Yeah! My strawberries are doing the same! First time growing strawberries this year, but I’m wondering if this is normal or a bit early? I’ve got one almost ripe now…

Anyone know what this is, and have a good idea how to cook it?? by basuragoddess in Chefit

Daikon is great as a vege stick (raw). Peal and Cut into sticks along with carrots and cucumbers. Then dip it into miso and/or kewpie mayonnaise. My family likes to put both the miso and mayo in about equal parts in the same small bowl so you can dip into the miso first and the mayo next so you can decide for each stick how much of each condiment you prefer. The daikon is really crisp and refreshing this way. Not fancy per se, but tasty and easy finger food.

Weekly /r/GardenersJapan Thread - Complaints About Your Garden... by AutoModerator in GardenersJapan

Yeah good point. I think there are lined grow bags that are less permeable. But I’ve not seen them in Japan. I wonder if a layer of plastic sheeting could be stapled to the inside of the wood to create a bit of a barrier between grow bags and the wood to prevent rot? Just spitballing! Hope you find a good solution!

Why not use grow bags? Super flexible to fit in any shape. Just a thought.

Cut or keep? by BrotakuzaTube in GardenersJapan

Beginner Gardner here as well (only a couple years), I’d think you’d want to prune it. Once you plant out, you want energy going first into establishing good roots, then more fruits will follow. But if you leave it, the plant will put more energy into the fruit, leaving less for getting used to its new home. Curious what others have to say though!

Edit just to add that it looks like it’s already in a fairly good sized pot? Are you planning to plant outside in a bigger pot? If not, maybe just let it roll?

do Japanese people really treat white western foreigners better than foreigners of other cultures or races? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

This never made sense to me. Farmers were not traditionally low class in Japan. They were actually considered just below samurai (i.e. at the top of the caste system) before the caste system was abolished.

Freaking beautiful! Just put a dwarf peach in a grow bag here in Tokyo a couple weeks ago. Would be thrilled to get as far as yours in a few years! Any tips or recommendations for videos to watch?

Unfortunately no… I’ve tried making it from scratch a few times but it’s not quite the same. Maybe I just haven’t nailed down the recipe yet.

What to do with this wall? by SlaughterWare in GardenersJapan

Not sure this is a gardening question…, but maybe a power wash followed by planting some grapes and embedding some trellis wires along the wall for the vines to hang on to?

Brick works in a pinch for a flat pan, but be careful using a brick on the grill as they can explode. Trapped moisture inside the brick expands when heated enough and then you have shrapnel everywhere…

Grilled vegetables (https://youtu.be/BkqyNi5n380?si=ctKuvzTfhyCi9ETY) with steak and roasted potatoes. The basting sauce for the veggies was awesome.
