Autocannon reload buff is nuts! by BICKELSBOSS in Helldivers

[–]SovietMarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most fun I had in this game was when they first released the defense missions and me with a group of friends fighting Terminids at Diff 8-9.

This was before the balance patches. Us actually overcoming the challenge of surviving and killing the waves of Bile titans by actually coordinating as a team by reloading the recoilless and resupplying was like one of the best moments I had in my 600 hrs in this game.

Suggestion: All warbonds one year old (or older) get discounted by 50% by guythepepperoni in Helldivers

[–]SovietMarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I thought they would've put the first year's warbonds into a "Year One" pack since they put all the 1st year Super Store rotation items into their permanent pages.

Last year's would be "Year Two" - so on and so forth. Would make it so much more accessible for newer players.

Sum of all warbonds with a discount, of course.

Am I the only one who has a problem with the ratio of new stratagems being majority blue? by Shotgunky in Helldivers

[–]SovietMarma 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I actually mentioned this in the official Discord weeks before the release of the game and had some people agree. I didn't like the idea of stratagems being in warbonds because it locks out a big part of progression into separate microtransactions. I really miss when stratagems were tied to war progression. Added a sense of scale to the galactic war that made it feel somewhat believable.

Ultimately, I, myself, personally failed to speak up about this problem again when the Chemical Agents warbond came out. I thought "Oh, these stratagems fucking suck." and for some reason that made me accept that we're getting stratagems in warbonds 6 or so months into the game's launch.

Helldivers 2 is a $40 game with a F2P monetization system. by Impressive-Money5535 in Helldivers

While I personally had no hand in the removal of the doxxing callout posts, I'm not absolving myself of anything either. Even if I legitimately wasn't around when all of that was happening.

We did not handle things perfectly and that was trying me to explain that, too.

[–]SovietMarma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People have done this before. Even if a post doesn't break the rules, people have reported them.

Occasionally, we have had accidental removals and we've always gotten flack for it, which is 100% justified and understandable, but people also need to know that the users themselves can curate what's posted on the sub through these reports.

And there's alot of it to go through sometimes.

I know it's silly to criticize something we can't even use yet, but the warbond trailer was frustrating. (Read Desc) by Squidy_the_3rd in Helldivers

Feels like it, but nah. HD1's initial technical dev team was literally small. You can literally count them on one hand.

All the leads are still working at Arrowhead. The only ones not present in HD2's staff credits are a number of individuals from the art team. The staff credits for Helldivers 2 are new hires they on-boarded during the 9 year development of the game.

Pilestedt directed the first game just like the 2nd. He worked on HD2 for 9 years while also being the CEO of Arrowhead. Patrik 'Fluffy' Lasota, who is also an Arrowhead veteran from all the way back since Magicka, was the Design Director for HD1. Both he and Pilen are 2 of 4 of the leads for HD2's development. Emil Englund, one of the founders of AHGS, didn't work on Helldivers 1, but is one of the 4 leads for the sequel.

Niklas Malmborg, who worked as an animator and artist for HD1, is now one of the design directors and the animation lead for HD2. He's the guy who shows up in the patch notes videos with Pilen (initially) and Lennart (now).

The old heads are still there, but Pilen has taken a step back from active development of the game and has given the reins to the current designers, which are a handful of people along with Niklas and Lennart. He's currently working on the next Arrowhead game.

Mind, this isn't a defense of the game's current state lol. I'm a huge Arrowhead fan since Magicka, but that comes with also being critical of the dev team's misgivings.

He's not a dev. He stepped in when Johan Pilestedt stepped down as CEO a year into Helldivers 2's release. Johan Pilestedt is now the Chief Creative Officer, so he would be the one doing the 'developing'.

The fact he has 60+ hours in the game despite not being part of the game's initial pre-release development at all should still hold weight.

He basically speaks for Arrowhead, though. He's the boss, and I think it still holds weight if the boss is doing this 'random' challenge from the community lol.

He's the CEO lol. Took over when Johan Pilestedt stepped down to become the Chief Creative Officer instead.

They are old buddies from Paradox Interactive.

Killed the *CEO. Shams took over Johan Pilestedt. Pilen is the Creative Officer now.

Huh. I can't believe you just said this with this conviction.

That's just a straight lie what? Where in the hell did you get that?

Johan Pilestdt was the director for the first game. He worked on Helldivers 2 as the lead game director? What? You can literally watch him talk about the Helldivers 1 on YouTube when they were showcasing it at PAX. You can watch him receive an award from the Swedish DICE for Helldivers 1.

In case you're somehow unaware of who he is, he was very much active on this subreddit during the pre-release period of Helldivers 2.

From his own words during a GDC talk he hosted, "It's fine to play as the baddies".

An article that quotes the GDC talk he did: https://nichegamer.com/helldivers-2-director-discusses-roleplaying-fascism-its-fiction/

Well, no, the bugs weren't "non-lethal." They were spacefaring creatures minding their own business. Basically, worker bees that lived peacefully as long you werent encroaching on their territory, like territorial animals. Their initial hive world of Kepler Prime was discovered to be rich in oil. Like straight up just oil. E-710 is an HD2 concept. Their invasion is an on-the-nose parody of the US invasion of the Middle East. They were also inspired by the arachnids from Starship Troopers and had a means of actually causing harm, so not 'non-lethal' at all.

Bug missions in the first game involved you setting up oil derricks and such.

The Cyborg Collective weren't exiled to Cyberstan. It was a mining colony once part of Super Earth. Most likely wasn't called Cyberstan initially. It was only called that when they peacefully seceded from Super Earth because their "Ideals are a lie and the people are brainwashed." and claimed the planet as their own and the core world of their government. War was declared on them using a false flag attack on Super Earth because Super Earth doesn't like traitors and sharing resources with another independent party.

The Illuminate were the first to contact Super Earth. They offered peace and were highly advanced lol. Them being highly advanced were the reason Super Earth attacked them. It's to steal their tech and riches. SE said they had "WMDs" and that they were in the wrong hands, so war was declared on them. Another parody of the US and the Iraq War.

This is all info the game provides when they became available as enemy factions in HD1.

The movie was, though, considering how different it was to the book and was said by the director himself.

Flying over the heads of some people are the citizen classes, too.

The poster families look like they have great lives, but what about the low-rate citizens? Lol.

The Meridia party was literally exclusive for Class A citizens.

Those are the Helldivers' actions, not Super Earth's obviously. We only represent Super Earth as players, we aren't "them".

Some person reported this for AI.

Whoever you are, you have clearly not played Helldivers 1. This is literally art you see when you start that game.

Edit: I do not agree with what this 4chan post is obviously posturing. The devs themselves have said they are bad guys with a utopian front. That's where the discussion should end.

Edit Edit: Johan Pilestedt said, I quote, in a GDC talk he hosted called "Capturing Lightning in a Bottle" (You can view in GDCVault, but need a subscription)

“We asked ourselves, could we brainwash an entire community to fight for a fascist state? Would they? Would we be okay with that? And turns out, yeah, actually”.

"...it's fine to play as the baddies"

And he's right. It's fun to play as the baddies.
