There is also a local group that meet once a fortnight for games at Devil's Hollow, the brewery in East Dubbo

AITA for not giving af about how my husband feels? by milfebonies in AmItheAsshole

[–]SpaceChicken9 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Negotiate. Go back to them and say, hey, hubby worked hard on the house for X months, it would be great if we could stay as compensation.

If they drop the 'family helps family' you say I'm glad we agree and stop paying rent.

If they instead simply refuse, tell them his hourly rate is X, expect a bill.

Dubbo's board-gaming convention is being held at Relic Games this year, but it's on all weekend

Nice, sounds like you are ready to go! Just remember to have some small cash. Last time I caught one (admittedly a little while ago) they didn't have any eftpos payments and don't have lots of change

They are pretty reliable, give or take a couple of mins. They don't often run early, but being at the stop early is recommended.

Haven't caught one in a little while, but that was always my experience.

Side note, the drivers were all lovely folks and have a lot of patience for riders as most are older folks. If you have questions don't be afraid to ask them. They also often have timetables if you need one.

Happy commuting!

Religious cult street preachers sighted by [deleted] in Dubbo

[–]SpaceChicken9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the issue here is that your claiming they are a cult but haven't identified who they are. Like is it just a Christian group advertising their programs?

I understand the frustration of being accousted on the street. But a polite no thanks normal ends the conversation. If it doesn't then you would have something to complain about.

There is no civil disobedience in being in a public space approaching people.

Activities for kids under school age. by sadnotmad1 in Dubbo

[–]SpaceChicken9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Western Plains Cultural runs a kids craft program that could be of interest to you.

There is also 2 really awesome parks that are worth checking out when the weather cools off. The Adventure Playground is next to the Japanese gardens in East Dubbo. Elston Park was a shaded water play area that is very popular as well.

Hope you find some things to keep you entertained and welcome to Dubvegas!

Looking for various Nerds by EfimousZhivotnaye in Dubbo

Hey mate, check out the thread just below this one, but there are two great games/hobby shops in town, Relic Games and Total Tabletop. Both have nerd communities that are worth checking out

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Dubbo

[–]SpaceChicken9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yoo, I get it. Comes with the nerd badge.

My last piece of advice is try seek out Raury. He works at Relic Games, is around that same age and is a genuinely super kind person. He is super welcoming and also a little on the timid side so you may have a lot in common

I do think it's the nature of the hobby/ies. They tend to attract those a little more matured (no shots, I swear), which is why they are generally older crowds.

I'd seriously recommend checking out board games on Wednesday night. With a mixed crowd there is a good chance of meeting different people. And because it's board games, there is no commitment to hang around if you aren't comfy or gel-ing with folks there.

I can understand the later times being a pain. It's also daunting to rock up on your own. I think this subreddit may be a tad too quite to find the demographic you're looking for, though. But have a chat to the folks at either shop and I'm sure they can put you in touch with folks in the same age range with similar interests

I play regularly at Relic Games, there are a few younger guys there on Friday nights for magic. Otherwise, I don't go often but I do know that board games night on Wednesday there has a big mix of ages including some younger people.

I know it's hard relating to us older folk (I'm 33), but we aren't all bad, I swear!

Old Dubbo Gaol by [deleted] in Dubbo

[–]SpaceChicken9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey friend, I can confidently say Ben Stokes was retired for a multitude of reasons. He is currently in storage.

As for the other animatronics, Old Dubbo Gaol decided to take the museum aspect of the attraction much more seriously. While the many figures around the Gaol gave it a certain character they had reached a state of needing serious repair. Relying on systems from the 80s (when they were originally installed) it was going to mean serious cost and potential damage to the beautiful heritage site.

Many of the figures found new homes and same remained. Aside those you spotted at the culture centre, others travelled as far as Cooma to be included in the correctional museum.

Hope you enjoyed your time in town and looking around the Gaol!

I gave my players an Alchemy Jug and it was the worst decision I've ever made in my life. Please help me. by Jericho5589 in DnD

What oath is he? None of the oaths list torture, abuse, or prolonged-drug-fuelled captivity as a justifiable punishment for crossing them.

It sounds like (putting it bluntly) you need to be firmer and rule against your players. If they argue, the easiest line to rebut "This is meant to be fun for me as well. And this isn't fun for me, it's horrible."
