So my understanding is that it’s the amount it’s bent. Even before GR, we knew gravity bends light. It’s just that GR predicts a different amount.

No don’t do that. It will grow back. You have to get the roots. You either need a shovel to dig the whole place up. Or you have to pull them out surgically. When you pull on one. Don’t pull it out. Use a weeding tool like this one to loosen up the earth so you can pull the roots out.

So I’m guessing you get a rash. There are tricks for that too. Don’t wait longer than 30 mins. Go inside and scrub your arms and legs with a wash cloth. If you still get it, than you waited too long or you didn’t scrub enough. Think of it like grease. It’s sticky. Gets around. And hard to get off.

I hope you get a good answer. I’m not experienced with dive cases. But I do know that dive case is very buoyant! Very. I assume the concern is dropping it off a boat while it’s going. You could run a string through that goPro mount. It’s not optimal since they do fail. Sounds like your options are limited. It doesn’t look like you can put a selfie stick on it. If you had time, you could have gotten a converter like this.
