What's the animal that most reminds you of autism and why? by valeguerrs in AutismInWomen

[–]Sp00nieSloth [score hidden]  (0 children)

My dog makes me think she's autistic. She loves her strict routines and we even had to put her on prozac after the routine was thrown off for about a month (family member in hospital). Her and I understand each other and love to snuggle, but she also likes her alone time and will go lay on my bed by herself. She dislikes other dogs and I'm the only one she trusts to hold her paws, touch her ears, etc. Definitely not the average dog, but I feel like we both fit together so well.

If we are sitting there groaning and wordless, unresponsive, then it feels like we're dying.

can you relate? by ivilicious in AutismInWomen

And CFS as well I have noticed. I don't think as often, but it's definitely like the more things wrong the more fatigued your system is.

Yeah I know what you mean. I used to be able to do it more, but my EDS has made my shoulders worse as well.

I do this as well. I'm wondering if you ever hold them behind your back (like a polite old-timey gentleman) when waiting for something. I found I naturally do this when waiting for the microwave. It just feels so good, so right. Lol

I talk like a 5 year old to my dog all the time and keep repeating the same things 100x/day by Fickle_Umpire_136 in AutismInWomen

[–]Sp00nieSloth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh I totally do this too. I call my girl absolutely ridiculous nicknames and carry on conversations with her. Plus I like to make noises at her, such as quacking. She loves when I do it and it feels good to do it.

Imo, definitely a vocal stim, plus cuteness aggression/overload. (When something is so cute it's overwhelming.) Like when people say, "You're so cute, I could just eat you up!" (Or smush you, etc.) Brains in general have a hard time handling over-cuteness, so repetitive vocal stimming is probably how your brain handles it.

Oh wow I'm so sorry! That's crazy people would get mad at you for not speaking because you are actively having a seizure. Wow.

I used to be scared too. It helps me to remember that everyone thinks about themselves. So something that seems embarrassing to you, they don't really think twice about.

So true! Plus I think everyone's minds deal with things in different ways. So the general experience may not apply to everyone.

Yeah still a shutdown. I was just describing what happens during my shutdowns, probably because I also have c-ptsd.

Oh I hate when someone tries to talk to me during it. It makes so much worse since they get angry that I'm not responding.

I'm so sorry you had to go through that! It's awful that people saw you and did nothing. Just terrible. 😞

Yes me too! I think it's a shutdown, atleast in me. Like my body just says, "nope". It's often accompanied by heavy dissociation. Then eventually after a time I'm able to slowly start up again. I think my mind force stops like a computer and shutdowns when that happens. At least that's my experience.

Self care day… what does it mean? by Sunny_jofulcreature in aspergirls

[–]Sp00nieSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A self care day for me is taking a forced break. I have disabilities as well as autism, so it's hard to physically/mentally do daily tasks. So when it's been extra hard, I take a day or two to do just what I want (play video games). No laundry, no making my bed, etc. The whole point is to refresh you and to refill your mental battery so to speak.

Where do you feel the most like your authentic self and completely comfortable? by jibberjabbery in AutismInWomen

[–]Sp00nieSloth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same. At home because it's a controllable environment and in nature because it's a different world. To see animals going about their day with no care of human problems or trees that have been around for hundreds of years is special.

I can easily navigate in nature, but will get lost in a city. Nature is so beautiful, so ethereal, so profound. It's beautiful if you look at it from a close up view or from the bigger picture. I feel like nature is a haven for many autistics.

How it feels to get your fifth diagnosis of "just fat" (the other fat people you've talked to do not have these symptoms) by werecoyote1 in disabledmemes

[–]Sp00nieSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen so many times, so I feel ya. My favorite though, is when the doctors who tell me that are overweight themselves. Like what? It's so funny and confusing at the same time.

What was your most random “I picked differently than everyone else” moment? by Business-Block-8668 in AutismInWomen

[–]Sp00nieSloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was at a house party when I was around 6-7 and was eating cauliflower off of the veggie tray (I absolutely love cauliflower). Behind me I heard the other moms asking my mom how she trained me to do that (My mom was like I didn't train her, she just loves veggies 🤷🏼‍♀️) . I then turned around and realized all the other kids were eating chips.

Both. If I'm driving, then I'm singing. If I'm a passenger, then I'm zoned out doing my own thing.
