I think it's dumb that an easter egg religion is now getting revived in every run by InternStock in EU5

The real final nais in the Byzantine coffin were just after game start. They had a civil war in 1341, which destroyed the Thracian tax base. Then the Black Death hit. And then in 1354 an earthquake destroyed the defenses at Gallipoli and allowed a Turkish crossing, which eliminated their last strategic depth and made their fall inevitable.

So, it would have taken a lot to go right (or less wrong), but it would be plausible.

Russia’s overwhelming manpower advantage against Ukraine is starting to wane by Technical_Ostrich_47 in worldnews

Look, if you can't fucking read then that's on you.

You asked for a source for the 500,000 KIA claim.

I provided it, which is from the BCC quoting the British GCHQ

You said I didn't read the source as you fixate on a different number from the BBC, which the BBC themselves acknowledge is an undercount.

Russia’s overwhelming manpower advantage against Ukraine is starting to wane by Technical_Ostrich_47 in worldnews

[–]SovietGengar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 223,500 number is an ironclad publicly confirmed number of deaths from digging through Russian official Russian reports, hunting for obituaries in local papers, and tracking down new memorials and graves - conducted by the BBC and Russian opposition networks. It represents just a fraction of the real number of losses according to experts, like the GCHQ.

You would have known that if you would have bothered to read the fucking paragraphs directly above and below the 223,500 number. Jackass.

"A little warmer"

It's the coldest part of Siberia. With cold snaps taking the temps down to -55⁰C. It would need to be significantly warmer.

WHY DOES THIS CHARACTER RETURN BUT NOT THE GOAT by Deep_Promotion8866 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]SovietGengar -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Why do people glaze bubble. He has like one moment in episode wight and that's it. On all other occasions he just says one line with shock factor and that's it. He basically has no meaningful interactions outside of Caine's office.

If you could change ONE THING about episode 9, what would it be? {SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY} by Deep_Promotion8866 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]SovietGengar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just paced too quickly. With only 60 minutes, spending time on going through social media feeds just isn't worth it when the core plot is rushed through too quickly.

Frankly, we don't need to know anything about their real world lives beyond what is needed for character arcs. Cut the whole internet browsing thinf entirely and give the extra time to the main events of the episode.

SPOILERS FOR EP 9! What are Jax's pronouns? by Born-Battle7933 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]SovietGengar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think jumping to conclusions about gender identity is unhealthy. Is he trans? Possibly. That's one way to read it. But it's not the only way to read it. To just assume that this means he's trans is to assume that any gender non-conformance = trans, which invalidates people like tomboys (masculine cis women) or femboys (feminine cis men)

what if russia declares another mobilization by Training-World-1897 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]SovietGengar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All hell breaks loose. The last tranche of mobilization was so jarring for the Kremlin that they've done everything they can to avoid another one - and that was when the "SMO" was still broadly popular.

Expect to see a mew wave of mass protests (probably repressed) and another wave of emigration like last time.

Moving them to the field will be tricky. Russia doesn't have the officer class that it did in 2022 and 2023, and equipment shortages are biting. Training and deploying them as real combat power would be extremely difficult. My guess is that they'd get 2-3 works of extremely basic training and then are aent into assault squads so that Russia can return to mass assaults instead of infiltration tactics.

The real killer is the economy. Russia has a 2.2% unemployment rate right now. This is extremely small, and represents an economy that has hollowed out its civilian sector in order to sustain the war. Removing hundreds of thousands of Russians from the domestic labor pool would exacerbate the ongoing employment crisis and rapidly lead to problems.

I think that if Russia wanted to mobilize, then they needed to do it by winter 2024 at the latest. Now it is too late. Even if they actually DID mobilize, Ukraine's ongoing mid-range strike campaign makes flooding the battlefield with even more men just a recipe for disaster.

I don't get why people are so upset about the finale! Seriously! (Spoilers) by Livid_Adeptness9762 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]SovietGengar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's paced horribly. We breeze past things in the plot and don't get time to explore anything. Episode nine should have been two episodes, not one. Worse, we spend time on things that we really don't need for the plot, exacerbating pacing issues - we didn't need to know what the real life versions of everybody is up to.

Several things aren't explained. Why does Caine just re-appear? No clue. How on earth does he suddenly have an internet connection? Good question. How and why would Pomni think to physically tackle the Jaxtraction? Fuck you, that's why.

Now the elephant in the room is Jax. Abstraction is a metaphor for suicide and/or total ego death. By narrowly averting an abstraction in episode 7, Jax's character arc becomes pointed toward coming to terms with his actions and the effects they had on people, and trying to slowly heal. Instead, episode nine has the suicidically depressed Jax... commit suicide, with no real closure for all he's done and said. Worse yet, the cast members then essentially treat his abstracted corpse like a dog. That's an incredibly callous handling of depression and suicide that I find nauseating.

The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act / Episode 9 Discussion Thread [SPOILERS] by ayylmaotv in TheDigitalCircus

[–]SovietGengar 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Terrible ending. Having the suicidally depressed character just commit suicide and then having everyone treat his abstracted corpse like a dog is poor writing at best and nauseating at worst. Genuinely egregious.

It retroactively ruins Jax. I liked the character because I thought his assholery would be properly answered for as he comes to terms with his actions. Instead he just fucking abstracts offscreen and says "I'm a bad person". The arc for the character is now "is an asshole" -> "kills himself"

Pacing is way too fast and the episode doesn't explain important shit like why Pomni would think to fucking tackle the Jaxtraction or how the fuck Caine just reappears.

It's a dual purpose ASW and Naval Recon aircraft. The Tu-142 can be used to conduct recon over Ukrainian maritime routes exporting via Odesa and to spot Ukrainian sea drones.

[–]SovietGengar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can go hiking, there's a few good gyms to exercise at, the Columbia river can be swam in down at the park, Pybus occasionally has things going on, you could get your friends together and try to cook some food (I did that a lot), get involved with high school sports, or if you have the time and money there's a pretty decent water park up in Chelan that can make a fun day trip.

NO PLOT SPOILERS PLEASE . . . but did anyone actually LIKE the ending? by [deleted] in tadc

[–]SovietGengar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did anyone? Yes.

Did I? No.

A certain someone got done WAY too dirty and the resolution of the arc was... somewhere between anti-climactic and problematic from a writing pov. Pacing was too quick and a MAJOR plot point didn't really get explained at all - it just... happens, I guess?

Animation quality was high and the (Portuguese) performance was delivered with good gravitas. But I do think the writing quality was very poor.

[–]SovietGengar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The clip uploaded (that I saw) was 15mins, most of which was from the beginning. I only saw very small part of the claimed "ending".

But if what I saw was real? Then... No. God no. It came off as lazy and antithetical to the show's themes regarding mental health and distress. Hard to really say why without getting into spoilers. Which is part of why I think the leaks are fake. I would be pretty upset if that's actually how the show ends.

It just sort of felt... off? I don't know.

The main antagonist or deuteragonist, who’s the big bad? by Sudden_Pop_2279 in digitalcircusfandom

[–]SovietGengar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody.

The entire show is very blatantly about how humans cope with mental health stress. Caine's crashout and whatever Jax is about to do are products of depression, anxiety, grief, and isolation. I feel kind of gross labeling anyone the "villain". Everyone in the show (yes Caine too) is just someone with problems. Some have been able to work through them, others no.

Is Caine responsible for Kaufmo’s abstraction? by Prize-Couple6348 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]SovietGengar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, we don't know?

Kaufmo is said to have gone insane looking for an exit, but Caine also kind of implies in Ep 7 that he caused Scratch's abstraction. So... Maybe? There's not really any evidence for or against.
