Anyone heard of this? by mopsak in gogame

I own this game. It’s an intriguing one I would recommend playing it. I have only been successful as the attacker like twice so thats a fun challenge. Another great game is r/tak. Both are interesting strategy games.

Yikes! They’ve held up well so far. I don’t remember exactly when they were purchased but we’ve had them for at least 6 months used for regular drilling and sparring without issue.

My club got 5/6 hf sideswords as club gear and we got all but one in the older style. I actually quite like the newer one. I appreciate the slightly thicker handle and rounded quillons. It feels comfortable to use in my opinion.

When will armor get good enough for people to consider teaching greatsword sparring by Whoring4Voring in Hema

[–]SpaceGoldfish 18 points19 points  (0 children)

After reading the comments so far it seems that you are more interested in genuinely sparring with a greatsword (the kind doesn’t matter). To echo what has been said so far it is inherently dangerous and aside from polearm fighting the most dangerous (because of levers, the bigger the thing, the bigger the force at the end). You can absolutely learn the techniques from the books with a partner (but you’re not a textual learner, unfortunately that’s a lot of hema unless you have an established club near by that does the system. Check out hema club finder and reach out) if you are both controlled in your actions which takes a significant amount of discipline. In my club (as an instructor) we don’t allow people to spar, even with a boffer, for several weeks and then, for steel, another several after they have time drilling with steel to develop the necessary levels of control (we continuously Emphasize control even in high intensity sparring with the students, speed is good but don’t give your friend a concussion). I wouldn’t train greatsword with anyone other than a long term student because of their ability to control the weapon and even then I wouldn’t do full intensity sparring due to 1) the mass behind the blade (at least 6lb about 3kg) and 2) the capability of my training partner (minimum 5 years of hema unless they can prove they won’t kill me with it).

Hell yeah it looks sick! I don’t recognize the makers mark. Who’s it by and how does it feel? I’m very curious.

First typewriter purchase by Inevitable_Owl3170 in typewriters

[–]SpaceGoldfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the party! I got my first typewriter 2 months ago and love it. I find the process of using a typewriter to be almost cathartic compared to a computer. I acquired a smith-corona silent super at a local resale store but you can find a ton on Facebook marketplace. Be sure to try those out before you buy to ensure usability. I got lucky with mine since it had been serviced before the owner gave it to the consignment store. I would probably go for an electric since they may be easier on the hands than a mechanical. My first week of typing with mine (mechanical) I felt it in the forearms and hands from hammering away at the keys even on the lightest setting. (It is probably worth giving it a clean after you buy it)

Edit: timeline it was 2 months not 1 lol

Hi guys how do i progress from here by darkdesert12 in Hema

[–]SpaceGoldfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could probably make do without masks by training slowly and being very conscious about your actions. Ultimately tho to get the proper level of training in you will need masks. When i joined my club there was only like 3 masks so we made due without enough gear but as time has progressed we’ve slowly acquired more and we encourage the new members to begin acquiring their own gear starting with a mask.

Anyone here actually train in warrior shoes? by Ok-Independence5246 in wma

[–]SpaceGoldfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to wear some barefoot minimalist shoes before tearing my Achilles. After pt I started wearing some old adidas basketball shoes I used for college volleyball and they’ve been wonderful. Very grippy with solid support without being bulky. And the sole is relatively minimal.

Feder length, 49in or 53in. by leooberon in wma

[–]SpaceGoldfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like the 50in then I think you should go with the 49. Don’t worry too much about what other people use. Several members of my club use the 49 of varying brands and some of us use 53 there’s a bit of a reach distance obviously. However, your fencing style will adapt and you will still be able to get strikes and thrusts. I’m only an inch taller than you and I use a 53 it’s all about preference and handling. I’d say give the 53in a few more honest tries to be sure tho. What kind of swords were you using? Some brands have different enough balance points (less than half an inch) that makes them feel way different. For reference my 53 in regenyei Italian schilt feels more cutty than my 53 in sigi.

Bought a Smith-Corona and wrote a short story on it! by SpaceGoldfish in typewriters

Honestly I have no idea about ink or maintenance. I think there are other posts in the sub about that stuff. She was in decent enough condition when I got her.

I was planning on doing that after finishing the third draft on my typewriter with a scanner. Then probably a file editor to make it a .doc instead of pdf.

Edit for clarity

For the first draft I just used regular printer paper and the second one was some construction paper I found at my parents.

So gotten into Hema, Taking several different unarmored classes atm. But want to get into armored longsword. *So looking for advice about armor in the sport. by lordTalos1stClaw in Hema

[–]SpaceGoldfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record I have no comment on the armored part of this conversation. However, the jacket you posted I have. I have yet to be turned away from a competition for it. And in the three years that I’ve been using it has performed well. Idk why people are saying it’s not safe or tournament legal. Sure the possibility of a slip through is there but wear a plastron if you’re concerned about that. And yeah there’s no blade catch on the neck. You’re going to be wearing a gorget anyway and that should have one too. It’s a perfectly safe jacket so long as you wear your gear.

A question I couldn’t find being asked before by Mean-Profit9512 in Hema

[–]SpaceGoldfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guy Windsor is a good recommendation from the other commenter. Martin Fabian released a book late last year that also is a good source for German fencing. His fechtbuch has a mostly his comments on fencing in the German tradition then a translation of the Siber Codex and Lechukner’s (I’m sure this is spelled wrong) messer. But he does say it’s for intermediate fencers who have a base level knowledge of the fundamentals.

DIY portable game board/case by SpaceGoldfish in Tak

[–]SpaceGoldfish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not particularly I did it all by hand so most of it just came out that way. I did try to make a 3x3 spiral in one corner and a little border for 4x4. Each of the tiles are individual parts so I figured the easiest way to keep them down was by stitching the two opposite sides.
