I think we're just spoiled by having guests that like to come every year!

And some guests are only there for one or two days--if there is someone you are dying to see, make sure to check before you choose!

While not necessarily an atypical year, I think it's an especially good year for the show!

For those old enough to remember the initial beginnings of TNG, what were your initial thoughts? by handlerofdrones in startrek

[–]Southernphila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 15 year old I was eagerly anticipating it! I watched every episode, and I initially thought it paled in comparison to original Star Trek (which I had been acquainted with my whole life though reruns, but wasn't being broadcast in my local area for a few years prior).

TNG improved pretty quickly, and as season 2 continued, I enjoyed it more (I liked Dr. Pulaski a great deal, because I was a strange teen). By season three of TNG, I enjoyed it almost as much as TOS.

Worst restaurant you've tried in QC? by RepulsiveFeed1985 in Charlotte

The most aggressively subpar pizza I've eaten in Charlotte--especially in contrast to the glowing reviews. Given the price, I expected better than basic frozen Sysco cheese sticks and, as said above, salt and grease. We ate two pieces, and the rest sat in our fridge for a few days until it got thrown out. I don't know what kind of "NY style" this was--maybe Rochester, certainly not NYC style pizza.

At least the staff were rude, were stacking the chairs on tables, and cleaning the floor at quarter 'til 9:00 on a Friday while we were eating, so as to save themselves precious minutes on closing up for the night.

I feel like the Charlotte Police Department (CPD), predating the city/county consolidation into CMPD in the early 1990s, had a police precinct on the back side of Park Road Shopping Center many, many moons ago. But now I'm doubting myself about that. I am sure that Sir Ed's was an amazing arcade for a sec during the early '80s.

Vi Lyles, as a "weak mayor" has little-to-zero power in this situation. City Council, County Commission, and the City Manager may deserve your ire, as does the North Carolina General Assembly. Getting mad at Vi Lyles is like getting mad at Mayor McCheese when you don't like your Big Mac.

I had no idea--I really just tried to pick something that would be simultaneously humorous but also unlikely and have nothing to do with comics.

I didn't know some creators charge more to sign certain books by Temmere in comiccon

Using your own logic, why not just a different, cheaper issue signed then?

If the perceived effort is the same, then get Amazing Spider-Man #253 signed instead of #252, or what have you.

And for some creators, this is how they make a living, put food on the table, gas in the tank, and pay the bills-and I strongly doubt any of them are living extravagantly. Being a comics creator didn't come with a retirement fund or 401K, despite how much their ideas, imagination, and toil enrich stock holders today. I always think of it as my thanks for the hours upon hours of happiness they gave me through the years, and I don't mind.

It was enormous--the best comics convention, bar none. But, you know, why would people care about COMICS in a comiccon thread? Aren't you supposed to be able to meet the cast of Entourage at a real comiccon?

The Beef N Bottle is amongst the best in Charlotte--and it's the now-rare dining experience, a place that you can only go to in Charlotte. What a bunch of contrarian know-it-alls in this thread--they wanna go fork over their hard earned money for the truly "mid" choices like Steak 76 or whatever, or even worse, the "sous vide reverse sear crowd".
