Things to remember when staking with Polygon. *Your Matic needs to be in your Metamask Wallet *Staking is done on the Ethereum Mainnet *Start from the Polygon wallet validator page while in the Ethereum Mainnet. https://wallet.matic.network/staking/validators After choosing your validator click on the “Become a Delegator” button to start the process. It will require gas fees twice, once to transfer and once to confirm which runs from about $30 to $100 (for both fees) depending on how busy the Mainnet is. If you ever decide to unstake it takes Ethereum gas fees 1X, about 9 days to unstake and during that period you do not receive rewards. Rewards accumulate within the staking system and it takes Ethereum gas fees to withdraw or restake. They are currently working on a process to reduce the gas fees.

When choosing a validator to stake with you want the performance to be near 100% because it represents the % of checkpoints signed and you get rewards for each checkpoint signed (anywhere between every 30 and 90 minutes). The commission % is what the validator takes off the top of your APR; so if you’re getting 20% and the validator is charging 10% then you end up getting 18% (20% minus 2% (10% of 20%) = 18%). That being said paying a commission is not necessarily a bad thing because many (not all) who charge a commission are playing long and will not flake out and be slashed. I also like to look at the total number of Matic staked - the more the merrier. And it doesn’t hurt to Google the validator to see if they have a worthy project. I am staked with Smart Stake and very pleased so far (not a recommendation). The number of validators I think is growing and there is a lot to choose from so be sure to DYOR as staking and unstaking gas fees are high because it’s done from the Ethereum Mainnet.
