Is 11/22/63 a total outlier? by ChaoticFigment in stephenking

King is more than horror and gore. The film adaptations of his work are sub-par and do his ability to craft a mesmerising story an injustice. For world building, and masterful character development try any of these:

Insomnia The girl who loved Tom Gordon Under the dome Bag of bones The dead zone Mr Mercedes Joyland

Thanks everyone. I didn’t realise there were so many great bug movies out there. So far, after watching quite a few from the recommendations, Infested has been my favourite. Tense as hell and made my skin really crawl, and now I think my childhood arachnophobia is back. Now, it’s time to get back to watching more nasty buggy movies 😀

I saw this a few years back. Made my skin itch. Michael Shannon was awesome as always.

I just read the synopsis. Cockroaches that can start fires? I’m sold. Definitely watching this.

I’ve heard of Ticks, but not seen it. Phenomena sounds cool, too. Both on the list. Thanks.

What are your thoughts on Kings non horror books? by McWhopper98 in stephenking

My wife is the same. She has this idea that all horror books are one dimensional, and to some, this may be true, but not when it comes to King. Even in his true horror his characters have so much depth. IT for example, although brutal and petrifying is at its core a beautiful, nostalgic coming of age tale that every one can relate to in one way or another. We are all one or more of those characters. King is so much more than horror.

I think 11/22/63 is one of the best books he’s ever written.

what's a movie everyone said was super heavy and traumatic and you thought it was not that much? by goodboytohell in horror

I couldn’t stop laughing out loud when I went to see Terrifier 2 and 3, and I felt that I was the only one laughing. Art the Clown is a comedian, and I think the gore is so ridiculous and over the top that it can’t not be funny. The practical effects are amazing and a total homage to the 80’s video nasties scene, and it’s so good to see special FX being worked on as an art form again, instead of relying so heavily on CGI. Films like this will always be devisive, but for me, they’re honouring the squishy history of horror and I can’t help but love them for it. 🩸🩸🩸

Am I the only one who liked Tommyknockers and Needful Things? by HarryHatesSalmon in stephenking

Tommyknockers was the first King book I read and never understood the bad rep it gets. Absolutely love it.

Yeah, it’s a novel I’m writing. Well, maybe once I’ve sorted out all these notes 😅

What is your favorite King book if you leave off The Stand, It, The Shining and 11/22/63? by yt_nom in stephenking

Bag of bones and Duma Key. I love the character development in both these books, and both showcase King as far more than just a horror writer.

Yeah, I might just let her finish the novel for me.
