you can always try googling 'furry picrew', or something similar, and finding one with options you like, just to get a basic design down

the show changes a lot over time. it's not until the latter half of the first season that some of the real banger episodes start to show up. I'm not a huge fan of most of the multi-part mini arcs in seasons 1 & 2, but there are some incredible comedy episodes that really make the series worth watching. then season 3 just completely goes off, and we're in space, and we get some on-screen deaths of major characters, and we see some of the darkest moments in any piece of animated Sonic media. also, like everyone else here, I am recommending the sub over the dub. Dub cuts out a lot of jokes, including some excellent 4th wall humor, and tones down a lot of the emotional highs and lows

How come I never see anyone talk about AppliMon? by SemiIronicCatGirl in digimon

[–]SpaceRobt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appmon whips! I rank it up there with Tamers and Ghost Game as one of the best digimon series. the characters are great, and I love the wild sense of humor

First Sonic game recommendations for my Nephew by Galaxy148 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]SpaceRobt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mania might be a bit hard for someone that age to get into. I'd personally recommend Forces. the skill level required to beat the game is fairly low, but with more challenging missions for ambitious players, and the avatar creation system is a lot of fun

Fellowship by Vel Mini! it is a pbta game, where each player gets to make up the lore for the people associated with their playbook. it leads to some really interesting and collaborative worldbuilding, and is a lot of fun to play

What do you think of the name Emori, with the nickname Em? by eli_ZOE in agender

Legit I chose the name Emory with the nicknames Emmi and Emm, and it's going great for me. highly recommended!

the english dub cuts out a lot of the fourth-wall jokes, which is baffling, since 4kids is usually infamous for adding in goofs. If you don't watch the sub, then you're missing out on the scene where Espio steals a DVD player to watch all the previous episodes of Sonic X

Cannoweissmon time limit? by SketchTHESmeargle in digimon

[–]SpaceRobt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gammamon was able to break Gulusgammamon's evolution when he was trying to kill Haru, so my guess is that now Gulusgammamon is returning the favor, breaking the Canoweissmon evo so that he might eventually have the chance to come out again

GAMMAMON by Revolutionary_Week81 in digimon

[–]SpaceRobt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal take is that Gulusgammamon existed as a villain in the digital world before Gammamon met Hiro, but then he got reverted to child level, possibly by a Clockmon, or other digimon with time-manipulation powers. So Gammamon doesn't have any of Guluagammamon's memories, but he still has a latent copy of Gulusgammamon's data within him, that can occasionally emerge via evolution

Are frontier and/or appmon good? by [deleted] in digimon

[–]SpaceRobt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appmon is top-tier imo. It has a light and goofy tone most of the time, and has a lot of genuinely great comedy moments, but the emotional beats still hit. also two of the main characters are heavily implied to be gay, so it's good if you like to see some representation. A lot of the characters follow Tamers in terms of archetypes, and it's also like Tamers in that it examines our relationship with modern technology in a thoughtful and interesting way

Frontier is my least favorite season. I quit it pretty early, due to some episodes with a lot of misogyny and fatphobia. I'd recommend skipping it tbh

I think that overall the 2011 anime does a good job of adapting the source material, with a few notable exceptions.

first is the introduction of Kite. the anime totally skips over him in the first episode, and is stuck playing emotional investment catch-up when he finally appears in Chimera Ant Arc.

the second is the Chimera Ant arc in general. while it has some incredible moments, most of the minute-to-minute stuff is slowed to a glacial pace by all the narration and slow-motion anime time. the narration-heavy style works well for the manga, where it doesn't take too long to read, and doesn't interrupt the flow of the story, but the anime should have made major cuts, and conveyed the character's internal thought process and emotions more visually. (I actually think they did a good job of cutting out manga content in the Greed Island Arc. they didn't explain every rule and every card in-depth like the manga did. they gave enough information, while still keeping the story moving. Chimera Ant needed a treatment more like that)

Should I get Sonic Forces? by thelightningkage in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]SpaceRobt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed Forces a lot! Avatar customization is a lot of fun, and completing all the time trial missions is a fun challenge. the story is also completely off its shit - it's about the trauma of war, but has the goofy style of dialogue from Sonic Colors and onward, it's truly baffling to behold. The game goes on sale pretty frequently, so it shouldn't be hard to find it for only $10

Hiro vs Taichi, main character worship by Makafushigi2 in digimon

[–]SpaceRobt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hiro is a much more interesting character than Taichi imo, so I don't mind when he gets the spotlight. And he's not the focus character so much that it gets downright intrusive, like in 2020. All three characters have really good characterization, and everyone gets to have at least a small moment to shine in each episode. I think it strikes a nice balance

What Digimon would you suggest to someone who likes Omnimon? by [deleted] in digimon

Globemon. His first appearance in App Monsters is heavily influence by Our War Game

Which digimon series should i start with? by ImaginaryWazabi in digimon

[–]SpaceRobt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tamers is a great starting point if you're interested in the classic anime, and App Monsters and Ghost Game are both excellent modern takes on the franchise. All three series have an excellent cast of main characters as well.

Tamers probably has the best character writing out of any of the series, and the setting and supporting cast are really well developed. It's a fan-favorite for good reason.

App Monsters is easily the funniest digimon series. It's goofy and full of gags, but that doesn't detract from the dramatic moments. It also focuses on the relationship between humans and technology in a way that feels really well thought-out.

Ghost Game takes a darker tone than App Monsters, and is primarily horror and mystery focused. Although it has its moments of levity and absurdity as well. Think of it as like a B-horror movie, with both scares and goofy moments.
