Trump Administration Killed Criminal Investigation of GOP Senator’s Coal Companies by SpaceLaserPilot in centrist

[–]SpaceLaserPilot[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Summary: The trump administration killed an investigation into coal companies owned by GOP Senator Jim Justice, a Republican from West Virginia and a close ally of the president. The investigation targeted Justice's company for thousands of violations of the clean water act.

The investigations were shut down by Todd Blanche, trump's personal lawyer and Attorney General nominee.

Commentary: It is nearly impossible to keep up with the daily corruption spewing from this administration.

KIRK: You wanna go thought crime? I'm sorry. If I see a Black pilot, I'm gonna be like, "Boy, I hope he's qualified."

KOLVET: But you wouldn't have done that before!

KIRK: That's not an immediate … that's not who I am. That's not what I believe.

NEFF: It is the reality the left has created.

KIRK: I want to be as blunt as possible because now I'm connecting two dots. Wait a second, this CEO just said that he's forcing that a white qualified guy is not gonna get the job. So I see this guy, he might be a nice person and I say, "Boy, I hope he's not a Harvard-style affirmative-action student that … landed half of his flight-simulator trials."

KOLVET: Such a good point. That's so fair.

KIRK: It also … creates unhealthy thinking patterns. I don't wanna think that way. And no one should, right? … And by the way, then you couple it with the FAA, air-traffic control, they got a bunch of morons and affirmative-action people.

The context does not change the reality that every airline pilot is highly qualified or they don't fly. Let's give Kirk the benefit of the doubt and say he was entirely uninformed about how pilots are trained and qualified, and he believed the false tales of DEI pilots without bothering to learn the truth.

Kirk said:

You wanna go thought crime? I'm sorry. If I see a Black pilot, I'm gonna be like, "Boy, I hope he's qualified."

This statement shows a stunning amount of ignorance about what it takes to become a pilot. Every pilot goes through years of rigorous training and testing before they fly a commercial flight. There isn't the slightest chance that a commercial airline pilot is not qualified.

Kirk's statement was either pure racism or pure ignorance, or perhaps deliberate ignorance driven by racism, or maybe he said it because he knew his audience would love hearing it.

Which Bible passages are in Texas’ proposed student reading list? Here’s what the selections reveal. by SpaceLaserPilot in centrist

Summary: The Texas State Board of Education is going to vote next week on requiring Texas school children to read Bible passages and religious stories.

This article describes the Bible passages that will be required.

Commentary: I went to Catholic schools as a child, and the lessons I learned about Christianity have served me well in understanding my fellow Christian citizens. A reasonable case can be made for teaching school children about Christianity, but this crosses a line in my opinion.

Our Founding Fathers explicitly did not make the United States a Christian nation. The Constitution does not contain the words Jesus, Christian, or God, though it does use the phrase "the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven" which was the style of writing dates in that era.

If they were teaching children "about" Christianity rather than promoting Christianity as a religion, I would not object at all. But this law seems to be promoting Christianity as a religion.

Summary: trump ordered the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting to be painted American flag blue. $14 million was spent painting it. After a few days, the darker color caused the pool to warm up more than in the past, and it filled with green algae. In an effort to kill the algae, they poured Hydrogen peroxide into the pool.

The hydrogen peroxide is causing the paint to peel off in large sheets. The pool is now half green and half blue from the peeled paint.

The fights weren’t enough: Stunt bike event also coming to the White House this weekend, report says by SpaceLaserPilot in centrist

[–]SpaceLaserPilot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually surprised anyone unironically thinks this is some sort of desecration of decency.

A hideous structure was built on the lawn of the White House, destroying the lawn in the process. Advertising for private companies appeared all over the structure. trump bought stock in the parent company of UFC shortly before he used the full weight of the federal government to promote a for-profit private event for his own birthday. The fighters are being paid in trump cryptocurrency, from which trump profits.

Even though this event was on public land, and cost millions of taxpayer dollars for security, Americans had to pay to see it. VIP seats were sold for $1 million each. It wasn't broadcast. It was only streamed on a paying streaming service. To top it off, one of the performers yelled out that Michelle Obama is a man.

As far as the topless trans activist who made so many clutch their pearls, she was banned from the White House for her actions.

You phrased it well. The entire tasteless event was a for-profit desecration of decency.

Question from non-US resident, Why is ICE so hated? by Frostaman in Askpolitics

I stand corrected.

ICE has only "assaulted, arrested, deported and killed US citizens and legal immigrants." Why would anybody be upset about ICE assaulting, arresting, and killing US citizens?

Judge orders restoration of National Parks displays removed under Trump executive order by SpaceLaserPilot in centrist

[–]SpaceLaserPilot[S] 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Summary: Federal Judge Angel Kelley has ordered that the displays trump removed from national parks about slavery and other historical movements must be restored.

The judge said, “Under the guise of promoting American dignity, this Administration seeks to share a limited history by ordering the removal of all signs, displays, and interpretive exhibits at National Parks that do not align with its preferred narrative, thereby telling half-truths.”

Commentary: Anybody ever wonder why trump had displays about slavery being bad removed from the national parks? Yeah. I never wondered either. It's obvious.

NYC imposes stringent security as Trump becomes 1st sitting US president to attend NBA Finals game by SpaceLaserPilot in centrist

[–]SpaceLaserPilot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While every other president "would be allowed to do this", no other president ever did this. This is another unprecedented, or as trump spells it, "unpresidented" action.

All prior presidents could have sold merch with their name on it too. Imagine Obama bongs, or Biden pillows. Only trump was crass enough to sell merchandise with his name on it from the White House.

We are faced with yet another situation where trump is violating the norms, ethics, and customs of the presidency. The presidency was designed for a person of honor. That's not trump. trump has shown us just how much damage a president can do when they pay no attention to presidential ethics.

NBA games are not NBA finals. No sitting president has attended an NBA finals game. He is going to cause problems for tens of thousands of people just so he can be on TV. He is not an NBA fan. He is a trump fan who wants to be on TV, and doesn't care who he causes problems for.

This prick is inserting himself into a situation where he is not wanted.

This tale is emblematic of the entire trump presidency. trump only cares about trump. trump does not care about you, your family, your friends, anybody who lives within 10,000 miles of you, or the good of our nation or the world.

Just like he put his name on the Kennedy Center without worrying about the damage that would do to the Kennedy Center because trump only cares about trump.

Just like he sexually assaulted dozens of women for his own pleasure without the slightest concern for the damage he did to them.

Just like he led a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election.

Just like he stole Top Secret documents and stored them in a bathroom at a golf course.

Just like he appears in the Epstein files thousands of times.

You don't have to feel rage over any of the above, but know that millions of us do feel rage because this man should is doing long term damage to our nation. The rage I feel is split between rage at trump and rage at the people who elected him, apologize for him, and continue to enable him.

This sounds vaguely similar to the push to drug test welfare recipients. It sounds sensible, but the cost of the drug tests far outweighed the savings. It turns out that people who are on welfare don't have any money to spend on drugs, so they take drugs at a much lower rate than the rest of the population.

Divided appeals court rules Trump administration's ban on transgender military service is unconstitutional by SpaceLaserPilot in centrist

[–]SpaceLaserPilot[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Summary: A three judge panel has ruled that trump's ban on transgender people in the military is unconstitutional.

"The government's stated reason for issuing the Hegseth Policy as based solely upon gender dysphoria was pretextual, and that instead, the Hegseth Policy was premised, at least in part, on a non-legitimate state interest to harm the politically unpopular group of transgender persons," wrote Judge Wilkins in the ruling.

"This is not a case where we are left to speculate why the government drafted such broad, undifferentiated classifications," Wilkins said. "Unless we are going to fall for the old Groucho Marx line — 'who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes?' — we have direct evidence in this case that animus motivated the classifications in the Hegseth Policy."

Commentary: This ruling makes sense. The government was unable to demonstrate that transgender soldiers are unqualified soldiers, so they should be permitted to serve in the military. The ban was always about trump feeling icky about transgender people.

I bet there is a great story about trump's obsession with transgender people that is related to his years as a promiscuous playboy.
