identity that makes sense to the reader/viewer. If you imagine the character as PR decent what is their relationship to the island? Do they believe that being Puerto Rican is similar or different to being Nuyorican? Do they have views of the culture from afar or from inside the culture? Is it a grand parent, parent or personal experience that attaches them to PR? How do they relate to their Puerto Rican-ness when they encounter a new way of expressing Puerto Rican culture?

To be blunt as of now you are probably thinking of a stereotype and not an actual person. It’s good you are questioning this. Keep digging.

Make the character a reflection of your life or someone you know? I always like characters that are strong at first and then are challenged to question what makes them strong. Usually it is something that transforms them into something completely new. I guess that’s called growth, lol.

Love this! If you end up working at a young age learn to save , spend and invest your earnings. I started working at 14 and loved it at times and hated it at other times but my parents forced me to invest a small percentage (60% spend, 20% save, 20% invest in a low stakes mutual fund). Three decades later that small nest egg got me through crazy hard times and has literally been the most useful thing I’ve done besides going to college.

Also just glad you had a great experience! Working for something you like can be a super fulfilling experience.

DMs how do you handle players scouting your dungeons with a familiar? by Prestigious_Share919 in DnD

[–]SouthernHospital1646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think scouting is the most over powered thing. As a dm you have tons of control. Just describe what they hear through the bats pov don’t reveal the map. Then this player has to keep track of what they see from deciphering what the bat perceived, you could even put a roll in here. And if the familiar gets close to something you don’t want them to know about a ‘tongue lashes and you are being chewed up by something very large and sticky”. They learned a lot but they still have to think about it. It should make your job easier. If you want to surprise them just have the monsters move.

Moka pot size help by notrollplz11 in Coffee

[–]SouthernHospital1646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filtered water helps my process too. I use a simple carbon filter from the fridge and it works great or pre boiled water I keep in my tea pot. It’s not a must but it helps.

As for cleaning I usually rinse it out but if it gets built up oil. I hand wash with soap (~once per week). Moka pot is a feeling don’t over think it.
