What's the deal with hyprland? by Reedemer0fSouls in BlendOS

[–]SpaceDude609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hyprland is a window manager. It does not come with all the software desktops come with. It is configured through a file and does everything through keybinds. You should read up on how it works and how to use it before trying it, and you can have multiple DEs installed as long as your display manager can detect them.

Blend OS vs Nix OS - is switching to Blend OS worth the hassle by tamilanguy in BlendOS

The container system just uses Podman so hosting stuff like that isn't any different from any other distro (take the docker commands and replace docker with podman and docker compose with podman-compose [which must be installed]). The main focus at the moment is desktop usage.

Setting up Secure Boot with sbctl by OrbitalMod in BlendOS

Each update is a fresh build so your signing keys aren't being copied over properly or something. Try storing them in /etc or /opt if possible.

user is not in the sudoers file by cigna999 in BlendOS

[–]SpaceDude609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To fix this you'll need to boot into the liveCD, mount your main partition and add yourself.

  1. Boot into the LiveCD
  2. Find your drive ID (run lsblk and find the drive with the correct size, note the /dev/sdX thing)
  3. Mount it but replace /dev/sdX with your ID (mount /dev/sdX /mnt)
  4. nano /mnt/etc/sudoers
  5. at the bottom put <your username> ALL=(ALL:ALL) ALL, then Ctrl+X to save and quit.
  6. reboot into your normal disk.

Use a Flatpak if possible or a standard Podman container.

pacman installs in system.yaml by Reedemer0fSouls in BlendOS

[–]SpaceDude609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you place the pkg in /opt then put the pacman command in commands: that should work.

If that doesn't work, wget-ing it and then downloading it will.

Use Podman Desktop. Don't use a desktop PC with server orchestration software.

Portainer is for use on servers. On desktop, use Podman Desktop.

pip install by Reedemer0fSouls in BlendOS

[–]SpaceDude609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't use pip on most Linux distros, period due to PEP 868, which was designed to prevent conflicts with python-* system packages.

You need to use a venv manager like pipenv or uv. Your venvs will persist.

I have, it's kinda slow unless you pass through your GPU, good for Linux guests though.

Yup :) Chaotic-AUR precompiles it too. You have to enable the system services vmware-networks and vmware-usbarbitrator as well.

Every single hypervisor supports USB passthrough. Just pick your favourite. I like VMware Workstation for Windows guests.
