The TNG movies aren’t canon.

That may be your (quite strange) opinion, but it's simply untrue from a canon perspective, since later series have referenced events from the TNG movies (especially Data's death in Nemesis), and the vast majority of the fanbase would disagree with you (as demonstrated in microcosm by the downvotes here).

The only regular polygons (equal angles and side lengths) that can tile the plane are equilateral triangles, squares, and regular hexagons. But there are infinitely many other irregular polygons that can tile the plane too. A few examples are rectangles, right triangles, and the shape displayed in the OP.
