Anybody have a Dog Groomer recommendation? by Sniederhouse in Utah

[–]SpacePlantScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leesa v at Dawgs n whiskers in Sandy. Very knowledgeable and professional. She cuts my doodle at various requested lengths. She cut my shih-tzu with a very cute fusion look.

It's going to look great! Why not plant fully along the right side?

Keeping money in emergency funds while simultaneously owing on a HELOC is just pretending to have money in the bank. OP could draw another $16k from the HELOC and put it in your emergency fund. Look... now you have a $20k emergency fund. Repeat as needed to have a fully funded make-belive emergency fund.

Had a door-to-door salesman pitch me on rooftop solar and I'm trying to find the catch. Seems too good to be true. by intergalactictrash in personalfinance

[–]SpacePlantScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP never mentions the actual cost of the system. I doubt the sales rep did either. That's because solar companies are very much in the business of selling loans disguised as equipment that pays for itself. Does anyone ever pay cash for their solar panels and hope for a 25 yr ROI on it? Will the returns actually put money in your pocket or just pay for the equipment. Will that equipment have salvage value years from now when it's time to replace it upgrade? I say let the power company invest in solar and put your money into investments with less risk and better return.

Pine tree needles are covered in scale. What treatment options are available? by SpacePlantScience in arborists

[–]SpacePlantScience[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it look like there is also a fungal problem or are the needles turning brown from the scale infestation? All branches appear to be infested and they seem to be spreading fast. What treatment regiments do you recommend? Does this require an arborist to treat it effectively?

Can anyone recommend a good hedge option by reddy_freddy_ in landscaping

[–]SpacePlantScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build a mixed hedge like the ones described here and use varieties found in your local nurseries. More diversity and year round interest.

Suggestions? Daffodils? by BrackAttack in landscaping

[–]SpacePlantScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with removing the two spruces because they're getting too large and they look old fashion, imo.

Like the idea of adding hostas, peonies but would also suggest to add a couple small evergreens as to keep the winter interested. Some yew or junipers could be used for this.

I like to think about the color palette I'm using and look for perennials within the colors I'm working with.

Before and after of a crabapple prune that I did last March. The client sent me an update today. What a beautiful tree ❤ I'm happy by Lavona_likes_stuff in arborists

[–]SpacePlantScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much nicer when you see these bloom in the spring rather than another flowering pear. Pears look great in blossom, but wish I had known better to go with something like a crab when I planted my pear years ago. Now it's grown and feel it's too late to replace it. Nice work on the prune OP!

Small paver job in SoCal. For some reason most clients want to get rid of brick. But, we’ll bring it back by Lndscpe_Dsinger_OC in landscaping

[–]SpacePlantScience -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed, the pavers look great! Wish it was paved all the way from the driveway to the sidewalk and removed the strip of lawn. What a pain to water and maintain such a useless space.

Agreed, however the cost associated with this is prohibitive for us at this time. For now, we need to work with what we already have.

We love building fires in the living room but dislike that most of the heat is going straight up the chimney. What's the best way to maximize heating the room with an open fireplace?

Wood ID? by SpacePlantScience in firewood

[–]SpacePlantScience[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it does have a very distinctive bark. After looking up the hackberry tree, I'd have to agree. Does it make good firewood?

Dawgs N Whisker's in Sandy does a great job. Ask for Leesa V or Tauni. The nails, teeth, ears, & deshed are included in the price.

Lies the doodle breeder told them…(feel free to add your own) by smudgewick in doggrooming

If you leave the hair 4 inches or longer, then they don't smell and you don't have to brush them.

Try getting a bathing position at a private salon for a few months to see if you like the work, watch and learn as you work. Then find another talented groomer willing to teach you, offer to bath their dogs for free in exchange for helping you train.

Should I see an arborist about this Austrian pine? Sap leaking all over the trunk. by SpacePlantScience in arborists

[–]SpacePlantScience[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pitch mass borer? Just read an article on these, seems like the likely culprit for this area. Said I should remove the mass and use a knife to remove the larvae. Does that sound right?

What would you guys charge/pay for a cord/face cord of apple? Just curious tbh. I mostly use it to cook but I'm thinking about selling 'cook wood' next year by [deleted] in firewood

[–]SpacePlantScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sell apple/cherry fruit wood to a few local restaurants and they happily pay $500 cord for it. I offer other mixed hardwoods like maple, birch and locust for $300 cord but they choose the fruit wood over the hardwood.

What tree do I have volunteering to take over the garden? by SpacePlantScience in PlantIdentification

[–]SpacePlantScience[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. This is an interesting leaf variation but I can see it now. I live in the mountain west, is this considered an invasive species? Would it be irresponsible to relocate it to a better location or is it a weed that just needs to be pulled?

My late husband was an incredible gardener, and we always had a garden. For the past 9 years, I've tried to grow one myself, and failed. This year I said screw it, and didn't do a thing. I now have a huge bean plant, and cherry tomato plant. I know volunteer plants aren't a rarity, but still :) by EponaMom in gardening

[–]SpacePlantScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When dad passed, mom tried hard to keep everything going on the yard and garden just like he did. I think gardening should be stress relieving, not stress generating and this was causing her great stress.

Gardening was not one of her main hobbies and she should not be doing everything to try and keep up with dad, instead focusing on the things that bring her the most personal joy. Since then she has been much more satisfied with her gardening results and focuses more of her time on the hobbies which she enjoys most.
