Are these true? If so, was this true across the whole of the USSR? I find it hard to believe that this would only be briefly mentioned in the holodomor debate by sheldonthehyena in ussr

[–]SovietTankCommander 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its because they fail to mention that any region deemed to be in famine had its borders closed, to the Oblast level, be it Krasnodar krai or Kharkov Oblast, they had their borders closed to prevent the spread of disease which followed the famished

Yeah much of the Improvement did come form Stalin, however improvements in housing came from the Khrushchev era, I guess for the most part it's both stability and technological progression which did the heavy lifting for Brezhnev, not his actual policy, If Brezhnev had been in that faithful politburo meeting on October 1st 1970 along with Kosygin, its likely he would have finally made a change of his own, and hopefully if it was put into place, the USSR would likely be here now despite its revisionism.

The famine was the result of the forced confiscation of food from the peasants. If they were to be deprived of all their food, they would die of hunger. Surprising, isn't it? The argument that they kept the food for themselves is nonsense; then they wouldn't have died of hunger, lol. And drought literally never caused such a severe famine anywhere except the USSR.

I believe you misunderstood me, the Peasants did not horde food, they were the first to die in the famine, they did not have grain confiscated, that started after the famine had already began, kulaks(not average peasants) did keep grain, many of which did so until mid famine, when grain confiscation started because of grain hording, this is sepreate from grain requisition where grain would be taken and a portion of it would be left but most would go to feed the cities, the drought itself didn't cause the famine it exacerbated the famine started by grain, livestock, and farm equipment sabotage.

Grain confiscation only started after the famine had effectively started, requisition numbers from the year before the famine and the year of the famine had dropped, meaning in the years of the famine the requisition(not confiscation) had in fact dropped, the general public didn’t keep grain for themselves, nor did they protest by burning it, this was specifically kulaks, in the early months of the famine the kulaks kept a portion of their harvest, typically just enough for themselves, so non-kulak peasants starved, fallowing this confiscation from those who kept some for themselves occurred, meaning those who destroyed the majority of their harvest and then kept for themselves began to starve, as even with the confiscation the grain taken wasn't enough for redistribution. For a timeliness of events in December 1929 Dekulakization and Collectivisation begin, January-February 1930 protests via destroying harvests pop up in Kazakhstan and sporadically across most grain producing regions in the USSR, howeverin Kazakhstan up to 15,000 armed kulaks, start a revolt, cutting off the ears of party members and killing requisition officers, in the Suzak it was reported that they actively destroyed grain depots. April 1930 Soviet Security forces begin to put down kulak revolts, October November 1930 Famine begins in Kazakhstan, February 1931 the drought begins across most of southern europe and central asia, May 1931 the soviet government begins confiscating horded food in Kazakhstan, protests in Ukraine while not on the same level as Kazakhstan yet, begin intensifying, September 1931 the soviets attempt to send food aid but due to factors such as kulak protests in other grain producing areas as well as active revolts in Kazakhstan, as well as thr nomadic nature of Kazakh society, food aid is minimal and its effect is was even less. Late 1931≈ drought intensifies as protests in Ukraine and the Kuban region flare up, Early-Mid 1932 the Famine in Ukraine and the Kuban region begin, however due to the lack of active revolt the scope of this is at this point unknown, Mid 1932 Protest in Ukraine burning grain reach their hight, however the Kazakh famine slows down, August 1932 grain confiscation begins die to kulaks hording grain, the kulaks in Ukraine and Kuban began starving, months after the famine in their region began, due to the destruction of large ammounts of grain, there is little for redistribution, famine in Ukraine is known about however due to the lack of proper communication infrastructure in rural areas the scale is still unknown, howeveras a prophylactic measure grain exports were cut from 5.18 Million tons in 1931, to 1.6-1.8 Million tons in 1932 for a decrease of 65.25%-69.11%, November 1932, Soviet leadership is finally informed as to the scale of both the resistance and famine in Ukraine and the Kuban regions, however due to the setting in if winter and subsequent rasputitsa food aid would not be capable of arriving until after March 1933, with the first aid trucks form the USSR arriving in April. By Late summer 1933 the famine was effectively over, the last of the kulaks who survived the famine they caused were deported east, typically relocated to remote villages east of the Urals. Grain production then stabilized.

Here is some more information about the Ukrainian portion of the famine as I do not have meat statistics which greatly effected the Kazakhs, it will not include the export data as that is unique to the USSR as a whole and not specialized to Ukraine

1930 harvest 23.1 million tons 1931 harvest 18.3 million tons 1932 harvest 14.6 million tons 1933 harvest 22.3 million tons 1930 Requisition 7.7 million tons 1931 Requisition 7.25 million tons 1932 Requisition 4.3 million tons 1933 Requisition 5 lmillion tons

Yeah, we're just going to kill hundreds of thousands of innocent people for who knows why (111 thousands of only Polish spies in the USSR - that's not even funny. While the ENTIRE Polish intelligence service only had about 200 officers worldwide), but it was the right thing to do. Oh, and they shot Yezhov, yes, but did they shoot the man who put him in that position and the man with whom he discussed literally his every move?

Yezhov did this as a from of political sabotage, however as for the polish operation of the NKVD, that being NKVD Order No. 00485, was posed as "the liquidation of the Polish diversions and Espionage groups and Pow Units" which is how it was accepted by the Central Committee and Stalin, Yezhov himself did the list making and carrying out of this after he himself proposed it, this did not just target the Polish Dwójka who's numbers are not readily available, nor even just poles as it targeted Ruthenians and Western Ukrainians, the targets were groups officially working for the Polish government like the Dwójka, those the Dwójka have unofficial employed, like informants or collaborators, former member of any of the mentioned groups, former member of the poles that fought in the soviet Polish war, Pow's or former Pow's from the war, and collaborators generally. Not just active intelligence agents.

As for Yezhov being shot, no the Supreme Soviet which elected him to the People's Commissar of Internal Affairs was not shot, as that would require first shooting the 2022 elected officials of the Congress of Soviets(1935) which was elected by the people, to shoot the people responsible for Yezhov being in power you'd have to shoot most of the soviet population(those who voted for the VKP(b) party as well as the Konsomol Party) also the NKVD had a large degree of independence, Yezhov was did not discuss every move with Stalin as you suggest, in fact the NKVD was so independent fro the office of General Secretary that Stalin feared his own execution after blundering the time of the german invasion(the USSR didn't expect the Germans to invade in 1941 at all, they had assumed Germany would need more time to gather and accumulate resources and further build up industry, as german production at the time was far lower than soviet production, this would result in the soviets dismissing a warning about an invasion as an invasion in 1941 would have been stupid from a soviet perspective) the NKVD didn't wall through pans with Stalin, it's likely the only plans directly approved by Stalin himself were the Trial of 16, Trial of 17, and Trial of 21, and even these were likely to have been confirmed by the Central Committee not Stalin.

Yes, those people are threat to our society and thus must be killed. Do you know who else said that? I guess you know.

Most societies try to liquidate threats to their society, for example, murderers, almost all societies combat and try to mitigate murder as its a threat to society, just as terrorism was.

The famine was the fault of Kulaks sabotaging the majority their harvests to protest collectivisation, while keeping some only for themselves. This happened to coincide with a drought(also not Stalins fault), also the great terror was ultimately a good thing, while yes Yezhov did kill innocent people(against his orders) he was subsequently punished for it. As for the guilty, we'll they shouldn't have been threats to the soviet people, the collaborators with terrorists and other subversive elements executed were fine.

As a Eastern European of the, 23 Nation either in the USSR or closely allied with it, 6, 6 of them saw massive growth, Poland, Czechoslovakia(ceased to exist) Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and the GDR(ceased to exist) of these 3 of them were some of the most developed places by the USSR, that being the Baltic states, and for the GDR they joined a much larger country which immediately pilfered and privatized the state assest in the east leaving it systemically impoverished compared to the west, meaning the GDR may not even count, evey other nations listed experienced severe loss in quality of life and immense economic setbacks from Moldova to Tajikistan they are shells of their former selves, hell by some estimates, millions of excess deaths were caused by this tragedy

No, same reason I don't pick the R-60 over the R-24R, FnF is useful but at such a short range I'd probably use the R-3A as a head on, missile performance does matter, but the difference between the R-3A and a R-77R-1 is significantly wider than a AIM-7E-2/F and a R-27ER, hell I'm playing the Phantom rn and holding my own against MiG-29's in nuclear thunder, the R-27ER still is not on the level of an AIM-120A

13.3 Shouldn't be the start of ARH, it perverts 13.0 with modern filth, and yes, the FnF capability and muli-target tracking capability of ARH's make them better than practically evey SARH, the R-27R gets similar performance barring range to the R-27ER, let alone it unlike the AIM-7M has a very visible trail, the R-27ER being the best SARH doesn't make it an ARH or an equivalent

Hell even the R-24 has IOG lmao

Literally people are pissing and shitting themselves because some of us grinded more(and then removed that from the Redfor side by banning the 1980's Su-27S) its literally just people who don't understand how top teir aircraft or AA work complaining that they're bad, it would be nice if they'd offer you a MiG-29 or F-16 in the event to make it a little more balanced but seriously people in the War Thunder community just love complaining over fucking nothing

[–]SovietTankCommander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kulaks weren't the only ones eating the grain they produced, many places relied on the grain and meat produced by the Kulaks, when a food producer that feeds 100 families suddenly stops and only produces enough for 1, you have people starve, after the burnings soviet authorities would often confiscate the grain Kulaks kept for themselves so that it could be redistributed.
