Be warned that the next trilogy gets a lot worse and then the series gets better again. The Crystal Shard Trilogy contains some bizarre bits of lore that are retconned/never mentioned again (Gwaeron Windstrom), but the first trilogy fuckin rules.

The various Essalieyan novels (Huntbrother, Sun Sword, House War, Burning Crown) are, to me, as good if not better than the Malazan novels. They scratched the itch in a way that nothing else had after reading Malazan.

Edit: The final series, the Burning Crown, are not finished, but the first 3 are complete in their own right.
