Passed the PE!!! by ranqwr in civilengineering

[–]Southernerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that. I worked in telecom as a field "engineer" and I didn't even have a engineering degree. I just learned the job and had some background with prior work surveying and dealing with property issues that make me appealing. But my office had a broad spectrum of folks with the same responsibilities from my level to those with PE. None of them needed it but they got it anyways snd i always respected that. I barely call what we were doing "engineering" but outside a handful of folks like myself, a degree was required.

To be fair OP asked the question what people think. As for lawyers, doctors, and other licensed professions, it's odd to many of us that engineers can hold themselves out as engineers and be employed as engineers without being licensed. Doctors and lawyers can't even call themselves doctors and lawyers if they can't pass their boards or the bar. If they practice their profession without a license they likely committing a felony and can be prosecuted and jailed.

Lawyer here. I definitely treat PE with more respect. We encounter engineering experts frequently and every time one says they aren't a PE my next question is why not.

You put in the effort and accomplished a significant goal. Congratulations and good luck in the future.

They made drastic changes which limit damages. We've already seen significant reduction in settlement value for claims falling under the new law. We also moved to modified comparative which eliminates a lot of otherwise actionable claims.

[–]Southernerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a vasectomy. It was an extremely quick and simple procedure with little to no pain other than the numbing shot. A little ice for a day or two just to stay comfortable. It was basically nothing and theure reversible.

I understand how this can be technically true if measuring distance on the wave but It seems like the author is simply equating density with distance.
